Hawkins Moves to Mansfield
Monday, 21st Jun 2021 18:02

Striker Oli Hawkins has joined League Two Mansfield Town on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

Hawkins, 29, moved to the Blues last summer after leaving Portsmouth and made 10 starts and 13 sub appearances, scoring once.

“Oli will add a real presence in both penalty areas, something which we missed last season, both defensively and offensively,” Stags boss Nigel Clough told his club's official website.

“He’s an unselfish player and his assists ratio is very good, but his presence in both penalty areas is the main reason why we’re signing him.

“He’s been playing in teams who have competed towards the top end of League One in the last few seasons and we’re excited to add him to our existing line-up of strikers.”

The frontman was among the players told he could find a new club by manager Paul Cook at the end of the season.

Elsewhere, ex-Blues winger Danny Rowe has signed a new one-year deal at Burton Albion having joined the Brewers on a short-term contract in February after leaving the Blues at the end of 2019/20.

ITFC Web site has 16 players, ntoms's 15 above plus El Mizouin. Burns & Evans not on there yet but ITFC are taken off the ones that go, sometimes on the same day!!!

Another departure to Lg2. Speaks volumes about the quality of our squad.

Good luck Oli. Clough is a good manager so you will be in good hands there.

Mansfield have a line-up of strikers! Wish we had.

Good luck. Hopefully Jackson will be shipped out before players return. PC needs to sign at least two top strikers to take the club forwards. Norwood is a good backup when fit but his fitness is questionable. Goals was a massive issue last season and it will be this season without additional strikers. Talk of Connelly has gone quiet so he's obviously not keen .

25 out and 3 in. Feel this season will be all about quality of players over quantity though so I have no concerns. We have a competitive squad at this level and Burns, Evans and Page will all add something different to the squad. This is a rebuilding process also, we aren't going gung-ho for promotion this year.

That remaining squad surely doesn't look at all weaker than the one that finished the season.
I quite liked Hawkins tbh but not sorry to see anyone leave who gives up after manager digs at the squad.
Also, as somenone mentioned quite a few of them settling for league 2.

It makes you wonder how Evans was ever a multi millionaire. Under his ownership he rarely bothered to try and get a fee for so many players leaving. I lost count of the number of players allowed to walk away from this Club on a “ free” when he'd spent money on signing them up. So much about Evans tenure seems so contradictory doesn't it.

An odd signing when he joined Town; only likely to be effective if Town went direct, which supposedly wasn't our style of play. Works hard and could be a solid League 2 player if he stays fit.

Seventeen out and two in - is a bit of a worrying imbalance at this stage.
At least at Portman Road - Exports are exceeding Imports - if nowhere else in the Country.... !!!
Somewhat concerning to be honest.

Can't see more than 5-6 on the list of players above that I would want to keep. We need plenty more through the door to be challenging for promotion but I think so far PC has got it right with ins/outs.

I wonder how many will conveniently forget the criticism aimed at Kieffer Moore, and saying he'd never make it ??
Pleased to say I was not one of them, and not the least surprised at what he has done, and achieved thus far.

Thank goodness this chapter which will be associated with some of the worst players ever to wear a torn shirt is coming to an end. Truly awful, can scarcely believe he commanded a fee! That nearly all these players are dropping down a division says everything that needs to be said.

So the 3 players we signed on triple signing day (Ward, Cornell and Hawkins) have all now left the club.

In terms of the current squad there are a few missing from.the list I think Clements, McGavin, Morris, Baggot, Gibbs (hopefully) (please, please sign the contract)

Well done to Ashton for getting a fee, but congratulations must also go to Oli's agent for getting him a 2 year deal!

Never a lot of optimism about when we got him here...too many injuries and never did that much when he can't a chance but that could be said for a number of others last season (some still here).

Need 2 keepers, a centre back, another midfielder and a forward minimum. Probably 2 forwards

Lots of people are alarmed that we are shedding players quicker than we are signing them! Well a cull and squad size reduction is absolutely vital! What do people want, a load of rubbish in to replace the rubbish we have released? For the start of the season I will be more than happy with 20+ out and 6/7 quality players in. A real quality keeper and a quality striker or 2 being the important additions that are vital. We really don't want a hurst like situation, loads of average signings to make the numbers up!

Patience is the way forward!

That's going to be a difficult commute and, Phil, it really is close season news fodder to be having details of a player's living arrangements make headlines.

Ah, I've just read beyond the headline - he's joined Mansfield Town. About the only reason I can think of for moving to Mansfield...
