Bishop's MK Dons Move Finally Set For Completion
Thursday, 15th Jul 2021 08:53

Blues midfielder Teddy Bishop’s move to the MK Dons is reportedly finally set to be confirmed.

TWTD revealed that the 25-year-old’s switch to MK was well progressed almost a month ago but with the deal still to be formalised.

However, according to Football Insider, the Town academy product is now poised to join the League One side.

It had been reported that the Dons needed to sell before they could complete the move with Town having signed midfielder Scott Fraser from them yesterday.

Speaking on Tuesday, manager Russell Martin said he hoped to make another addition by the end of the week but dismissed the suggestion that that was dependent on Fraser’s sale, which was completed last night.

"We're hoping to have another one done by the end of the week but I don't want to put a timeline on it,” he told the MK Citizen.

“There are three or four we want to bring in still, but when you're looking at good players, there are always others looking. We hope to get things done as soon as possible.

"These deals won't rely on selling Scott. We're working within a budget, which is smaller because of Covid, but we know what we're working with.

“We have a lot of people who want to come and play for us. It's not reliant on selling Scott. If he goes for a significant amount, hopefully we'll see a bit of that.”

As reported early in the summer, Bishop’s hometown club Cambridge United showed interest, while Portsmouth, Lincoln and Hearts were more recently linked, although the claims regarding the Scottish Premiership side were subsequently dismissed.

Bishop has been training with the U23s this summer having been told he can move on. He played what's likely to be his final game in a Town shirt at Bury Town on Tuesday.

In total, Bishop made 81 starts and 51 sub appearances for the Blues, scoring five times.

Last bits of dead wood to get rid of who have rinsed this club for far to long.

Good player, could beat a man, yard of pace - BUT made of glass.
A risk to have in at the club given his injury record

Im sad to see him go but its the right move for him and us. I always feel like quaility players like him will do a McGoldrick always on the treatment table for us but an everpresent for the blades.

Best of luck Teddy and thank you for your efforts.

When Bishop first got in our side, he was like a breath of fresh air, but sadly the injuries have taken their toll. A change of scenery and different coaches might be exactly what he needs to reinvigorated him and get his career back on track.

Sad to see Bishop leave but my God just compare his stats to Fraser's the last two seasons. No brainer switch tbh and I dare to suspect their wages are similar if not lower for the Scot.

I've just noticed that the FA are being very strict on squad sizes including 8 home grown players which we will not qualify for once Bishop and Downes leave.

EFL Squad Limits

(ii) in Season 2021/22 and each subsequent Season, 20 Players of which a minimum of 8 must be a Home Grown Player.

43.9.2 The following Players do not need to be included in the Squad List to be eligible to play in League Matches:

(b) in respect of League One Clubs and League Two Clubs, any Under 21 Players.

Is this going to cause us problems in bringing further players in?

This is the player that I really don't want to let go of. I don't get the thought process on this one. Have a gem of a player, who then has a huge part of his early career blighted by injury and then when we do have him back fit and able to contribute we cart him off, because he just happened to be here before Paul Cook. They didn't play him in the Number 10 role where he would excel running at defences. Our best player with the ball at his feet and someone to run at. He started the season great alongside Nolan and Dozzell, but with solid players like Evans behind him giving him free reign to attack, I think he would flourish in the Number 10 role.

How can you say he's a 'Poor Man's Fraser'? How do we know how Fraser will play for Ipswich before we've seen him play for Ipswich? I hope Fraser proves to be a wonderful player for us, but does that really mean we have to dump Bishop?

As tractorboy says...'time will tell who has obtained the best deal'.

Why can't we have them both? Why can't Bishop play with Fraser or swap them around when one is in or out of form?

We dumped a load of players that justifiably should have been given the heave ho, but I don't get the Bishop one at all. Home grown, with great footballing skills, offering something other players don't offer, and finally getting to a place where he can play consistently without injury. I might be nostalgic for games where he ran the show like away at Middlesboro, but I for one still believe Bishop has a hell of a lot to offer, and it saddens me to think we're just lumping him in with all his other team mates from last season. We're keeping Nolan...why not keep Bishop?

Blueballs, I think homegrown means trained in England not at the club. There is another rule for that I believe, so it shouldn't affect us as most of our signings are English.

It's so sad to see another of our very own leaving. Just 2-3 years ago, Bishop was tipped to be a Championship player! Now, one by one are discarded by the new set-up! I really hope what Cook and the new set-up will get it right the first time of asking! All the best, Teddy!

To keep the ugly arrogant trait at bay; it wouldn't be totally unexpected that Gwion and Teddy's new clubs finish above us this season, so it could be a great move for him. Personally I'd be very sad to see him leave. Yes perhaps he's never reached his full potential, injuries putting paid to that, but there's no doubt that there's a gifted player in there. With the injection of cash it now appears that we couldn't give a sh*t if he's come through the ranks or is 'one of our own', or that we've nurtured him.The intention is very much to buy our way to 9th place !!!

We've swapped an injury prone 25 y/o with a poor goal return for a 26 y/o with a very good goal return? I'm happy with that.

I wish Teddy well. He's 25 - no longer a young prospect - and hasn't really kicked on in a blue shirt. Despite flashes of brilliance I wasn't convinced he would ever be the player he was hyped to be.

