Monday, 17th May 2021 14:18

Town’s U23s Professional Development League Two play-off semi-final against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane this evening is being streamed live by the Blades (KO 7pm).

The young Blues, who are managed by Kieron Dyer and Terry Butcher, finished second in PDL2 South, while the South Yorkshiremen topped PDL2 North.

Town are set to field a young side involving many of those who played in the U18s two semi-finals over the course of the last week. The game can be watched here.

The winners will face Birmingham City, who finished second in PDL2 North, in the final, the Midlanders having beaten Bristol City, winners of PDL2 South, 2-1 after extra-time in their semi-final.

Would Ipswich be allowed to play the likes of Downes, Dozzell and Woolfenden in this match as they are all under 23? Or would they not do that anyway because the experience of playing in the playoffs is more important than the experience of playing a league up next year for the normal U23 squad?

Everything below the first team is about player development so parachuting first teamers in defeats the point.

TractorFrog. After being to they can leave I doubt ITFC want those 3 playing an important game like this.

Oh dear! Not going well. We look quite neat sometimes, but there isn't much penetration and there have been some awful mistakes. 0-4 down at half time says it all. Hope we can at least get a goal second half. COYB!

Shocking end to the half... have they caught first-team- it's? It was looking okay for a while...

We're getting a right hammering 4 nil down looking like the first team in disguise. Playing some nice football at times without looking threatening all very predictable. Our goalkeeper looks very nervous and shaky. Why do Ipswich teams look so lightweight seems to be a common theme in the club.
