QPR Leading Chase For Dozzell
Sunday, 6th Jun 2021 13:43

TWTD understands QPR are leading the chase for Blues midfielder Andre Dozzell.

Last month, Town boss Paul Cook told virtually everyone in the current squad that they can move on this summer, including Dozzell, 22, who only signed a new contract which runs to June 2024 in December.

TWTD revealed in February that QPR were also keeping tabs on the former England U20 international and the West Londoners look set to firm up that interest in the next few weeks.

Blackburn Rovers had an offer for Dozzell rejected by the Blues in January 2020 and, as previously reported, former Blues skipper and coach Tony Mowbray continued to monitor the former England U20 international during 2020/21.

His assistant Mark Venus’s name was on the scouts list for a Blues away game towards the end of the season.

As reported last month, Brentford, recently promoted to the Premier League for the first time, have also shown interest in Dozzell, who was a regular for Town in 2020/21 under both Cook and his predecessor Paul Lambert.

3 Goals in 93 Appearances for someone who has the supposed amount of ability he is claimed to have is a p1ss poor return..... in fact I'd argue Jonathan Douglas had a better record and he offered more defensively!!

I'd sell him but put a decent sell on clause in there just in case he ever does live up to his hype ... but he wont do it here sadly hes had more than enough time and opportunity

After years of sad shows from squad in all competitions, players must realise huge change is a must to have a go again

Sure Cook would keep him if he could

Like his Dad, who really failed to shine in a bang average squad 1986-90, then was brilliant in that great side of Lyall's time, I think Andre is similar. Let's give the lad the benefit, he could be a good fit when we go up for instance. It's a hell of a gamble imo, as replacing him at a higher level could cost millions.

Dozy Dozzell always looks unfit and tired and he is supposed to be a professional footballer who trains every day. He never runs into space and looks for the ball. He always pulls on opposition players shirts because he can't run back and tackle. He gets so many pointless yellow cards. He may get one good pass in 3 good games. SELL HIM PLEASE!!!

A move would probably do him the world of good. Get him out of his comfort zone and away from daddy.

I find it hard to believe that the England youth set up, premier league and championship clubs are all wrong about his potential. Agree that he can be a bit lightweight but has obvious technical ability and would hate to add him to the growing list of players we let go for £3m that are worth £20m in 3 years

AD has a languid, laconic style that some fans mistake for laziness. At his best he runs games (home to Fleetwood) but was played out of position most of last season - as others have rightly said, he is no defensive midfielder. At 22 he still has time to mature (and add 10lbs of muscle to his frame). I believe he would definitely be an asset in the Championship whereas the rough and tumble of the third tier doesn't suit his style. Many people on this site rate Brentford for their ability to pick assets from the transfer market. If they are interested in AD there is surely greater potential that Cook and his coaching team can develop.

It is a hard one, although I sometimes suspect that because young players have come up through the academy, and in Andre's case the club's connection with his father, we are more patient around consistent performance than we might be with 'outsiders'.
I think that a move, with a substantial sell-on clause, could be the spark he needs to really get going. Unfortunately he has been inconsistent when a regular starter and often gets carded for things that he should/would not do if the defensive side of his game was stronger. That said I guess we will have to wait and see what happens. Either way I wish him the best of luck.......

I have supported this club for 55 years and watched some exceptional talent come through our ranks, Beattie, Butcher, Dyer, Viljoen, Mills, Whymark, Woods to name a few.

In many cases these players were well supported and groomed playing alongside very good professionals in a solid well performing team.

In some cases it took time for the young players to establish themselves and at times initially some may have looked a little lightweight. Some I thought would struggle to make it went on to prove me radically wrong.

I am puzzled why many on here have to be so disparaging about some of our players.

Not just the younger players as well, Gareth McAuley to many on here was a donkey, not good enough for the second tier. He went on playing until he was 38, with loads of premiership and international appearances under his belt. There is an unpleasant section of our support who have to find a scapegoat to vent their frustrations.

To the ignorant the player who makes space and time for himself, a very rare quality may appear to be “lazy”.

Arnold Muhren wouldn't have lasted five minutes with many of our supporters today if they had witnessed the first couple of months or so of his baptism in the English league nor had he been part of a much less gifted team.

Whilst, I watch the U23's regularly before COVID when I can and often wax lyrically about some of the players, I do believe we are not brutal enough when players reach the age of 21 and haven't forced themselves at least onto the bench to keep them in hope that they will still develop into valuable assets. We need to breed a winning mentality throughout the club and not use U23's as just an experimental environmental to play “nice” football.

So we have to release younger players earlier to make room to give opportunities to the next batch of youngsters. Some may go on to do greater things but that will only be a testament to a good academy and development system. Players will not become real assets unless they are proving themselves in the first team.

Teddy Bishop and Andre Dozzell were introduced to first team football in their teens. They have shown they have the pedigree to play at a higher level.

Technically these two youngsters with a few exceptions are two of the best “footballers” I have seen come through our ranks.

Teddy Bishop scored 4 goals this season, two more than Cole Skuse scored over 8+ seasons!!!

I personally felt Andre and Teddy were real positives this last season in terms of their development with the number of games they managed albeit their influence on these games fell short of what was required to get us out of this league.

And it is still true that we do not score enough goals from midfield.

Do both these young men fit into Paul Cooks system? Perhaps not, but I will leave it up to him and Mark Ashton to do what they think is right for the football club.

If they move on to pastures new I will continue to follow their careers with interest not because the “one of our own” syndrome but because they are blessed with skills we rarely see and some of their passages of play I find a delight to watch.

Andre may not have scored many goals but his goal against Leeds in the relegation season and his equaliser in the cup home tie against Lincoln will stick in my memory for a long time because of the quality. That's why I enjoy watching football.

Oh... if Andre was to go to Norwich I wouldn't hold it against him either if only to irritate the derogatory posters.

At the end of the day Andre has more deficiencies than attributes...I watched him a fair bit last season on iFollow and wasn't overly impressed.

This might be just the type of player who leaves and does great elsewhere----he is young and still has loads of potentisal in the right set up.

I would want at least a mill for him.

pennblue: Look where Ming's is now and I didn't rate him at all, but on the whole I do agree with what you say. However I wont be sorry to see him go.

Didn't rate him!?! - LOL! Mings was very good when he was RB with us...just took him time to change to a central defensive position after that bad injury he had at Bournemouth to get going.

"Andre will do well elsewhere"..."he needs to move on". I don't understand how people can think both these things are true. He's 21 years old, if he hasn't set the world alight yet here, it's because few players do until they're nearer peak age. Not time to panic and jettison our good young players unless someone offers stupid money. Calm down. ITFC was built on patience, long-term plans, that's how we've always built great teams - by growing our own!
