Cornell Leaves By Mutual Consent
Friday, 11th Jun 2021 16:18

Keeper David Cornell has left the club with his contract having been terminated by mutial consent.

A statement on the club site reads: “The keeper was informed that opportunities at Portman Road next season would likely have been limited, and as such he has decided to pursue other options.”

The 30-year-old, who had another year remaining on his contract, joined the Blues on a free transfer last summer after leaving Northampton. The Welshman went on to make 10 League One starts as well as five games in cups.

We understand Town’s other senior keeper Tomas Holy has also been told he can move on this summer with the Blues on the lookout for two new glovesmen.

Decent shot stopper (most keepers are) but not good enough with ball at feet. Holy's confident with the ball but ask any attending fan, he make you nervous. We need a ball playing keeper to fit into Cooks formation, simple.

If game v Lazio hasn't been put in bin. Could be waiting for us to make the Premier league. May be a while

Monkeyblue. Since you are so negative about everything thats happening at the club perhaps its time for you to move on as well. Best for both parties as all the vitriol this must be so bad for your health.

We've got friendlies starting soon. Are they going to be 5 a side games?

Hard to separate these two keepers i thought he might have kept one on as a number two. Vitally important we get this one right, along with a dominating figure at the centre of defence, which we haven't had for a long time. Important to be strong down the centre of the pitch.

Blues man what are you on about? We havent even officially started preseason training for another couple of weeks yet. Let alone playing friendlies.

Cat. I dont know what you've been watching re holy with the ball. Hes as bad with tbe ball as Cornell. Difference between the 2 is Cornell is better at saving shots.
And to all those saying Cornell is simply rubbish. Within hours of him leaving he has championship clubs chasing him. Clearly they see more in him than you do.

Let's just hope that all these changes work out for the best, and beneficial - certainly a demolition job for sure - and a few surprises.
Bearing in mind that many different players take time to bed in .... and perform as a team !!
Therefore, it looks like an achievement of ‘hitting the ground running' may not be able to be expected.
Although, my guess is - many will expect just that.... !!!

Not sure what some of you expect from a Keeper at this level ? - but reality is it's Division 3 !!!
Will be extremely fortunate to attract better than Cornell in my opinion - better Keepers will have their sights set higher, and will be snapped up at a higher level anyway - there are Clubs out there with some good active Scouts.
Something we have seemed to lack over recent years.

Blueboy1981. Agree with most of what uve put in those 2 posts. As u say, there will he fans who simply expect us to automatically beflyingvaway with the league, and if we arent after a couple of months, will be calling for Cooks head. It might be that we could be midtable come December. That doesnt mean wed be out of it tho. But some wont accept that. Simply think, new owners, new manager, new team and everything's rosy straight away. As mark Detmer and o'Leary have both said tho, it could take time, and we need to show dome patience. The only thing I'd question u over is the point about scouts. May well have been the case before the takeover but dont think it is now. Think the players weve already signed and are linked with signing suggest that's improved already. Sure theres still room to improve that side of it tho, which I'm sure will happen.
