Marcus Evans Branding Comes Down
Monday, 5th Jul 2021 14:06

The Marcus Evans branding around Portman Road is currently in the process of being removed.

Marcus Evans logos have been on a number of the stands for most of former owner Evans’s time at the club, however, the one on the East of England Co-op Stand was pictured being dismantled this lunchtime.

Evans, who took ownership of the Blues in December 2007, sold the club to US investors Gamechanger 20 Ltd in April, although retains a five per cent stake in the new group.

We understand there are no plans for the Evans logos to be replaced by Gamechanger 20 branding.

Good. The only branding on there should be for ITFC, not for someone to push their organization. It would be awful to have gamechanger on there. Maybe if someone pays us a lot of money or Pioneer are interested again :)

Let's get Pioneer back. A great brand for a great club.

Unless I'm mistaken, the legal entity Gamechanger 20 was formed as a vehicle to purchase the club, so I don't see that there's any commercial rationale for having their branding anywhere, it's not like they have anything to promote like ME did. I never really minded ME's branding on the ground, I think there's plenty worse examples where the names are changed etc.

I'm fine with selling stand sponsorship to generate additional revenues, although 1 thing I would definitely draw the line at is renaming it anything other than Portman Road. It'll always be Portman Road for me.

Uppa Town, COYB.

You contradicted yourself perfectly Europa!

ringwoodblue hence the smile at the end, but anyway. If we get extra funding from an advertiser, that is different than vanity branding to stroke the egos of the people in charge of gamechanger.

IpswichT62OldBoy If it just says ME just tell everyone that you are egotistical and deny the Marcus Evans connection

Good!

It's unfortunate he still has a small stake in the club but the less reminders of that the better.

Regency - so if someone paid all your debts off for you, you'd slag them off would you?

I agree Evans has been bad for our club but we'd be in deep do-do financially if he hadn't written off most of the debt. Give him a little credit where it's due.

Hopefully more sponsorship arriving soon. Commercial revenue is crucial to our success beyond this season and L1.

Alittle history lesson for some. When Sheepshanks was seeking a new owner, Marcus was the only option. He absorbed the debt and was restricted by tne financial fair play rules.
Yes It's time to move on but with some respect for Marcus.

Good. Going past the ground and seeing those initials grated on me. I hope his 5% is bought out sooner rather than later

Ringwoodblue 70 million of that debt was his through poor management of the club. If a plumber sh!ts in your sink after fixing the sink you don't say thanks after!

Tractorbreezer that's factually wrong sheepshanks made it well known as did the EADT that there were 3 buyers interested I'm not thankful for him taking us to our lowest position in over 60 years with no structure and due to both causing an extra 70 million pounds of debt.

I see some of the Evans lovers are out again!

You might not like it but his time here is done, and he's left one hell of a mess for the new owners to clear up. As for writing off the debt, most of which accrued under his inept ownership, he was never getting his money back mismanaging the club as he was and nobody was going to purchase it whilst it had that level of debt on the books.

It wasn't an act of charity by Evans in writing off the debt, it was damage limitation on his part!

All you "Toadies" going on about "respect for Marcus" and ooooh... what a lot of debt he wrote off, etc etc. need to get real and read up a little bit about how the club "owed" Evans this pile of debt (mostly an amount he BOUGHT on the cheap + interest on that debt), which HE himself grew and grew and grew through his own ineptitude to the detriment of ITFC.

Add to that the p*ss poor football being played by the team, which got us relegated, because he sold our best assets and replaced them with rubbish in an attempt to balance the operating costs... and he even failed to do that effectively because he had no clue what he was doing!

So give it rest, eh?
