Cook: I Will Be Like Demolition Man Over the Next Six Weeks
Friday, 16th Apr 2021 09:54

Town boss Paul Cook says he’ll be like Demolition Man over the next six weeks with the changes that are coming to Ipswich Town.

The Blues manager held little back at his morning press conference ahead of tomorrow’s game at Charlton Athletic.

Cook dismissed a rumour that on-loan Tottenham striker Troy Parrott had been sent back to the Premier League club and told reporters to expect more gossip along those lines in the weeks to come as he makes what will be very extensive changes to his squad.

“There’s no truth in that rumour,” he said. “What you guys will now get is a million rumours because, as you know, I will be like Demolition Man over the next six weeks. You will hear rumours on every player, every bust-up, everything that goes wrong.

“This is going to be a very unhappy club over the next two or three weeks because the changes are coming. When there are announcements on players, whether it be Troy Parrott, Luke Chambers, James Norwood, Kayden Jackson, the club will make announcements.

“One of the things we can’t stop today is social media, Twitter, all the outlets will spread rumours that unfortunately until we substantiate them won’t be true.

“But that’s what happens at big football clubs and at the minute I want to be very respectful and careful to every player at our club.

“These lads have all got families, all these lads have worked hard in their career to get to Ipswich Town and we must do things with a bit of class now. A little bit of class, irrespective of whether it’s Player A, Player B and all the way to Z. There’s a proper way to deal with stuff at football clubs.

“Me, as a manager of the club, it’s in-house, it’s done properly and our fans then know what we’re doing is exactly what they want for this football club.”

He added: “Our players are very, very aware of my feelings. If the whole squad didn’t want to come back from Wimbledon the other night, it wouldn’t have bothered me. I’d have got on with the season.

“It's where I’m at, I don’t really think I [need to say any more]. Obviously from you guys, I accept all the different stuff, all the players have agents and all the above. I couldn’t care less any more.”

Given that, might some of the younger players who are yet to feature play a part in the weeks to come? “If the 18 from Wimbledon don’t turn up, you’ll have to see more, won’t you? I think the new 18 would get more support than the other 18 from our supporters.

“All I’d say to our supporters is ‘stay with us for the rest of the season please’. There will be more pain. There has to be more pain, but for that pain to go the sunshine will start coming through this summer at our club.”

Cook is a passionate man with a reputation for getting teams promoted. He arrived at the club and has given this squad the opportunity to showcase their talents or lack of. He is making it clear that he's not happy with what he's seen and that he intends to make sweeping changes. Unfortunately for several seasons this has been evident to so many but no manager to date has had the bottle to wield the Axe. This is exciting for me as a fan because I want to see proper football back at PR and a competitive team of talented hungry players proud to wear this fantastic shirt.

Music to my ears, a fantastic Frank and honest assessment of where we are as a club.
At long last it looks like we are finally going to see the back of players like Chambers and Sears, who quite frankly should of been released years ago.
Great news

IN COOK WE TRUST

I hope PC and the club will be respectful of the players, as he asserts in his statement. All came to Ipswich with the best intentions. Let those who are not part of the club's future depart on good terms and with our best wishes.

Good...demolish away... and I don't get this love affair people on here have with Bishop saying if he's injury free and has a run in the team he will be brilliant...well he's been injury free and had a run in the team and he's been sh#te along with dozzell. Get rid of both. We need men not boys.

Ultimately the best managers are father figures to their players, but that doesn't mean they don't kick them out! SBR, bless his soul, would be well pleased with this statement of intent. Now, let's see what we're left with...

Let not let emotion and sentiment come into this equation - pretty sure PC won't !
It's been all too plain that too many in the squad lack character, technique and concentration ,let alone application : they've plateaued at far too low a level and either haven't been driven ,or haven't been bothered to drive themselves to higher and better levels of ALL round performance .
The sloppiness has been too evident: it's been tolerated for too long and most of those amongst the supporters who've played sport themselves to any recognisable level will have recognised the apparent laziness in so much we've seen in ITFC shirts !
Pride in performance , in appearance and professional dedication must be brought to the fore !
Talent is not enough : footballing intelligence , a willingness to learn coupled to unerring consistency have to be through a thoroughly grounded education – there's a long curve ahead for some in thus Club – and for others ,well they won't even be invited onto the roadway ( and rightly !) .
Plainly PC is fed up , near disgusted with what he's witnessed and now determined to right the wrong .He will however do everything with integrity and honesty in the upright manner which characterises the man .
Bring it on !

Have to say though - I don't think he'd be able to do this if the owner was the same. Hurst tried and failed, Lambert never really tried for one reason or another and for this to happen manager has to have full support from the ownership. You think ME would ever replace 15 players in a single season?

Whilst I like this chappy we must all beware that we don't burn down the house in order to get rid of a wasps nest!

Don't see the point of playing loanees from here on in, it that we have that much anyway. Should play the players he wants to keep wherever possible, in the system he wants to play, and just fill in any gaps with the youngsters. At least we might get some points, and would help him to firm up on positions that need filling.

Tractorlad1. Presuming ur talking about Norwood? No, hes not a bad egg. Just doesnt let people slag him off on twitter, and say nothing. Maybe he shouldnt react, but then fans shouldn't be using social media in that way in the 1st place.. Pretty sure none of those slagging him off, would do so to his face. Hes actually one of the only ones we should keep, bcse given the right service, he'll score goals. Why people are assuming bcse cook named him that hes one of those going I realky dobt know. He said 3 names, could gave named anyone. In fact, I'd say it's more likely those hes named wont be leaving. And as Norwood still under contract some1 would have to bid for him if he was to go anywhere.

atty if he played the players he wants to keep that would only leave six.

Linkboy13. Dozzell wont be going unless some1 bids for him. Hes signed a new contract up till 2024. Yes, hes been poor but its neither his, or bishops fault, that theyve been played as holding midfielders. It's not their position. Need to play further forward where they can show their ability.

Love the way some are assuming that the 3 players he named in this interview are going to be leaving. That's not what he was saying. Just used 3 names from the squad to make the point that it doesnt matter who the player is. Have to remember for a start, that Norwood us not out of contract this year, so unless we get a bid, he wont be going anywhere.

He's saying all the right things and the action of dead wooding has started BUT I think us as supporters might be expecting a bit much though if we think we're good candidates to go up next season, sounds like 80% or so of the regular starters might not be here come August and that's a lot of managing to do getting the right recruitments, the bonding and getting a system in place the players are at ease with.

Saying this we certainly needed that extra impetus of oxygen the club so badly needed with the club on life support for a number of years, we now have some hope for the future.
