Edmundson Bid Accepted
Monday, 26th Jul 2021 15:12

TWTD understands Rangers have accepted Town’s offer for central defender George Edmundson.

Town made a bid understood to be approaching £1 million over the weekend which the Gers agreed to accept this morning.

Edmundson is at the club this afternoon with talks regarding personal terms ongoing with the Blues offering the former Oldham man a four-year deal. Confirmation of the move could come later today.

Championship clubs have also shown interest in Edmundson this summer with Rangers having previously turned down a number of offers, the highest £750,000.

If the Blues complete the move, the central defender will become the most expensive signing of the Gamechanger revolution so far.

Derby County, where Edmundson spent the second half of last season on loan, are keen on his return to Pride Park but are only able to offer another loan due to their transfer embargo, which is the case with a number of the other interested parties.

Championship new boys Peterborough were keen on Edmundson earlier in the summer but have dropped out of the running.

More recently, League One trio Charlton, Sunderland and Portsmouth were claimed to want him on loan, however, Rangers have been looking to do a permanent deal.

Edmundson joined the Glasgow giants from Oldham for £750,000 in the summer of 2019, signing a four-year deal which still has two seasons to run.

However, the Mancunian has never really established himself at Ibrox - he has made only 13 starts and four sub appearances, scoring twice - and has fallen down the pecking order following Nikola Katic’s return from a serious knee injury.

Edmundson, who is 6ft 3in tall, came through the ranks at Oldham and spent time on loan with Ramsbottom United, Alfreton and AFC Fylde while with the Latics.

In 2018/19 he was named in the League Two Team of the Year before making his move to Rangers that summer.

Some moves just don't work out for players. But if we can get this deal over the line , I think he'll be an awesome signing for us .

OMG it's all starting to fit together isn't it . I'm going to fiend most of the games trying to work out whose who out there. Thank god for names in shirts these days 👍

Suspect I will be downvoted but I am just passing on what I've been told by an Oldham fan…..

“ Strong and aggressive. Never came on as well as we hoped, he broke through early with us, if we'd given him a full season with Peter Clarke he would be a different player. Has a mistake in him and can get in bother of an evening. He might blossom but I wouldn't be dancing in the street if I were you.”

I wonder how many people lauding this signing have seen him play? I remember not so long ago many people were calling for the signing of Curtis Tilt as the ‘final piece in the jigsaw.”

At the moment all we can do is place our faith in PC and his team that Edmondson is a gem.

If Paul Cook thinks he's decent and Derby County wanted him, then I think we just need to trust that judgement. If he can knuckle down and keep his nose clean he will be a great addition. COYB!

Nobody will want Jackson. He will end up being released. Kenlock will more than likely get another club.

I know nothing about him, the same as most people on here. I admit I was looking at the club signing an experienced centre back who could captain the side going forward. I'm not impressed by Woolfy and Nsiala if I'm honest, both have lapses in games, make mistakes and give goals away. Hopefully with the right coaching Edmundson will turn out to be a shrewd signing, no doubt the new setup have done their homework and we have to place our trust in them.

Europablue. Chelsea sacked Adrian Mutu so it does happen. Although he was doing cocaine and drinking the blood of porn stars - allegedly.....

6'3. If he has decent hops, we might actually get a head on a corner for a change.

In Cook we trust. Putting aside last seasons results (albeit with a bunch sh!te bags lol) Cooks handled most situations well (IMO) Who's better than to judge a players ability than him, certainly no one on here that's for sure. A million tag and Cooks knowledge should be enough to get fans excited for now, until such a time when you can personally judge him for yourselves! Embrace and enjoy FFS

None of us have a clue if he's any good or not do we. Always find it hilarious how people can just be so obsessed with the new and say someone like Woolfenden just isn't good enough, and that anyone coming in must be to replace players like him. Woolfenden in my eyes is our best prospect at centre back, can play the ball around well, and as he gets older will learn the defensive nous that usually comes from age and experience. Closest thing we have to Adam Webster who we let go on a whim.

My old Boss is a mad Rangers fan and this is his take - "He came from Oldham as a central defender, but was way down the pecking order. He broke covid rules last season so was sent out on loan to Derby last season . best he goes - could be good for you guys and if you've paid £1m then good business from our prospective ".

Fingers crossed and hopefully Edmundson will become an Ipswich great and be at the club for many years....alongside Woolfenden!

Didnt Neil Woods and Alan Hunter come from Oldham-----long time ago I know!!

Razor, Hunter came from Blackburn, but they signed him from Oldham. Neil Woods was a name I was searching for. John Duncan signed him from Rangers, but I think he started at Doncaster

As a Glaswegian blue nose and a Town fan I am happy with this as it suits both clubs. He is third or fourth choice at Ibrox and I think he can do a job for Town and the Gers make around £800k profit ! So good deal all round 😀

I don't know much about this lad. He's obviously struggled at Rangers but has played in the Championship for Derby. Hopefully he's an upgrade on Nsiala. Time will tell but welcome to the club. Maybe the next Matt Clarke or Adam Webster.
