Options Taken on Bishop, Nsiala, Drinan and El Mizouni
Monday, 10th May 2021 18:35

Town have taken up the one-year options on Toto Nsiala, Aaron Drinan and Idris El Mizouni’s contracts in addition to Kayden Jackson and Janoi Donacien, while the Blues have confirmed that Teddy Bishop’s appearances have triggered a further season at the club.

All five were set to be out of contract at the end of the season but at meetings with manager Paul Cook today were told the club is exercising the one-year options on their deals.

As reported earlier, it appears Jackson and Donacien are being kept in order to secure a transfer fee.

Nsiala, who previously played for Cook at Accrington, was a regular fixture in the games immediately after the new boss took over but having suffered a knock has more recently been on the bench.

El Mizouni spent this season out on loan at Cambridge and then Grimsby, while Drinan made his first senior appearances and netted one goal during 2020/21. It's understood that Brentford have been keeping tabs on the Tunisian international.

Bishop made 28 league starts and eight sub appearances over the course of the season, enough to trigger another year with the Blues.

Town are still in discussions with Gwion Edwards, who is out of contract with no option on his deal, while no announcements have been made on Ben Morris, Bailey Clements, Levi Andoh, Bert White and Tommy Hughes, while Liam Gibbs is weighing-up the offer of a new contract.

This is the first day of a new era at ITFC.The dust has still not yet settled so in all fairness we should sit back be patient and wait to see what happens over the coming weeks.Players still on one year contracts could well be sold just to get a fee instead of walking away for free. Finally I would like to wish the players who have left the best of luck for there futures wherever they finish up.

Lot of strange comments on here. Bishop staying is obviously out of PC's hands given how the option for him to stay is clearly based on appearances. Jackson had championship interest last year so why would we release him for free when we could get some money. I'd have kept Wilson over nsiala but if we get rid of both are we really going to get 3 new cb's in that can play together straight away? I agree that drinan is useless but he'll be on next to no money and again means that we don't have to sign about 15 players in one window like we did under hurst (how did that go?)

Am personally convinced TWTD are right about Jackson and Donacien being retained to get a fee, expect some of the others retained to go a similar way or out on loan, Toto im actually plased about, not sure he will be in PCs starting XI but he can do a job at this level as a back up.

Is it me or is this supposed clear out from the demolition man just a load of old waffle? The likes of Chambers, Skuse, Sears would have packed up and moved on anyway in all probability regardless of how the season went. Huws & Nydam were no brainers as injury has curtailed their careers and they have never been able to show that they can perform to previous levels.

And how is Drinnan being kept on? He is hopeless and has no idea where the goal is. And keeping Hawkins & Jackson? Hopefully they're just back up for the new strikers that are hopefully coming in, Jackson hopefully being moved on ASAP.

Will give Mr Cook a chance and see where we are come mid October but have some doubts creeping in now that this clear out has been announced.

Like Drinan, I criticised Kieffer Moore when he was at Ipswich but look at him now.

Agree with Inghamspur above, but we must remember we are only seeing 25% of the picture at the moment, there will be loan and fee departures within the retained list for sure, and the big part of the jigsaw we can look forward to is the inevitable inflow of 4+ players minimum all of whom PC will be rating as significantly better than the current crop.
If we cast our minds back 6 months when injuries and suspension hurt us, our midfield was McGavin Gibbs and Lankester, with Jack the most experienced with about 6 starts.
If we look at the basis of the side around the Xi that started sunday plus a few..
Cornell
KVY
Woofy
Toto
Kenlock
Downes
Dozzell
Dobra
Edwards
Norwood
+1 from Bishop Hawkins etc
...and then add 4-5 names in we don't know about, it begins to shape up better. And I think we mostly all trust PC to get those players.
Time will tell but at this stage teh pruning is done, let him get that new blood in

Maybe time for a little perspective here...

Important to remember that, as far as the real end-of-season exodus and pre-season recruitment goes, we have witnessed just the opening volley.

Some of the contract options that have been taken up may have been a little bit of a surprise but, with a view to attracting fees for their services from elsewhere, could make economic sense.

Those that have been let go were nowhere near Cook's plans for next season, being out of contract or past their best, and it made sense to expunge their wages from the club's expenditure.

Those who will be drafted in we have yet to see but I have faith that whoever comes in, they will be better than those who have departed and fit into the ethos and style of play Cook wants to encourage, going forward.

I, like others, will reserve judgement until the first few weeks of the new season, when we will see a Paul Cook side take to the field, representing this great club of ours.

Onwards and very much, hopefully, upwards!

The only one in this lot I would have bothered with is Bish----let the rest go.

So this is the so called demolition man-----ha ha, like the rest the cheeky chappie talks a nice game but is full of it like them all.

And we still seem to be shopping in Poundland but I accept they are only rumours at this stage-----will we actually BUY anybody-----we will see.

All the striker experts on here were the same ones slating Kieffer Moore when he was here.

Look how that worked out. Give it a rest. If PC thinks they are worth keeping on then he knows them and sees them everyday in training.

You lot need to go outside and give your heads a wobble.

I don't understand! Let go Chambers and Wilson and offered Nsiala extension! Half of Chambers or Wilson is anytime better than 2 Nsiala! Bad choice!

Drinan is a League 2 striker (at best). Nsiala gives away a penalty or makes some kind of glaring error almost every game. These were the kind of wasters we needed to get rid of. So much for 'demolition man'.

Hopefully the Jackson & Donacien deals are there just to get a fee when we get shot of them.

As for Nsiala?!..the guy is a liability every time the ball comes near him..as for Drinan, well let's hope we can get Rhodes or Waghorn or both...you need a goalscorer in this league as proven over the last 2 years when we've fallen short.

Money where the mouth is time.
