Cobbold Stand Mural Complete
Thursday, 22nd Jul 2021 16:03

The mural across the back of the Cobbold Stand, featuring the stars and momentous events in Town’s history, is now complete.

The mural depicts a timeline from the club’s formation through to the First Division title championship in 1961/62, the 1978 FA Cup victory, the UEFA Cup in in 1981 and on to the Second Division title win in 1991/92 and Wembley 2000, while also paying tribute to many of the club's heroes.

Plans for the mural were announced in January 2020 but were interrupted by the pandemic.

The glass on the back of the Cobbold Stand had been among the areas of the ground which had fallen into disrepair in recent seasons with a plastic coating having become detached.

The mural was designed by Town fan, Marcus Parrott, who was previously responsible for the Blues' programme covers in 2018/19, while the Hudson Group supplied the print and fitting.

“The club wanted something that would catch the eye but that also told the story of Ipswich Town,” Parrott told the official website.

“Obviously being a fan of the club myself, it was a job that immediately appealed but design-wise it was a challenge because we had to work around the metal strips that hold in the panels of glass. Hopefully the end result will be well received by the supporters.”

@SheptonMalletBlue

Oh I can assure you that wasn't offensive!!

And speaking of growing up ( so you don't read something you don't agree with and try and take the moral high ground after its aimed at you) how about you reserve your negative opinion on who is in the mural and show some proper bloody respect for those who put a lot of hard work in the creating of it, you don't have to like it (or aspects of) to show appreciation to its creators!! That would have been the grown up thing to do, right??

Just makes you proud to be a town fan. Can any other club in east Anglia provide a history like this.. no they can't. The pride of Anglia always was and always will be. COYB.

I was there today and loved it, remember some much of the good stuff as I was there. The bit I also love is the away supporters will see all this on their visits to us as well as Sir Alf & Sir Bobby.

Firstly, my apologies to Bluearmy71 for your initial post, i hit teh wrong arrow.
OK so this is a first step, but as Mark Ashton confirmed in an early interview, this piece was commissioned by ME in Jan 2020, so fair play to him, and for MA for getting it over the line.
That stand, however, is still a mess, I do hope the new board will take the opportunity as we have all being saying over, the last week or two to get more done on the Cobbold, Close those gaps between those horrid old white columns with canvasses or cladding, or, as someone mentioned last night, flags and poles all the way along the car park fence.
PR has been under-maintained for decades, The Cobbold is the most viewed stand because of its position so lets keep making a noise about how we appreciate whats happening to encourage them to do more.

Excellent work. Well done Marcus Parrott, Marcus Evans, the club & all those involved.
Only problem is when we win back to back promotions & the Premiership & back into Europe, we'll have to put the rest of our club honours on the walls above and to the right as we've run out of space!
We can but dream!

Dare I say, a gap should have been left for the Gamechanger era……..let's hope they regret not leaving that space!

Tremendous job indeed.
We can't fit everything in but I would like to have seen the Texaco Cup win featured - we often forget (like 67/68) just how important winning the cup was (especially at carrot road).
It was the beginning of our rise under Sir Bobby

Fantastic! As for Chambers its not all about success, sometimes its about loyalty and passion and Luke Chambers was that in abundance and deserves his place upon the murals. Coyb

As for Titus just for that tackle on Roy Keane is worth the inclusion never mind the money he brought into the club, we had a few good performances from the boy

Would love to see a little mural dedicated to Dalian Atkinson somewhere in the stadium.
He deserves it.

Rip the roof off, add another tier, let's get the capacity up to 38,011 :-)

Not only will it lighten up all ITFC supporters, just think of the away team visitors. ie: just think how it going to make Them realize what we are and what we have done. Them up the road will be envious to see what we have done, and how was feared over Europe.
