Edwards Linked With Wigan Move
Thursday, 10th Jun 2021 10:45

Blues winger Gwion Edwards is reportedly set to join Wigan Athletic on a free transfer.

The 28-year-old Welshman was out of contract at the end of 2020/21 with Town having taken a one-year option on his deal the previous summer.

Edwards, who joined Town from Peterborough in the summer of 2018 for £700,000, was offered new terms last month, while the MK Dons, Preston and Sunderland had previously been credited with interest in the former Swansea trainee.

Now, the EADT is reporting that Edwards is set to leave the Blues with Wigan his expected destination.

Edwards, one of Paul Hurst’s Town recruits, made 82 starts and 27 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring 14 times.

At times he was a player who could spark a game to life but too often he faded. Pity as he has potential. Not a good crosser of a ball and balls in the box means goals.

I don't blame him for looking elsewhere. When your boss repeatedly tells all the staff they are not good enough, even if you were seen as one of the supposedly wanted ones it could be unsettling.

I'm sure as I've been told even the players that want to stay have been alarmed at the abuse and treatment of people who aren't just team mates, the reality is they are also their friends. I'm 50/50 on Gwion leaving but let's not kid ourselves…. People have been getting excited about players on here with worse records than his.

Probably the best move for both parties.

Frustrating player for us. Always thought that with better quality around him, consistency would have been better. I would have tried to keep him for another year, but I am sure PC is better positioned than me to judge. Wish him all the best.

Liked him but have a feeling I will like the players coming in to the club more

I heard he was only going to Wigan to collect that free kick he skyed against Wimbledon in April.....
Didnt ever rate Edwards, very rare flashes of talent, but cant have 2 good games out of 46 games in a league season if we want to progress!

Ossie Ardiles style flick on Blackburn debut promised so much but sadly proved the high-water mark in an otherwise forgettable Portman Road career.

Hwyl fawr Gwion.

One of Hursts better efforts, but inconsistent, started the season well got an injury then sadly along with the rest, very average for the remainder of the season

more good news keeps coming.... lets have players who want to be here who have the desire to stay fit and perform consistently ,is that too much to ask in the modern game? all the billy big balls who think they are too good for us can leave in my opinion, so a few more to go as of yet.

Done an ok job compared to some at the club. That reminds me are QPR still chasing Dozy didn't realise he was that quick. Wouldn't be surprised if he's still at the club next season.
