Ed Sheeran New Town Sponsor
Thursday, 6th May 2021 11:30

Framlingham-based pop star Ed Sheeran has been revealed as Town’s new shirt sponsor for the 2021/22 campaign.

Sheeran, a regular visitor to Portman Road in recent seasons until the pandemic hit, will sponsor both the senior Town men’s and women’s teams for an undisclosed figure described as a “significant investment”.

Previously, in 2019, Town shirts with Sheeran’s Divide logo were on sale during his series of Chantry Park concerts.

"Sheeran, 30, told the club site: “The football club is a big part of the local community and this is my way of showing my support."

“I have always enjoyed my trips to Portman Road and I’m looking forward to going back there as soon as supporters are allowed into stadiums again."

“With the new owners from the US coming in, there are sure to be exciting times ahead for Ipswich fans, including myself. Hopefully we can stop being sloightly on the huh!”"

Regarding the meaning of the logo which will appear on the shirts rather than his name, perhaps relating to a greatest hits tour, Sheeran said: “All will be revealed in time.”

"Town’s director of sales, Rosie Richardson, added: “We are obviously thrilled that Ed has agreed to become our shirt sponsor next season.

"“I have worked with Ed and his management team on various initiatives over the years and welcomed Ed and his guests to Portman Road for many games. He has shown his support for his hometown in lots of ways and this is another example of that. " “We look forward to seeing Ed - and every other supporter - back at Portman Road next season.” "

Town are yet to reveal the designs for their 2021/22 kits but pre-orders for the new home shirt are expected to start from early June.

Brilliant. Reminiscent of when Fat Boy Slim sponsored Brighton's shirt, was part of their revival.

Well done Ed. A global superstar and an ITFC fan, what more can you want. Like some on here I'm not into his music as such, prefer ELO, but that's an age thing, but it's great that someone of his elk wants to play a part of our rise from the ashes. More power to him.

Having become habituated to disaster and misery over the past 12 years or so I am becoming worried.
The number of positive things happening at Town seems too good to be true, the sense of things finally coming together, with genuine optimism and excitement for next season , lead me to assume I am either dreaming, am in a medically induced coma or have been spiked.

Not a fan of his music but admire the bloke for his involvement in the local community so it's a massive thumbs up from me. Im surprised he hasn't done a concert at Portman road it would be huge and would probably fill the ground three times over.

Anyone who thinks this is a bad idea needs their head examining - Ed Sheeran gets pictured in the papers if he leaves his house to go shopping, he is a massive world famous name and to have him associated with the club will bring SO much publicity, sponsorship ETC - pictures of him celebrating a Town goal made the national papers once - Him putting money into the club and using his fame ETC is massive. In the Evans days people were desperate for Ed to get involved and now he is .....

My nieces are from Stoke and have no interest in football at all but they both have Town shirts from Eds Chantry park concerts .....

I can love his music for this! Excellent bloke! I try to be cautious after the Evans experience, particularly the early days. But I can't help but find myself caught up in a wave of optimism now. Please please don't make it another false dawn. Even just getting back to being a competitive Championship side would make me delirious! COYB.

Curtains.

You haven't actually answerd the original question, what's not to like about this?

It will raise the club's profile significantly, maybe bring in some US fanboys/girls who currently don't follow a club and maybe help sell a few more shirts so what's not to like?

If your not a fan of ES fair dos. Personally I'm not big on his musical output but local boy done good, had a massive fan base of his own. Win win for me.

So enlighten us, what's the issue? I know you are now 'won over' and that but humour us

Concert at Portman Road with preference for supporters, and write a song to replace singing the blues! Good on you Ed, I really love the idea of having a local connection. The whole point of football is community and local pride!
