Dozzell Deal Done
Tuesday, 15th Jun 2021 09:46

TWTD understands the deal which will make Blues midfielder Andre Dozzell a QPR player has been agreed.

Confirmation of the 22-year-old’s move to Loftus Road is likely to come at some point today for a fee of £1 million plus a sell-on.

TWTD revealed in February that the West Londoners were watching Dozzell and earlier this month that they were leading the chase and then close to completing his signing.

Dozzell, the son of Blues legend Jason, came through the academy at Town and went on to make 78 starts and 15 sub appearances, scoring three times, including on his debut as a 16-year-old at Sheffield Wednesday, emulating his father.

The former Copleston High School pupil was among the many players told he could leave the club this summer by manager Paul Cook.

As previously reported, we understand the contract Dozzell signed in December included a clause stipulating that if an offer came in at the agreed level, £1 million, the club had to accept it.

With the former England U20 cap's previous contract up this summer, the Blues weren't in a strong position when negotiating the deal.

Blackburn Rovers and Brentford also showed interest in signing Dozzell this summer.

Bert. Why would we hear from Cook right now? Theres nothing for him to say. Hes told the people that need to know who he wants in, who hes happy to sell and who he wants to keep. They are dealing with that. And they are doing any talking that needs to be done. Very few managers actually come pit and talk when theres no football happening. Unless they are specifically approached by some1 asking them questions. So not odd at all.

Grow our own. Keeping hold of our younger players for longer. Hes 27 and has done nothing for the last 3 years including the relegation year. It could well be that he does better at a higher level, with more time on the ball than he gets at this level. But nothing hes done suggests that will be the case. I wish him well and hope he achieves the success his undoubted talent deserves. But he needs more than just talent to succeed, and I'm not sure he has the right attitude to do so.

Grow our own. Sorry. Hes 22. Still not what I'd class as a youngster taking g into account how long hes been playing at 1st team level

Personally this sale is the litmus test for me of whether I think we are on the right track or not. Dozell is potentially a very talented player, but there are lots of things not right with his game. One of which is his positioning, knowing when to go and when to hold, not having the oomph to get into dangerous positions sometimes when he obviously can. we've seen him stride forward with the ball and take players on, it shouldn't always be about the killer pass. Am I'm afraid he's no Arnold Muhren to get off tackling duty. Who knows he might become the next Stan Bowles, and good luck to him in a different set up. But, he doesn't suit our new Manager, and Cook doesn't see how he can be trained to his more robust way of thinking. So this is good business and makes me feel very content with where we are right now.

Excuse the Freudian slip. Caught somewhere between Dozy and Dozzell. Sorry Andre.

I say, good luck to him and I wish him well!

He may not be a fit at our club going forward, but he'll always be one of ours, no matter what. He's a nice young lad who deserves a chance to progress. If that happens to be elsewhere, so be it.

I've sat in the stands with him and his dad a few years back, watching the game before he made his bow in the first team. He was a polite young lad in love with the game and relishing being a part of the club.

All the best Andre!

It's sad to see another of own grown leaving! And worst still is going up a Championship club! Not sure what's on Cook's mind! Don't tell me he is going to get a combi of Wigan/Portsmouth/all his former clubs?

So QPR have signed him to fatten him up and then sell on at a profit. They've a history of it. Makes you wonder why we can't do that really 🤔

This sell on clause if QPR get less than what we sold him for do we have to pay them.
