Contract Options Exercised On Jackson and Donacien
Monday, 10th May 2021 16:17

Town have taken up the one-year options on Kayden Jackson and Janoi Donacien’s contracts.

The duo are among the players whose contracts are up this summer but with the club having had an option to keep them for a further season.

TWTD speculated that the Blues might activate Jackson’s option in order to achieve a fee for the striker with AFC Bournemouth having shown interest last summer and Huddersfield in January. The Blues paid Accrington £1.6 million for his services in the summer of 2018.

Jackson appears unlikely to be in manager Paul Cook’s plans as he isn’t a good fit into the 4-2-3-1 system he prefers to utilise.

Donacien, who cost £750,000, also from Accrington in the summer of 2018, ended the season on loan at Fleetwood, the Blues having turned down a £50,000 offer from Plymouth in January.

Whether the right-back is in Cook’s plans or the option has been taken simply to try to secure a fee this summer remains to be seen.

Speaking about Donacien’s situation in January, general manager of football operations Lee O’Neill said: “We have an option on Janoi, with that he’s got 18 months left. [Former owner] Marcus [Evans] paid a lot of money for Janoi two summers ago and we felt that the offer that was on the table wasn’t appropriate.”

Cook has been meeting with the players today with the club set to confirm which other out-of-contract members of the squad will join skipper Luke Chambers and Cole Skuse in departing later this afternoon.

Mark my words, this clear out has been brutal, with many surprises to come out of the club in the next couple of days!

I am inclined to think there is a shrewd tactic behind these extensions, both these guys could be used as part exchanges for other players under contract, perhaps something like offer Donacien to Fleetwood in exchange for the lad who scored against yesterday, or offer Jackson to Bournemouth or Huddersfield in exchange for somebody in their squad who maybe bench warming and fit another position we wish to fill.

This is the right business decision on both players. In terms of abilities, I would not give up on either player particularly Jackson as he has never played in a settled side. He has ability so let's see what he can offer until Christmas or take a fee if Cook really feels he is not a good fit. Only he and the coaches can judge that.

It's business plain and simple. Why give Jackson away for free if we can get half a million for him? Anything we make, fair market value or not is better than free.

Not surprised by Jackson - we will almost certainly sell him. Odd regarding Donacian though. Can only assume the initial fee paid is the reason? Perhaps Cook rates him?

Yes Bert agree with you Jackson in his first season scored eleven goals each one resulting in wins and weighed in with six assists. I don't think the player himself is settled at the club and will probably be sold for half the price we paid for him. Donacian has proved at Fleetwood he's a good dependable full back and has quoted as saying he is very happy there. Why would he want to return to Ipswich to be back up to KVY. Don't know if Fleetwood would be tempted by a player plus cash deal for Burns who was very impressive yesterday these sort of deals are rare nowadays.

Taking up the contract option on KJ is fine, as long it's with a view to obtaining some financial return when he gets sold.

I've absolutely nothing against him as a human being but, as a footballer, he leaves me cold. If Bournemouth, Huddersfield or any other club want to pay a fee for his services then it would be a great bit of business.

Donacien, as others have said, could provide some useful cover across the backline but similarly, if another club shows interest with money to exchange, I wouldn't stand in his way.

To the lads who will be departing, I wish you all well and success in whatever new challenge lies ahead for you.

I know we all feel a bit deflated and spit feathers at you when we have had to witness the dire performances and terrible results of recent seasons but, most of us supporters, in the cold light of day, would like to thank you for your service to the cause and your loyalty to the club.

We're now being told who will be on their way out of Town but personally, I'm much more interested in who will be coming in... excited much? YES!!!!!

Can't wait to see who the management want to draft in and watch as the next chapter of the ITFC story starts to take shape.

What chance of a fee for Jackson ? - little if any, therefore just another surfer on the payroll as I see it.
Strange to see Wilson and Nydam released - lets hope there's a bit of quality and knowhow on the way in, otherwise much of a muchness once again beckons when you look at it in terms of positions and potential line ups ... !!!

£750,000 for Donacien, an average 3rd tier defender. You can't say Evans didn't back Paul Hurst!

You can have all the athletic attributes but if ya do not have the confidence, composure or quick thinking football brain to do something unique in a game then it is a big disadvantage to make an impact.
Maybe todays footballers have too much coaching that do not encourage freedom to express themselves or encourage magical moments of skill.
Shooting practice ( on target ) could be a start to try and kick start our goal tally. It has been exhausting watching our team trying to score goals in the last few seasons.

Oh great , so we're still stuck with Hurst's awful signings ( look where he has ended up - non league again) . Over 4 million pounds spent then , doubt if we will get 10% of that back . How ever was that allowed to happen in the first place ?

Seems weird. Donacien isn't good enough (even as backup), and Jackson doesn't fit into Cook's system.
