Cook: I'm Delighted With the Deals We've Done
Friday, 25th Jun 2021 20:44

Blues boss Paul Cook is delighted with the deals which have been done so far this summer and says he believes his latest recruit, Rekeem Harper, who has joined from West Brom, has many of the attributes required to become a top player

Earlier this month Town signed Wes Burns from Fleetwood and Lee Evans from Wigan with new CEO Mark Ashton having overseen the moves after starting his job on June 1st.

“I would like to thank our owners and Mark for backing us with the amount of signings we need to make," Cook told the club website.

“I said that now Mark was at the club I think we’d have players come in. I’m delighted with the deals we have done.

“The supporters can be excited about the players we have brought in and the ones we hopefully will bring in.

“Rekeem is one of those. He has many attributes needed to become a top player but, most importantly, he’s aware of how hard he has to work to get there.”

It's going to be a bit of a culture shock going to Portman road and watching players actually running around and tackling.

Not only have we signed 3 quality players but so far .... we are actually up in terms of Transfer fees 500k for harper and approx 250k for burns, Evan's was a free and weve received roughly £1.1m (assuming we got around 50k each for Lankester and Hawkins) .... I'd say that's excellent business

And let's be honest who here would take Dozzell, Lankester and Hawkins over Evans, Harper and Burns PLUS 350k ???

So far so good. The club must be in a very strong position with the wages of 26 players saved and now only 3 to pay. I fully expect another six players to leave. I am thinking maybe Holy and Donacien will be retained as back ups. Will be interesting to see if Ndaba is a viable option at left back. El Mizouni may be sent on loan with a recall option. Still wondering what has happened to Drinan. Any news Phil?

So are we Boss. Another 5 or 6 and we will have a hell of a side. Keep them coming.

All the money we are saving on salaries by off loading all our really poor squad from last season.

Keep letting them go and we can offer better wages to quality players.

Linkboy13:
I'm not convinced a team, ‘running around and tackling' is going to win you trophies. The great Micky Stockwell was a classic example of the type, but you wouldn't want ten of them!

So far so good, but still not there yet. The squad as is, is still woefuly short on goals. Am sure plans are afoot and we will trust the process, but it is a little disappointing not to have got more business done ahead of pre-season given how much stock the manager puts in that. Have to assume it has been a tougher ride than they expected to get the players they wanted. Still time....make it happen !

Phase 1-Bring in a new squad and that's going well. Phase 2-Paul Cook to unite and develop that squad. Phase 3-Who knows?
Football is a team game and that is the basic principle on which Sir Alf and Sir Bobby succeeded but that takes time-there is no such thing as instant success but my best wishes go to Paul Cook and all the staff. Who knows-Alf Ramsey-Bobby Robson-George Burley-Paul Cook?

Of course he is, otherwise he would be out of a job and with his town record and lack of money around in the lower divisions, unemployed.

That said the three signings are good. Do not believe all the midlands press.

We neef a goalie, centre back, left back, two wingers and two strikers. Some would say a spine. Other than that - everything is ok.

I believe the difference this season is going to be enormous. Too long have we put up with a dire team. Fact is apart from Dozzell all our ex players have gone dwon to lesser clubs. There will be more signings to. Coyb

Delighted with this signing. Young, confident, aggresive. In comparison to other pre seasons we now have 3 quality players instead of very average journeymen.

Most of the business will happen July 1 onwards, 3 quality signings and 20+ lots of wages offloaded, really good business and we clearly have money to get the players we want. Reading some of the comments this week makes me think if Kane arrived they would still moan.
We are clearly well positioned here to do something really positive, I'm looking forward to more signings and can't wait to get back to PR and get behind Cookie's team

A way to go yet Pavlov's Cat.

We need an energetic engine room to win the battle in midfield.

Three quality signings so far and I imagine a good keeper, two centrehalves, a left back, another midfield player, winger and two centre forwards must be on the wish list.

If they maintain the quality signings I think we are in for an exciting season.

Time is our biggest concern as PC's emphasis on fitness means that some of the new guys will be playing catchup and adjusting to the new style of play.

The next couple of weeks is crucial!!

Markchips, last I heard of Drinan he's retired from football and opened a brothel so he can see if it's true what we've all been saying about him!🤣

Pavlov's Cat: your comment re Stockwell is wrong. If he was transported in time to now he'd be the best player in the team by a mile. He was a very good Championship player and also played in the Premier League. He could play in a variety of positions and did. A good player

If the current players half half his work ethic they'll be doing well. It gets you a long way in the garbage league we are in when harnessed to organisation. The fact that since McCarthy we've had neither of those things tells you why we are an established, middling 3rd division club.heading for the bottom tier, befor March's changes.

I've read some baggies fans say his downfall is he's a bit lazy on the pitch and doesn't like tracking back and defending. I'm sure cook won't stand for any of that so let's hope Paul see a way to change that as he's looks a great signing.

......he's going to use the proceeds to buy some barn doors, a banjo and an Elephants a**e!

Palovs cat. But you need to have a couple of them rather than a whole midfield who amble around with their hands on hips or pointing at others like previous seasons. Also there is more to tackling than yanking on shirts like a former player did excessively.

Town4me. So uve read some baggies fans say hes lazy and doesnt like to tackle back? Which is exactly what he says he does like to do. So who would you believe? Him, or a bunch of fans who are peed off at him being sold?

Shakytown: I totally agree with you, that was my point. It seems everyone is desperate for a team comprised of 6ft, hairy–arsed, 100 mph runners, flying into tackles at will. Whereas you ALSO need the more nuanced and composed guile of a Cruyff, a Muhren or, dare I say it… a Dozzell.

Building a team is like a jigsaw. Not all the pieces have to be pretty as long as every piece fits nicely and makes the perfect picture.
