Released Keeper Wright Joins Fleetwood
Tuesday, 8th Jun 2021 15:12

Released Blues keeper Harry Wright has joined fellow League One club Fleetwood Town on a two-year deal.

Wright, the son of Town legend Richard, was released at the end of the season without having made a senior appearance while at Portman Road.

The 22-year-old, who will formally join the Cod Army on July 1st, spent much of last season on loan in Sweden with Gothenburg-base club GAIS.

I wonder if this will come back to bite us. Is it just me or do we seem to hold onto young players to the bitter end when they clearly are nowhere near the first team. Still no word on ClemENTS, aNDOH, ETC HAVE THEY BEEN RELEASED TOO ?

We release far more young players that never go on to play at a higher level than we do release players that come back to bite us. Fair play to the lad for getting a contract elsewhere. I imagine dads contacts up north came in handy.

Good luck, Harry. And, yes, it's inevitable that one of the players we release will repond by redoubling his efforts and go on to be a top player. That's life.

If I remember correctly Harry is not only the son of Richard, but also the grandson of former Town fullback Geoff Hammond.

"Price or supple wasn't it ? "

yep, over 15 years ago - a damning indictment of our youth set up, as there hasn't really been anyone near even a few games

Going back a bit: how about Laurie Sivell? Born in Lowestoft and joined as an apprentice in 1969. 141 league appearances. Probably the shortest goalkeeper in the old first division.
