Blues Linked With Loan Move For Birmingham Striker
Sunday, 20th Jun 2021 09:31

Town are reportedly keen on recruiting Birmingham City striker Sam Cosgrove on loan.

According to The Sun on Sunday, Birmingham manager and former Blues midfielder Lee Bowyer will allow the 24-year-old to depart on loan this summer.

Town are said to be plotting an “ambitious” move for the 6ft 4in tall frontman, but may have to wait to see whether Championship clubs show interest.

Beverley-born Cosgrove joined Birmingham from Aberdeen in January for a reported £2 million. However, he failed to score in two starts and 10 sub appearances for the Midlanders.

Cosgrove was a schoolboy with Everton before moving on to Wigan’s youth set-up at 16. While with the Latics he spent time on loan at Barrow, Chorley, Nantwich and North Ferriby United.

He left Wigan for Carlisle in the summer of 2017 just prior to Paul Cook taking charge having made one Carabao Cup sub appearance.

After a year at Brunton Park, Cosgrove moved on to Aberdeen where he enjoyed a successful spell, scoring 47 goals in 85 starts and 18 sub appearances.

No such thing as a permanent signing they nearly all move on eventually for one reason or another. As long as they are a minimum one year cant see a problem having two or three a season.

One thing about loans that people forget is that their club will almost certainly be paying most of their wages based on their contract. As long as we are not breaking the bank with our contribution, we get a player we couldn't ordinarily afford. The positives are the... the host club get some contribution to the wages, the player gets regular games and a place to showcase themselves and we get a decent player for only part of their wage. I agree with others that too many loans is a short sighted model but who wouldn't say yes loans like to Celina, Lawrence and Fraser right now...

I have to say thought we would be raising the bar higher than this?

Thought we had folding stuff to spend now?

Razor there's also a cap on what we can spend wages wise the more expensive someone is the more money they command. You guys have got to be realistic whilst we can now compete with the bigger boys for people in league one we still have to work within the budgets. When we go up we'll be able to spend more on bigger fees but until then take it up with evans he's why we're where we are

BeattiesBackPocket… you appear to be delusional about me saying “i want kids in the side”. I've been fairly level minded and yes “literal”, as in facts not BS fanciful dreams based on nothing but emotion. I leave the irrational bit for match day. The logic doesn't work with the narrative on here. Players will only sign for us if they have no better option financially or league status. This means we have to overpay to get better players here. Do you really want a dozen players who only signed for the money? Judge was happy to wave the contract extension…. Whether judge was the right player or not that's the attitude you want. Do you believe all these new guys will love the club so much they'd give up money to play a few extra games? I despair at the level of delusion on here.
