Legend Butcher Exits U23s Role
Friday, 16th Jul 2021 11:58

TWTD understands Blues legend Terry Butcher will no longer be working with Town’s U23s in the season ahead.

The former Town and England captain rejoined the club in February 2020 coaching in the academy.

Last season, the 62-year-old worked alongside U23s manager Kieron Dyer coaching the development squad, who finished second in Professional Development League Two South.

However, we understand the former centre-half has been told there is no role for him on the coaching staff in 2021/22.

Dyer will be continuing in his position with Bryan Klug, who has been head of player and coaching development at the academy for the last few seasons, assisting him.

Lee O’Neill looks set to continue in his role as academy manager having held that job in addition to the general manager of football operations position he took on in December 2018.

For those of you on here calling Terry Butcher a dinosaur and a 'has been' absolute shame on you, you disgust me.

I appreciate some of you are too young to remember this man, but a bit of research will put you right.

Show some respect!

A useful footballing man with shed loads of experience is shown the door but Evans mouth piece is still on the pay roll!! beggars belief

The crucial thing for me is that Dyer really rated him. So unless Dyer was just being nice, it seems a strange decision. I get the old guard thing but not for a legend from back in the day who has only been doing the job for a few months, so he's hardly a relic of the Evans era

This will be driven by the new regime UNDER PC rather than by PC I reckon. This is all to do with the sports science approach the new regime has invested in, which I agree with. But if a man as great as he is discarded and not offered any kind of role at all going forward, that I will not.

None of you have the faintest idea what has happened or why. It is impossible to comment on the club, the hierarchy, Paul Cook or Terry Butcher without knowing any facts at all.

What I heard is that PC got rid of chambers because he didn't like the competition for respect from the players. That's why he jerked him around. & Blues1… O'Neil gets to concentrate on one job, but Klug is saddled with another. If you are going to make an argument make sure it actually doesn't contradict itself .

Will American owners sell our soul in the end?

If the ITFC owners want one picture to sum up "Marching Towards Adversity" I suggest they google Terry Butcher England shirt

There would be no finer ambassador for them and Ipswich Town

Well let's sit back and enjoy the ride. I'm not convinced with what I've seen so far but I'll judge after 10 weeks into the new season. Butcher is very level headed and is respected in the game.

This is the first strange decision I 've seen from the new management. Terry has been brilliant for this club and England. Surely he will be missed massively with his experience as a defensive giant. He is a club LEGEND and will never be forgotten. There has to be an extremely good reason for him to lose this post and I guess it is very unlikely we the fans will ever know what this was. Terry, saw you when you played your first game for the club in the first division (now Premiership) and will never forget it. Home grown and a star. Thank you for your undiminished love for Town.

Monkeyblue yet again you start your whole conversation with an ‘I heard' blah blah! So what if cook did? Hurst had the same issue with chambers as well so maybe there's one issue in that whole scenario and that's chambers! No player should be bigger than the manager or club! FACT!

Hurst was completely and utterly out of his depth who had an odious assistant who showed a total lack of respect to all players. Hurst and Doig ruined this club in 4 months and only now are we starting to hope again. Chambers stood up to them after the abuse handed out to Bart - and good on him.

Butcher has gone. Klug (similar age) will undoubetdly be next . Times move on. Most on here will be aiming to retire at 62/63, so lets hope Butcher enjoys his latter years and gets many of them.

A few months ago we were facing further decline under ME with no prospects, no goals and no chance of signing anybody that wasn't rejected by their respective clubs. And still you moan and make up fake news and conspiracies about where the club is going. Close down your social media and call up a friend or relative, we are going to be ok 💙👍😀

The report indicates that Terry was informed that there was no longer a coaching role for him, so hopefully another role is available for him. I think it's a shame he won't be involved in coaching because his credentials as a defensive coach are second to none and Kieron Dyer has confirmed how valuable he was. Butch is a true legend and a lovely man so unless he wants to retire it would be foolish not to take advantage of his knowledge, personality and passion for the club.

Sounds like this came from the club and not him. If that's the case it seems very short sighted to me. Why wouldn't you make space for someone who knows what it takes to play at the top level, has a lifetime of coaching experience and knows what it means to represent our club? His Town links alone in a club that's increasingly lacking people with a strong connection should mean he's worth a role.

I'll make a bold statement that if Ipswich Town are outside the top three by the end of October PC will be following Butcher.
