Ed Sheeran New Town Sponsor
Thursday, 6th May 2021 11:30

Framlingham-based pop star Ed Sheeran has been revealed as Town’s new shirt sponsor for the 2021/22 campaign.

Sheeran, a regular visitor to Portman Road in recent seasons until the pandemic hit, will sponsor both the senior Town men’s and women’s teams for an undisclosed figure described as a “significant investment”.

Previously, in 2019, Town shirts with Sheeran’s Divide logo were on sale during his series of Chantry Park concerts.

"Sheeran, 30, told the club site: “The football club is a big part of the local community and this is my way of showing my support."

“I have always enjoyed my trips to Portman Road and I’m looking forward to going back there as soon as supporters are allowed into stadiums again."

“With the new owners from the US coming in, there are sure to be exciting times ahead for Ipswich fans, including myself. Hopefully we can stop being sloightly on the huh!”"

Regarding the meaning of the logo which will appear on the shirts rather than his name, perhaps relating to a greatest hits tour, Sheeran said: “All will be revealed in time.”

"Town’s director of sales, Rosie Richardson, added: “We are obviously thrilled that Ed has agreed to become our shirt sponsor next season.

"“I have worked with Ed and his management team on various initiatives over the years and welcomed Ed and his guests to Portman Road for many games. He has shown his support for his hometown in lots of ways and this is another example of that. " “We look forward to seeing Ed - and every other supporter - back at Portman Road next season.” "

Town are yet to reveal the designs for their 2021/22 kits but pre-orders for the new home shirt are expected to start from early June.

Even if I didn't like his music I'd much rather have a boyhood fan sponsor us than be the next club in the 32Red EFL empire.

The shirts are going to sell like mad.

Ed Sheeran has sold 26 million albums and 100 miilion singles worldwide yet most posters here have commented that they are not particularly a fan of his music.

It's little things like this that tickles me sometimes.

There must be someone out there that like him! I'm certainly a fan now.

Great guy, fantastic that he has stepped up and is getting involved with the club now. Can only be good for the region and the team. long may it continue.

If they design this shirt right, it may sell millions. Just one thing: get the shade of blue right–don't mess with that :-)

One of the biggest pop stars on the planet and an avid Town supporter. It's great to have him want to sponsor his local team. The logo doesn't bother me one jot what it looks like or means. The main thing thing is that he is prepared to put his own money into our club.Well done Ed and thank you.

Like!

@reuserscurtains just to update you we've been relegated a couple of times over the years, narrowly avoided liquidation and currently sit in the bottom half of the football pyramid where we're about to chuck out almost our entire playing staff and start again. Suffice to say Emirates were not interested in a sponsorship deal at this time...

Fantastic! His music is a bit too soft for me, but he is such a professional and seems very down to earth. Brilliant news.

I'm at a loss as to how anyone can find a negative with this!? He's giving a substantial amount to help the club he supports and the women's team because he's a fan?? Yes he's marketing as well but the marketing's better for us as I'm pretty sure he has a much larger fan base than Ipswich town does. He's sold 150 million albums that's not including downloads etc
It's literally moaning for the sake of moaning or they're just trolling either way just got support the buddies if you can't see this as a win win for the club.

What's the record for most downvoted comment on TWTD of all time? That first comment has to be a contender!

Oh yeah and for the plans moaning about this one he has 40 million followers on Instagram all of which are now seeing his football club he loves and supports that's better exposure for us than him!

I think it's great that hes making this investment, but frankly, people thought the "magical vegas" logo looked crass. This looks even worse. Just a number of mathematical signs with the word tour underneath? Really? Plus surely a shirt sponsorship is intended to promote the name/ company who are paying for it? Cant see anyone other than our own fans having a clue what it's all about. Why not just have his name on the shirt? As I say, great that hes doing this, but the logo looks awful.

Chelsea may be in the Champions League Final but we have Ed Sheehan !!!! I sit just below his box and when he attends he comes with his local mates. This is the sort of sponsor any club would die for. Being local matters in this world of celebrity culture.

blues1: that's not going to be the new shirt logo. that was Ed 's tour logo 2 years ago.

I don't get the negativity with some of these posts. What's not to like…a local lad with a few bob sponsoring his local team…

Great news for the club , but honestly that logo is diabolical, looks like a message to aliens in another galaxy ? Surely surely surely this will be changed ,

Those rumours about Ed being interested in the club before Gamechanger took over might have been true...welcome this move, our answer to Delia and Nodge but with a bit more cred!
