Ed Sheeran New Town Sponsor
Thursday, 6th May 2021 11:30

Framlingham-based pop star Ed Sheeran has been revealed as Town’s new shirt sponsor for the 2021/22 campaign.

Sheeran, a regular visitor to Portman Road in recent seasons until the pandemic hit, will sponsor both the senior Town men’s and women’s teams for an undisclosed figure described as a “significant investment”.

Previously, in 2019, Town shirts with Sheeran’s Divide logo were on sale during his series of Chantry Park concerts.

"Sheeran, 30, told the club site: “The football club is a big part of the local community and this is my way of showing my support."

“I have always enjoyed my trips to Portman Road and I’m looking forward to going back there as soon as supporters are allowed into stadiums again."

“With the new owners from the US coming in, there are sure to be exciting times ahead for Ipswich fans, including myself. Hopefully we can stop being sloightly on the huh!”"

Regarding the meaning of the logo which will appear on the shirts rather than his name, perhaps relating to a greatest hits tour, Sheeran said: “All will be revealed in time.”

"Town’s director of sales, Rosie Richardson, added: “We are obviously thrilled that Ed has agreed to become our shirt sponsor next season.

"“I have worked with Ed and his management team on various initiatives over the years and welcomed Ed and his guests to Portman Road for many games. He has shown his support for his hometown in lots of ways and this is another example of that. " “We look forward to seeing Ed - and every other supporter - back at Portman Road next season.” "

Town are yet to reveal the designs for their 2021/22 kits but pre-orders for the new home shirt are expected to start from early June.

He is a nice guy with an unassuming character for a worldwide pop star. Tried living in LA and didn't like it. Town fan. Giving something substantial back. Great for the club. Anyone who does not approve of this really should think again(if possible).

This is a very interesting development and a sign of the times.
I am very thankful we are not being sponsored by yet another betting company, as I will never buy a shirt with any sponsor of that nature.
Thanks Ed, really appreciate it.
All you have to do now is write something that can actually be considered music haha!

This is brilliant publicity for the club, and I'm sure a sincere effort on the part of Ed Sheeran to be part of the ITFC community. I'm impressed!

The correct infrastructure seems to be building but please get the team sorted with the best players available to get Portman Road rocking again. No better place to be on a Saturday afternoon when this happens.

We've even made the BBC sports pages - usually reserved for boring details about Man City, Chelsea, et al.

This is fantastic news. Ed's sponsorship is getting more news coverage than the recent takeover, which shows the high profile this bloke has got in the media. Win win for all concerned. Well done Ed, hope this association continues beyond 1 year and would love to see some gigs announced at PR to top it off.

Congrats reuserscurtains, I think this is the most down-voted comment I've ever seen on this site. -185 and counting.

Sorry, I didn't vote, -186 and counting.

Everything coming into place off the pitch.

Down to you Mr Cook to sort out what's on it, which I'm sure you will.

And seeing as I'm in a good mood, I'll give you an up vote Reuserscurtains 😁

Stop being horrible you lot 😂

Hi all, sorry I've been working and haven't caught up with the outrage I caused. Very happy to potentially have the most down-voted comment in TWTD history.
To explain, this club has depressed the life out of me recently and part of me was just shocked not to see another 0-0 match report. I reacted based on the fact the recent ‘Divide' shirt was the most naff thing I've seen in a While. The actual print which is going on the shirt does look a bit ‘wet lettuce', let's be fair . Since then, I've seen Ed's Instagram post and the publicity it's causing. Fair play, I thought Ed was plastic but maybe he isn't. Now let's open the Reuser curtains to brighter times. Up the town!

Would have preferred local band Extreme Noise Terror to be the sponsor, but beggars can't be choosers...
