Blues Target Millers Midfielder Crooks
Tuesday, 8th Jun 2021 13:24

Town are targeting Rotherham United midfielder Matt Crooks.

According to the EADT, the Blues are set to make a bid for the 27-year-old, who is moving into the final year of his contract with the Millers, and TWTD understands there is indeed Town interest in the Leeds-born schemer.

Crooks, who plays primarily as a defensive midfielder, was a schoolboy with Manchester United’s academy before moving on to Huddersfield with whom he made one senior appearance.

While with the Terriers he spent time on loan at FC Halifax, Radcliffe Borough and Accrington before joining Stanley on a permanent basis in 2016.

In July 2016 he joined Rangers in Scotland but six months later he departed for a loan spell at Scunthorpe having been unable to make an impression at Ibrox.

A switch to Northampton followed in the summer of 2017 before he moved on to Rotherham in January 2019 and was a member of the side which won promotion to the Championship the next season, scoring both goals - out of a campaign total of 11 - in the Millers’ 2-0 victory over the Blues at Portman Road.

In 2020/21, Crooks scored seven times as the South Yorkshiremen dropped back into League One.

In March it was reported that Rotherham had held preliminary talks with Crooks regarding a new deal after interest from Nottingham Forest last summer.

The Blues have already added West Burns and Lee Evans to their midfield ranks but are certain to make further signings in that area of the squad with most of the current players having been told they can move on this summer.

Monkey blue. I was suggesting that when we have played against him, at whatever level, he has always been the stand out opponent who has totally bossed the game, and I was always surprised that he wasnt a fixture for a club at the higher end of the championship at least, because he has always looked capable of the step up.

Tones, didn't we end up with Adrian Paz instead when we all thought batistuta was on the way 🤣🤣🤣🤣. Would love another little jem like taricco or sixto, that would do nicely 👍🏼

We definitely need some physicality in our midfield as our players have been very lightweight in recent seasons. He would be good addition in my opinion but before you say it Monkey, I'm not professing to be an expert unlike you obviously think you are

If it's doable then DO IT! I was screaming for this to happen before he went to Rotherham then he inevitably turned us over twice last season so I'd really be over the moon with this one!

I can't remember the last time I've been this excited about the transfer window opening!

I saw the game at PR near the beginning of last season.I had come up from London and stayed at the Penta and had to contend with far too may happy Millers after. It was the game that changed the commonly held idea that promotion would be a doddle for us - it was a key game and most games of the 8 or so I've seen us lose on iFollow this season follow the same pattern, and some of our wins too! Rotherham didn't retreat. They were much bigger, stronger and more direct and Crooks was at the heart of that. He probably had one of his best games but if we can blend that with some real goal scorers we will get there. Dominate the b----rs and get the ball in the net.

Gemini , to pay prem prices we need to be in prem or at very least topping Championship, we need to get out of league 1. really cant understand how you think we could even attract prem players let alone pay the price or wages .

I don't pretend to know much about too many of these targets (as my knowledge of League One football isn't great as I don't watch much of it). However, the calibre of players we're being linked with seems much better than the players we would have been after if Evans was still the main man! Our new owners seem far more clued up when it comes to how modern football works.

It's a yes from me. Very good player in a position we need quality. If it happened, I would be a very happy middle aged slap head.

If I can remember, I think he scored at PR against us in the championship whilst with Rotherham.

Just watched his two goals against us, my god we looked poor. Always thought midfield was the weakest part of our team and it seems to be a top priority for Cook. Always been impressed with this guys around game would be a massive signing.

It would appear that Paul Cook only wants players who he thinks can do a job here but more importantly feels has the desire and passion to want to be part of it......Im all for that

Snap him up before anybody else grabs him & get his team mate Clark Robertson as well. Would be two good signings.

LinkBoy13…. So he scored because we were poor? Was this when Hurst brought in a load of league one/two signings? Everyone looked good against us. He was brilliant for relegated Rotherham last year or was it he was a class above and everyone else let him down? You do talk some rubbish. He might be ok, but won't be buying champagne, party poppers and putting a bet on him to be in the team of the year just yet. I might actually wait and see.
