Town Confirm Fraser Signing
Wednesday, 14th Jul 2021 20:01

Town have confirmed the signing of MK Dons midfielder Scott Fraser on a three-year deal for an undisclosed fee.

TWTD revealed earlier this evening that the 26-year-old Scot, who primarily plays as an attacking central midfielder, had been at Portman Road today to formalise the details on his move to the Blues.

Fraser was still in contract for another year and it’s likely that Town have agreed a high six-figure fee for Fraser’s services. Hull City and Wigan Athletic were among the clubs previously linked.

“This felt right, coming here after speaking to the manager and [CEO] Mark [Ashton],” Fraser told iFollow Ipswich.

“I have seen the players the club have signed recently and it’s a massive club that clearly wants to go places so I’m delighted to be part of it.

“I have always said that I have wanted to play in the Championship and then push on from there but I didn’t want to go to a club a level up just to say I had played at that standard.

“If the opportunity came along, I wanted to join a club that had ambitions to get in the Championship and not just survive, but to kick on from there and when I spoke to Mark and the gaffer here, that is what I took from it.”

Town boss Paul Cook added: “It’s our second signing in three days and I am absolutely delighted.

“Scott is 26 years of age and has played in England for a number of years.

“He was blossoming at Burton and then took it up another level at MK Dons where he was one of the standout players in the division last season. It’s great to have him here.”

MK sporting director Liam Sweeting said: “Scott was a player who did brilliantly for us after joining the club on a free transfer last summer.

“Given how well he did, and that he was entering the final year of his contract, we anticipated lots of interest in him this window and eventually we have got to a point with Ipswich Town where a deal has been agreed that is right for MK Dons.

“This is another example of us trading successfully in a challenging transfer market and with six weeks left of the window, we remain fully focused on bringing the right calibre and character of player that can improve us for the season.”

Dons manager Russell Martin added: “Naturally we are disappointed to lose Scott but we were prepared for this eventuality.

“An important part of our recruitment process is succession planning and we are incredibly excited with both the players that we already have in the building, and those we hope will arrive before the end of the summer transfer window.”

Fraser started his career with hometown club Dundee United during which time he spent a spell on loan with Airdrieonians.

In 2018 he moved on to Burton Albion, then after two years at the Pirelli Stadium departed for the Dons, for whom he made 45 starts and five sub appearances last season, scoring 14 times.

Fraser becomes the club’s eighth signing of the summer and the second this week following the recruitment of Joe Pigott from AFC Wimbledon.

We understand the recruitment of Fraser doesn’t end the Blues' pursuit of Rotherham midfielder Matt Crooks.

Another very decent signing, his stats are very good. This window just keeps getting better, Celina and a decent experienced centre back, and we will be a serious force in this league.

Trncbluearmy. How is this instead of celina. Fraser is not a winger. And we are still trying to sign celina anyway. And crooks. Hes not instead of anyone. Just another player we were after.

Are all these signings at least championship quality ? Given there are a lot of 3yr contacts and hopes of promotion they need to be or this close season's events have to happen all over again.

Looking forward to seeing how this team develops this season, can't wait for the first match of the season with the buzz of expectation and excitement of an attack minded formation. Good luck PC and our new and old additions, we've been festering for far to long. COYB

Idnj. Considering almost every player weve signed so far has been wanted by championship clubs, I'd imagine they are. The length of contracts don't make any difference if they turned out not to be tho. Just mean wed get a fee to move them on.

Excellent signing. We are still well short on even filling the subs bench with KVY and Nolan off sick so a few more still needed. Three more should do it Celina on loan, Crooks and Gibson ?

Another top signing, right age, right attitude with good experience in Lg1 and capable of stepping up. Welcome Scott!

Please let's finish off a good week with the signing of Celina and a strong central defender.

Could be a new version of Warky judging by his attributes...... fingers crossed. Just another winger and a cb or two who pose a threat at set pieces to go and we should be up and running.... coyb

Quality signing proven at this level, yes please.

Ldnj I can see your point but I think we are operating in the sweet spot in the market. Established championship players would represent a significant chunk of the salary cap. IMO building a squad of players who are proven at this level but have the potential to step it up (most of our signings so far I would say do, shown by championship interest) is perfect. Maybe one or two players above that level but wouldn't require many more than that.

Signing players of this calibre means they still have that desire and hunger, something this club has dearly missed for so long.

Cbs and wingers now please Mr Ashton, no good having a star studded attack if the front door is open all season!

What a shrewd signing by PC & MA. He will be able to link up with his mate Joe pigott who he will know well from last season. KiwiBlue2 if he is half as good as Warky he will be great. All we need now is Celina,Crooks & Gibson & we have the full package.Maybe sneak in another centre back.

EXACTLY the type of player we should be signing. 26, MK Dons Players' Players of the Year 20/21 and 14 goals last season.

Rumours that Bishop was going the other way - thought he might be a part exchange and a way of moving him on.