Taricco fan....don't get carried away by the goal return. 9 were Penalties last season...He's certainly a good acquisition though Fraser...just don't get why we can't keep both! Swap them around and keep them hungry for action.

Bishop was finally staying fit. We should be making the most of our patience, not offloading him

Mariner - Bishop's not up to the rough and tumble of league one. He has talent but lacks the energy and stamina that Paul Cook wants. Too fragile, too often goes missing.

We need players to get us out of this league asap. That's what Cook is doing. There's too much sentiment surrounding the academy products. We can't wait for Bishop to have that perfect season where he stays injury free and bags loads of goals and assists. Time to move him on.

We certainly got the better end of this deal. Bishop had ability but having seen him away from football thought he was not a dedicated player with an inflated opinion of himself.
5 goals is just not good enough, OK he had injuries but I'm pleased to see the back of him. Can't see him playing at a higher level now.

Sorry to see Teddy go, but he has been part of a sad phenomenon that has dogged us through these recent grim years–the non-scoring midfielder. From Skuse and Bishop to Hyam and Bru to Dozzell and Downes, we have had midfielders whose goals are banner events. It became a bit of a joke with Skuse, but he really shouldn't have allowed to neglect that side of his game, and I suspect it may have affected the others. If Evans and Harper and Fraser can score twenty goals between them, we'll be in much better shape this season.

I come to this debate having been a big fan of the “Tedster” and watching many hours of U23 games and being a supporter of bringing our own through.

I am pleased for Teddy that he compared to recent seasons had a good season last year although I know many will disagree with me on that. However, he still has much more to prove to turn his undoubted talent and potential into a product that makes a difference and helps a side to tick. I do honestly hope that his fragility is now behind him and that his move proves a stepping stone to much bigger things rather than becoming a Jonny Williams mark 2. It is an undoubted risk for MK Dons but I wish them well.

Cook has a winning mentality and the new owners and investors will not accept anything less, there was no alternative but to take this opportunity with many contracts running down to have a complete reset.

As much as I wax lyrically about some of our youngsters that winning mentality has to be spread across the whole club, a football club of our stature cannot remain lingering in this division much longer otherwise it will die and go the same way as some other famous old clubs and names like Notts County and be stuck in the lower echelons of the pyramid.

If we have learned anything you cannot win or compete certainly in this league with a team full of youngsters. The ME experiment failed because we did not have sufficiently robust experience players to be able to gently introduce a young player or two and provide the right framework for introducing them.

Our development policy has to be seriously looked at, it is not a criticism of Bryan Klug who has done a fabulous job over many years, but we have to produce stronger, hungrier and better aground footballers. Cooks interesting philosophy appears to select players that look entirely comfortable in more than one position, hence I suspect why 8 of his players when at Wigan managed over 40 games a piece in a season, obviously fitness and physical management of players also played a big contribution to that.

We have to take the best from those clubs that have been successful at producing good players even the likes of Peterborough, and create a hybrid that only accepts the best rather than allowing a squad to grow by just let's give him another year hoping that he will make the break through. We have had far to many players on our books and very few clubs wanting to take on loan our so called promising talent. And let's face it we have to be a bit more brutal, without naming any names but if you fail to get regular game time or not creating an impression at a Scottish 2nd tier side then you have to release these players to lower clubs in the pyramid for their second chance rather than just holding onto them.

I think and hope the revolution at our club is only in its infancy, in defence of the younger players I just love Adam Atey's contribution and the energy shown by our under 18,s so in some respects there are some things that are still very good at the club but the transition between 18-21 is the critical area of focus and development as a player needs to be making a mark to be included in some first team activities whether it's training or making the bench.

Sad as I am at seeing Nydam, Dozzell, Bishop and even Downes leaving, I unlike others raise no criticism of these young players and hope they go on to better things as an advert for coming through the ranks at ITFC, the failing as said being a poor recruitment policy addressing the needs to adequately provide robust, capable and experienced players to provide spine and anchor to the first team.

Taricco Fan - The difference for me, is that Bishop would smash this division if he knew he had players behind him like Evans to man the ship, leaving him to run at players and link with the front men. Agreed we need players to get us out of this league, and we should ditch like we have the dead wood, but I don't consider Bishop as part of that. He's too good, and not just because he's 'one of ours'.

I would have rid us of all Hurst's signings.

Mariner1974 added 13:55 - Jul 15
So Monkey_Blue you'd keep Bishop then? Weren't all Hurst Signings from League One or Below? I only really liked Gwion, and Nolan for those games where Bishop, Dozzell and him enjoyed playing in the sunshine of Portman Road together at the start of last season, and then didn't enjoy it so much when the wind and rain started to lash it down in Accrington.

Ifs, buts and maybes. Could'ves, should'ves and would'ves. The world is full of them and so was Ipswich's first team squad.

5 goals in 130 games for an attacking midfielder is no where near good enough. Possibly forgivable if balanced off by regular assists, but it wasn't.

Maybe if Norwood spent more time on the training ground being a professional footballer instead of driving birds home from the pub half pissed, Teddy would've had someone to supply…

We'll never know.
