Cook: That Tells Me You Don’t Care About the Result
Friday, 23rd Apr 2021 11:39

Town manager Paul Cook says the mood in the Portman Road dressing room after the 1-0 home victory over Plymouth was no different to the one following the 2-0 loss at Fleetwood, which he says indicates that players “don’t care about the result”.

Cook was asked whether, with the season effectively over from a competitive perspective, he might introduce youngsters over the final four games, as has been discussed by fans since Tuesday’s loss at Northampton.

However, the Blues boss believes it’s currently not the right environment to bring them into and feels they may have got their chance for the wrong reasons at times.

“I don’t think so, that’s the truth,” he said. “One of the things, and I don’t mind saying, I think the young lads have been elevated here too quickly. The reason that they’ve been elevated too quickly is because the first team’s not very good. That’s the truth. You can read into that what you want.

“To play for Ipswich Town first team, it’s an honour, it’s a privilege. And probably young lads now have been stepped up, in my opinion, too quickly.

“Ipswich Town should have young kids breaking into the team. Our academy is now in the quarter-finals of the FA Youth Cup. Ipswich Town’s produced academy players for years and years.

“But blending them in at the right time is the right thing to do. Blending them in at the wrong time is a twofold problem. One, it’s like you’re trying to the fans that it’s right and, two, you might be telling the players they’re ahead of their pathway.

“And it’s something that I feel. I said to you a couple of a weeks ago, we’re in pain at the minute. Enjoy the pain. I have to stand there, I enjoy it. That pain’s what’s drives me on.

“So to say that the younger kids will get a chance, I wouldn’t say they will, but I wouldn’t really rule out that one or two of them won’t as well, by the way. Are you with me?

“At the minute, my sole focus is on winning tomorrow. A winning feeling is something that I feel this club lacks, whatever it is.

“The mood in the dressing room after beating Plymouth was exactly the same atmosphere as it was after losing 2-0 at Fleetwood.

“And I spoke to the players about it - that tells me you don’t care about the result. I know what happens to me when I lose games - I don’t sleep for two nights and I stare at the ceiling and I watch the games back.

“I don’t enjoy the losing because when we win, I only don’t sleep for one night and watch the games back a little bit. The reality is winning’s a lot better than losing, isn’t it?

Is that a mentality which has been instilled over a couple of seasons? “We don’t have to go there, it can also be in recruitment, can’t it? Introduce players who don’t like getting beat.”

Asked whether he’s already identified players like that that you’ll bring in in the summer, Cook smiled, nodded his head and said: “No!”

"Many of the players know they won't be here next year and are not going to do anything that might get them injured and therefore unable to get a deal elsewhere in the summer !"

Then why would anyone want to buy these pansies? No one is going to offer them a deal elsewhere based on their performances over the past 3 years let alone the last few weeks!!

Clear out big gobs over paid mates who think they run the club while in effect with their continued point costing performances started our sad decline, re the comments about the players should be putting themselves in the shop window(i totally agree) but why would they when they are set up for life by being abject failures, so called pro's MY REAR END!!

so what are you going to do then Paul, play them again , to embarrass you and the supporters again .Or are you strong enough to f##kj them all off and play the youngsters with no pressure on them, just an opportunity to show what they CAN do.I wouldnt P on the first team if they were on fire.

PC knows and has stated the players dont care , NOW is time for PC to show us what PC is made of, will he just let this shower continue to humiliate him or will he stand up and turn the tables on them . My gut feeling is PC isnt strong enough ,and he will put himself in a difficult position re his own job .

Wellens, who is with the Blues from Leicester until November 10th, said: “A new manager needs to come in and put a rocket under their backsides because there are not enough people who show they care about losing or even their own careers.

Are these same people still here?

Looks like it has been going on for years, oh yeah it has that is why we are where we are now. Spring clean required and not a moment to soon.

What is needed is for the worst performers and bad eggs in the nest and who are going to be released to be shown the door now. It should get a few other players thinking that this manager means business. If the man on the street underperforms he gets the sack. Sorry but these type of players sometimes need shaking up publicly and be thankful how well they actually get looked after with a nice income to suit. Come on you players you owe it to the owners, managers, coaches, sponsors and the public who pay towards the wages and actually support you whilst your not performing to give your all for the remainder of the season. Those who support you deserve a positive finale from you.

Kingfisher49 - I actually couldn't give a flying f*** about any of our players any more. They don't give a sh*te - never have. They only turn up for their wages. The most unprofessional bunch of losers in the clubs history!!

Surely a half decent captain with any integrity would have been in telling the new manager what was going on inside the squad unless he of course was one of the major problems. This has to be a clear out of attitudes as well as lack of talent.

The players don't care and it's now been confirmed from the inside. So with all this stuff going on where's the bleeding Captain, I'll tell you, right in the thick of it making himself indispensable to make up for his footballing shortcomings. Tell you something else, better get them kids out off his annex, don't want the next generation turning out like this shower, but that's ok! cause they'll be great clubman. You couldn't make it up lol

RobsonWark: Butcher totally smashed to pieces the dressing room door at carrot road after we'd lost to them in a cup match . He later apologised to them ( I wouldn't have ), and offered to pay for a new door .

ArnieM - Yep you wouldn't get that from this bunch of LOSERS that we have now. They would come of the pitch laughing and smiling after losing. Get rid of the whole lot of them - they have had Chambers as a captain for 9 years or so that has bred this philosophy into them while making out he is a real clubman and can't be dropped as he gives lodgings to our academy players.

What i've always asked after several decades of watching town games either in the flesh or as now unfortunately, otherwise, is that a player pulling on the blue shirt gives 100% every time he represents the club, it's supporters and town. All players have an ability ceiling above which they cannot go, whether it's Messi or a Sunday league player. If they're not good enough for the team they're playing for, that's the fault of recruitment.

Today should be the last day at the club for lot of these lazy ignorant losers and first out the door should be the worst captain in the history of football.
