Drinan Set For Orient
Sunday, 27th Jun 2021 08:11

Town striker Aaron Drinan is set to join League Two Leyton Orient in the days to come.

The 23-year-old joined the Blues from Waterford in January 2018 and spent time on loan at Sutton United, back at the League of Ireland club, Ayr United and in Sweden with GAIS before finally making his Town debut last August.

The former Irish U21 international went on to make eight starts and 16 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring once.

Town surprisingly took up the one-year option in the Cork-born frontman’s contract at the end of the season but now, according to the EADT, will move to the O’s in the next few days.

The frontman not appearing on either the first-team or U23 list of players for pre-season training had led to fans asking questions regarding his future, although it is understood he has been back home in Ireland.

Drinan will become the 20th contracted professional have left Town since the end of the season plus the four remaining loanees.

Elsewhere, Wigan are reportedly set to sign Charlton keeper Ben Amos, whose Addicks contract us up later this week.

The Blues were also interested in the 31-year-old, who the South Londoners had been keen at the Valley.

Another player going to a league two club which is where we would have ended up without out drastic action being taken. Hope he does well at Orient but i fear he might end up back in the Irish league.

A good move for all concerned. He just wasn't good enough last season so hope he does well at Orient

Wish him the best, but I fear lge2 is still above his level.

I'd like to see the lad do well, seems like a really good bloke and deserves to get his career kick started

The effort was there but the quality was nowhere near what was or is required so best moved on….

The only surprise is we didn't release him st the end of the season. Not league one quality in my opinion, but nonetheless wish the lad well.

How did we sign him on in the first place? National League level at best.

Never mind wish him well, as for the keepers position with Amos going to Wigan that only leaves Holy who's absolute crap, not looking good at the moment PC needs to get a grip with this one.

I feel there is a player I Drinan, and he was really handy pressing some times, but the rest of his game as a striker needs work. I'd not be surprised to see him at a higher level than league 2 if he pushes on and makes the next 3 or so years his own.

Jas0999 the reason we didn't just release him is so we could get some money for him imo shrewd business from the incoming owners.
Can't fault this guys effort though and wish him well just not good enough.

Seems like a good guy. Good work rate and effort but not sure the quality was ever there

Nottsboy. What are you on about. We were simply linked with Amos, no suggestion wed actually made a move for him. We are still in for Siegrist and with Pompey having signed a keeper from man city my guess is mcgivilry(excuse spelling if wrong), will end up here. So what's the panic.

Sometimes it works and sometimes not, best of luck to you Drinan. Hope you do well and go from there

BeattiesBackPocket - if we did get some money for him, great. But did we?

I doubt we will get anything for him. Wages off the books. Have to wait until the move to Orient is confirmed. Undisclosed, probably.

It was shrewd thinking of Cook to take up the option. Any money gained from his departure will go towards other signings. Totally agree with blues1 Amos was media link. Siegrist & Macgillivray (spelt correctly lol) hopefully will come.

With players leaving for lge two it underlines the mire we were in , the likes of Bettyblue and Monkey need to follow a different sport i think not club. The change of owner and manager didnt come a minute too soon,it may not result in promotion this next term, but we certainly had no prospect of going up under the old regime.Cook is getting the players he wants, he wont have anywhere to hide if it go's t#ts up ,but at least give him a chance.

Did little for me...league 2 probably about his level but wish him all the best, surprised we haven't off loaded Jackson yet!

Was pleased when I heard Hawkins had left, same with Drinan. No where near good enough for ITFC and players who summed up the level of our decline and malaise

I doubt Cook was involved in the decision to take up the options on players. That would be the domain of the Owners/those running the club for them. I'm not sure on Drinan…. Perhaps given a run in the side he would have developed but all the best to him if he does move on.

As for league two? What planet are people on. With no money we never dipped into the bottom half of the league. And don't group me with BettyBlue who slagged off the previous manager constantly like many of you and probably slagged off MM constantly. Not worth mentioning Hurst's stint. I've been a town fan all my life and for a decade or more was home and away every game. That's whilst living in London so even a home game was an all day affair. I don't like the way cook is going about this. People claiming our players were only good enough for league 2 are inadvertently and wrongly making lambert out to be a genius.

No mention of a fee, but having taken his one year option up, I would have guessed that was the point...

You guys marked me down which is fair enough but if you think Holy is good enough for Town you are deluded why do you think PC told him to find another club if he'd have kept more clean sheets instead of howlers we'd have been in the play-offs.
