Blues and Huddersfield Offer Rhodes Deal Claim
Tuesday, 11th May 2021 09:33

Town and Huddersfield are reported to have both offered a contract to their former striker Jordan Rhodes, who will be a free agent this summer with his terms at Sheffield Wednesday coming to an end.

Rhodes was linked with the Blues and Championship Terriers at the start of last month with the West Yorkshire side understood to be leading the chase.

Now Football Insider claims both clubs have offered the 31-year-old a three-year deal.

Rhodes scored seven times for the Owls during 2020/21 and played a role in two of their goals as they drew 3-3 in their final game of the season at Derby on Saturday which confirmed their relegation to League One.

The Scotland international has had a frustrating time at Hillsborough having joined them from Middlesbrough for £10 million in the summer of 2017 following a loan spell. Due to a lack of opportunities with Wednesday he spent 2018/19 on loan at Norwich City.

Former Kesgrave High School pupil Rhodes, who joined the Blues as a 15-year-old from Barnsley for £5,000 after his father Andy became keeper-coach at Portman Road, was controversially sold to Huddersfield by Roy Keane in the summer of 2009 having made only 10 sub appearances, scoring one goal.

After top-ups and 10 per cent of the sell-on when Rhodes moved from Huddersfield, with whom he had enjoyed a hugely successful spell, to Blackburn for £8 million in August 2012, the fee Town eventually received moved close to £1.5 million.

Manager Paul Cook has previously said adding goals is among his priorities during the summer as he rebuilds his squad.

I don't care about him playing for Norwich or any nonsense like that.

However this would be a bit uninspiring to me. Seems well past his best, which I guess we are as well, but would still rather Waghorn if I had to choose between the two.

I got the impression Rhodes was happy to see the back of us and happy to score against us after the circumstances of him leaving. Unlikely he'll come back if offers are equal. At Huddersfield - 124 appearances, 73 goals over 3 years. Here, 10 apps , 1 goal over 2 years. ITFC in L1, Hudd in Championship. I know which one I'd go for.

Not sure @biut this.Three years for a 31 year old, and wage demand would be high l guess. Rather go for a younger player, say 23-25 year old with a good goal scoring record, even if it meant a feed. After all our new Owners have confirmed they will invest, with players the priority.

This ‘judas' cr@p he was treated abysmally by Roy Keane and the club without even being given a chance to show his worth when most town fans could see he had talent. He's no Judas and in my opinion exactly the kind of fox in the box type striker we need at the club way better than most we have.

According to the numpties on here Waghorn is way past it. Starred for Derby on Saturday so he wont be coming here far too good for league one. Looks like we will have to make do with second best as usual.

REALITY !! - is Guys, that this is only the stamp of players we are likely to attract now - and even that won't be easy !!
Please tell me we should be looking to do EXACTLY what Peterboro' do - and that is not recruits has beens, like we've previously been notoriously known for.
Get a couple of decent Scouts into the Club and trawl the lower levels, Peterboro' prove year on year that there are gems out there to be had - and they are out there !!

A backward step - let's look for younger, hungry to provide themselves strikers from League 2 or lower.....

Doesn't take much to excite some ITFC fans - ever thought this is part blame for the level we find ourselves playing at ?
In the eyes of some, Rhodes would be seen as ‘world class' if he signed.
How deluded can some be ?? - but we have some, proof on here yet again.
Trawl the lower levels, there's good, hungry players out there that just need a bit of good, professional Coaching.
Good Coaching and Scouting has been a failing for seasons now at ITFC in my opinion - thus the bar set at where we find ourselves. And justified too.

Surely he will choose championship football but might choose town if they offer more money.
He will have a point to prove coming back, hope he can get back to his best if he does sign👍

I think he's falling out of love with Ipswich Town and he's earning huge wages so this won't be happening for sure.

Blue Blood agree with some of those mentioned. They would certainly be an upgrade. What about Oliver at Gillingham. Very impressive season in a pretty average team

A New Dawn - and people are already excited about ‘old boys' coming back.
WHAT ??
It could only happen here !!

We'll be going for Frank next ! - at this rate.

If he's got the hunger to bring us success then I'd be for it. What we need to move away from is the idea of Ipswich being a nice cosy club where not much is expected from you and you can see out your career before retiring. Having said that, this sounds a bit like a nothing story where an out-of-contract player is being linked with two of his former clubs.

Drew, that's what Hurst did and look how that turned out. We need to be signing players with a proven pedigree at this level at least. I'd be pleased with Waghorn, not sure about Rhodes though.

As usual Nobbynuts you interpret things to accord with your own wish to insult people. Being open minded is the exact opposite of small minded but let's also have big hearts as we enter what I hope is a progressive era at the club.

Bert...I think your find you called people small minded if you go back and read your rubbish....pathetic

What little pace he did have is now gone. Might work with 2 upfront but not in Cook's formation. Also he is a Norwich fan apparently.

It's a No from me. We need up and coming talent not past their best.

Imagine Rhodes & Waghorn upfront for Ipswich next season...

We can but dream...

We do need to look to future it's true but we also need to get promoted next season not in five years time. Waghorn would be a massive signing for us capable of playing up front on his own very strong physically.

A massive no to Rhodes, i havent a problem with players who play for Norwich but, i wont forgive him for jumping up and down in Norwich colours when asked by by the norwich supporters to jump if you hate Ipswich!

Next!!
