First-Teamers Set to Start Pre-Season Training With U23s
Wednesday, 23rd Jun 2021 11:51

Flynn Downes, Kayden Jackson, Teddy Bishop, Armando Dobra, Myles Kenlock, Jack Lankester and Brett McGavin are set to start pre-season training with the Blues U23s later this week.

At the end of the season, manager Paul Cook told most of the first-team squad that they could move on in the summer and the Blues boss appears to be reinforcing the point by relegating a number of them from first-team pre-season training, which begins on Saturday.

Lists of players set to start pre-season training with the first team and the U23s have been circulating on social media this morning with only 11 players included in the senior squad. However, both lists indicate that the situation could change “at the manager’s discretion”.

Downes is understood to be interesting Championship Barnsley and we understand the MK Dons' interest in Bishop, which we revealed this morning, is well progressed.

The 24-year-old has also been eyed by hometown club Cambridge United, who, according to the EADT are now showing interest in Lankester.

It has been a quiet close season with regard to links with Jackson, Kenlock and Lankester. Huddersfield were keen on Jackson late in the January window but have not been mentioned in connection with the 27-year-old during the summer.

Monkey Blue these guys are on thousands a month: pat on the back? C'mon, they're not mugs, but have taken many who have the best for ITFC at heart for mugs for years... there's no loyalty in football any more, and that works both ways.

I urge all those worried about the lack of signings to exercise some patience .

I've just seen Paul Cook in the France Portugal crowd.

As soon as the Euros are finished I expect the cream of the continent's footballers to be signing for the town.

The Portman Road Holiday Canp is now CLOSED !

And to you who disagree with it - you have no idea what has / will go on behind the scenes, so leave the decisions to those that know. I think this possibly tells us something about players attitudes to the task ahead, and the Club ... !!!
One thing is for sure and that is there will be no players bigger than the Club - something that hasn't been the case in the recent past.

Let the new regime do it's stuff, and quit the moaning - you wanted change - you've GOT IT !!!

its what they deserve, to down tools and refuse to try at the end of last season was a disgusting act no matter how ignorant the manager....

This story is dynamite! A real scoop for TWTD. I don't remember anything this revolutionary before. It shows that Paul Cook is being consistent. So it should not come as a shock. Never hidden the fact that he has to demolish the failing edifice that's been masquerading as ITFC. He doesn't want to be associated with 90% of the players he inherited. Remember his press conferences towards the end of last season. He was broken in spirit. And his audible coaching on the touchline, all guns blazing, higher, higher, higher! They wouldn't do what he demanded. Only 4 or 5 legacy players remain part of his plans. Drinan must be gone but not announced yet. Has to be true.

So, where we are now is, this letter has gone out to players to tell those over age and 'senior' players that they are with the 23s, because we need to offload them, that they need to leave pronto. This will free up wages for players that Paul Cook is prepared to work with.

About Jon Nolan and the Merseyside connection. This is true. They speak the same language.

Without this squad split, things just drift as they did before and the decline remains set in.

ITFC will always have it's fair share of Moaning Minnies that favour a Cosy Corner Club - they are part of the reason we have degenerated to what we had the past decade and ever since.
Certain players have taken the P#SS and anyone who knows the game knows it - not only players but others on the Payroll too - again, no names need mentioning.
The Wet Rot was deep and entrenched, it will take time to remedy - but of course the people who only think they know the Club, and Game, will expect everything overnight - or moan and feel sorry for the players as already seen on here.

Change has arrived, thankfully - BRING IT ON !! - and back the Management decisions, as well as forgetting the Cosy Corner Club !!

I agree with the above, change was needed. However, the likes of Donacien, Nsiala and Nolan, rather than Dobra, Baggott and Gibbs, is not the direction of travel I expecting or hoping for. Why can't a talented 17 year old go straight into our first team? They regularly get given a chance at teams like Borussia Dortmund, why can't they get a proper chance with us? All these Premier League teams supposedly keen on Gibbs. Cook was meant to be buzzing about the FA Youth Cup run. Didn't he see enough to know that the future is Baggott rather then Nsiala and Donacien? I am pleased to see KVY and El Mizouni on the first team sheet, but they should joined by Dobra, Baggott and Gibbs at the very least.

Our midfield failed to supply our so called strikers throughout last season. Good luck to those leaving Town at their new clubs.

Hope you enjoyed your time at Ipswich, good luck for the future.

Let's get in some ball winners and play makers that have got the movement to break down a defensive line and the ability to find a team mate in the box.

A complete reset is long overdue and an absolute necessity.

Sorry some typos above, as getting to grips with a new mobile device.
I forgot to add, I'm also pleased to see Luke Woolfenden on the first team sheet. But I was really hoping to see Dobra, Gibbs and Baggott becoming regular starters next season. Maybe they will but why wait? If we wait too long they could become regular starters elsewhere.
The players we are getting linked with don't seem to have the same pedigree or potential as Liam Gibbs, so why not just play him from the get go? He's not signed his new contract offer and we might lose him for peanuts, but if he was put straight into the first team from the word go and made to feel wanted, that could make him want to stay.

Got to have some sympathy really. These players haven't been coached, trained or medically looked after for years. I do wonder wtf was expected of them under those circumstances.

If we are only meant to be keeping 10% of the original squad, then 4 or 5 of the "First Team Dressing Room" will also be on their way out.....?

You guys saying it can't be true ect really are a million miles away from understanding how a football club works lol.

Who went back for training early??. A simple question yet no-one at twtd can or will answer it. Presume no-one then and it was rubbish.

Starting to worried that with the lack of signings and pre-season starting at the weekend that we're going to end up relying on these players that have been told they're basically worthless to the club and if that's the case we're going to have a squad of which 90% don't want to be there and won't give a s@*t about their performances

itfcasual added 08:15 - Jun 24
Nobody has been told they are worthless. They've been told that they aren't training with the 1st team and are with the U23s. As it happens the U23s have a well regarded coach, local legend Kieron Dyer. That man had a fantastic playing career with Ipswich Town, in the Premier League and played for England. They should be grateful for the opportunity to be in his company.

Being paid thousands of pounds a week doesn't mean you shouldn't be treated with respect. Those claiming lack of effort are way wide of the mark. We were up the top end in lots of the stats when it came to distances covered.

itfcasual added 13:20 - Jun 24
They're still getting paid. They're still being coached. They still have the opportunity to stake a claim for a place in the first team. Cook is helping them by bringing their prioroties into focus.

If you're talking about respect perhaps start with the customers who have paid collectively millions of pounds to watch a ball get passed sideways for 10 years.

BettyBlue added 15:18 - Jun 24
Proof that Cook is out of is depth and doesn't know what he's doing.

Who employs a manager that bins all his first team players? That's a very expensive choice of manager.

That shows Ashton doesn't know what he's doing either.

Hopefully the inclusion of Nsiala, Nolan and Donacien on the first team listing was a typographical error and when the correct list is issued they will have been removed !
If we are going for promotion then they are the standard of players we need to be rid of.
