Town Make Move For Boro Full-Back Coulson
Monday, 5th Jul 2021 13:12

Town have made an approach for Middlesbrough left-back Hayden Coulson.

The 23-year-old was linked with the Blues on the TWTD Forum and social media over the weekend and we understand there is truth to the claims with the potential move a fair way down the line.

Gateshead-born Coulson came through the ranks at Boro before spending time out on loan at St Mirren and Cambridge United, both in 2018/19.

Coulson, who also plays wide on the left, broke into the Teessiders’ first team at the start of 2019/20 and has now gone on to make 28 starts and 21 sub appearances, scoring once.

He is contracted to Boro until 2023, however, with his involvement having been limited last season his departure would be little surprise.

Town have already signed one left-back this summer, Matt Penney, who joined after leaving Sheffield Wednesday, but with Stephen Ward having been released at the end of the season and Myles Kenlock among those told he can move on this summer, and currently training with the U23s, the addition of a second left-sided full-back has looked on the cards.

Pau Cook's approach is very similar to my career mode on FIFA. Sign young, athletic, fit, quick, strong players. Like it!

That's Kenlock gone then.I wonder who will take him? Another League Two team is probably most likely.

Colchester Mark.... logic says if you sign an entire team that finished mid L1 last year they should walk L2..... at least that's what logic says in Colchester

Looking good isn't it?
I can't help thinking that the quality , fitness and attitude seem to be heading in the right direction, it won't take long to get these guys looking like a decent team.
Anyone on here remember a "decent team"?

I've seen him play and he is quality. EADT reports it being a loan move which worries me. If permanent great, if loan I'd be interested to see what the view is. My preference is we build a team of our own with one or two loan additions.

Not to put too much of a dampener on it but TBH I'm not blown away by the show reel, as most of the players we've gotten rid of could be made to look as good by cherry picking the best moments of their careers but glossing over bloopers for a more balanced view. Wouldn't have any of them back though. However I trust Cooks judgement if he goes for him wont be solely on show reels and would support him and Coulson 100% until it appears they've been given a more than fair crack. Shows a decent intent though so thumbs up for that!

I think the priorities for new players are in other positions now. Kenlock did quite well towards the end of the season so would be good cover for Penney imho. We urgently need more goalscorers.

It is said that he can play all down the left side not just left back, another useful player to fill various roles in a small squad i'd think

The priority still has to be another quality experienced striker, capable of scoring 20 goals.I'm not convinced Norwood or Bonne will get near that figure.
Two experienced central defenders also a must for me.
Being extra greedy Crooks would also be nice !!

Experienced striker and CB in my view are required and no doubt on our hit list.

Norwood like him or not he's proved he can score goals in a crap side . His goals per game record is very good and IF he stays fit (a very big if) he will score twenty goals minimum. Yes you might say but he needs three or four chances to score one but that is why he's playing in division one. Most of his chances he creates himself by timing his runs into the penalty area which is an skill that's hard to teach. Don't get me wrong im not his number one fan. Im judging him on ability alone not on his personality.

The same people moaning about Norwood are probably the same that moaned about Kane not scoring as well. If you don't have the quality or your midfielders are too far away from the striker to provide the service how can a striker score goals? Like Kane, Norwood constantly comes deep or goes wide to get the ball to aide the team as a whole but taking him away from where he should be.

Boro fans seem to really rate him so looks like another good option. I can see now what Paul Cool was alluding to late last season when he said that very exciting times were ahead this season. I'm presuming the new management basically said to him 'get rid of who you want and get who you want'. No doubt why he was so ready to lay into the team at the time too.

Again the reel makes him look a decent footballer, guess the Celina option was soon realised as not a serious proposition hence now the alternative interest in this lad.

Again whilst I don't necessarily take notice of sofa score ratings, this lad has some very poor scores.

To be honest I would like us to push the boat out for Crooks and we may have to pay over the top but he for me is such a pivot piece in the jigsaw that it in my mind is worth

Beatties. Spot on. Our midfield has been the problem for a long time. Soft, couldn't tackle. Couldn't pass, did not compete for second balls, were not fit, need i go on with the weaknesses. None of them up to it and it seems none of them cared enough to fight for a place in the new squad. Good riddance to the lot of them.

I think any one from Downes, Dozzell or Bishop with two big midfielders who could handle themselves would have worked. Unfortunately, we had to stick all three in there at times and that was never going to work. This new squad already seems better balanced with more yet to come.
