Ed Sheeran New Town Sponsor
Thursday, 6th May 2021 11:30

Framlingham-based pop star Ed Sheeran has been revealed as Town’s new shirt sponsor for the 2021/22 campaign.

Sheeran, a regular visitor to Portman Road in recent seasons until the pandemic hit, will sponsor both the senior Town men’s and women’s teams for an undisclosed figure described as a “significant investment”.

Previously, in 2019, Town shirts with Sheeran’s Divide logo were on sale during his series of Chantry Park concerts.

"Sheeran, 30, told the club site: “The football club is a big part of the local community and this is my way of showing my support."

“I have always enjoyed my trips to Portman Road and I’m looking forward to going back there as soon as supporters are allowed into stadiums again."

“With the new owners from the US coming in, there are sure to be exciting times ahead for Ipswich fans, including myself. Hopefully we can stop being sloightly on the huh!”"

Regarding the meaning of the logo which will appear on the shirts rather than his name, perhaps relating to a greatest hits tour, Sheeran said: “All will be revealed in time.”

"Town’s director of sales, Rosie Richardson, added: “We are obviously thrilled that Ed has agreed to become our shirt sponsor next season.

"“I have worked with Ed and his management team on various initiatives over the years and welcomed Ed and his guests to Portman Road for many games. He has shown his support for his hometown in lots of ways and this is another example of that. " “We look forward to seeing Ed - and every other supporter - back at Portman Road next season.” "

Town are yet to reveal the designs for their 2021/22 kits but pre-orders for the new home shirt are expected to start from early June.

This news really cheered me up, coming hot on the heels of the takeover, the start of the restructuring and the great cup run of our Youth Team.. For the first time in a long while I am feeling upbeat about ITFC. Long may it continue.
AND THIS ON THE ANNIVERSARY OF OUR FA CUP WIN!!!

I'm just pleased that we are not going to have marcus evans plastered all over the shirts and stadium anymore, and a sponsor who has put money in the club not for his own gain but out of love for his team.

Would I be wrong in assuming that US sales of shirts etc contribute to the itfc turnover and impact positively on FFP rules

Roo We've also had some poor seasons in the white shorts. But i have to agree i do prefer the white. I can remember i think it was the mid sixties when we played in white shorts and white socks which looked quite smart. I think the biggest issue is the away kit which is one of the poorest we've had. The white away kits have been good but the problem is they clash with a lot of the blue kits. I quite like the red kits we've had especially the red and black stripes we had years ago.

Happy being blue - what does a lettuce have to do with being ginger? Also Ed is from Framlimgham; home of the toff, hardly any true Suffolk.

i am guessing its a put down of some sort reuser,a lot of old farmer boys out that way old money and new money but my comment was a bit tongue in cheek so no offence intended, i always joke to my co-workers when they say they dont like him,i say is it because hes ginger :) my best friend has red hair its an old one liner from way back.

Hope the sales team at Portman Road has ordered plenty of shirts because this will probably be our best selling shirt ever with his millions of fans worldwide.

Minus 219 and counting.
Thats more votes then there is members of TWTD, by quite a lot I suspect.
Perhaps Ed fans are joining TWTD just to down vote.
Based on his Twit follow numbers Gav is going to be busy

Very happy with this. It's a great way for Ed to invest in the club, as an international pop star, his name is very good publicity for us and I'm so glad to see the end of a gambling sponsorship which I've never been happy with. Win, Win!

Bluesman - thank you, our fan base seem to be more upset on me calling our sponsor a wet lettuce than when we got relegated. Says it all!
