Town Closing in on Signings Nine and 10
Tuesday, 27th Jul 2021 09:43

Town look set to confirm their ninth and 10th additions of the summer today with the deals to sign George Edmundson and Conor Chaplin both close to completion.

As reported yesterday, Rangers central defender Edmundson’s move was at the club in the afternoon to complete the formalities on his move to the Blues.

It’s understood the switch, which will see the 23-year-old join Town on a four-year deal, is done subject to the formality of international clearance.

Rangers accepted a fee of around £750,000 for the former Oldham man, who becomes the most expensive signing of the Blues’ new era.

According to reports in Scotland, the Gers will be due further cash if Town win promotion to the Championship.

As per yesterday's report, Town’s move for Barnsley forward Chaplin is well advanced with the 24-year-old having been in talks with the Blues since the weekend.

That deal could also reach its conclusion today with Chaplin set for a reunion with manager Paul Cook, who he previously worked with at Portsmouth where he was a member of the squad which carried off the 2016/17 League Two title.

If the moves are completed in time, the duo could be involved in this evening’s friendly against Colchester United at the JobServe Community Stadium (KO 7.45pm).

Wholesale changes like this aren't normal at all, but somehow I trust we will work it out.

I do believe the management team are well funded and using it to our advantage, especially this transfer window.

Cook seems to be happy. So I guess we just hope for the best.

Somehow the Hurst era was not normal at all, perhaps because decent players were let go and worryingly our star striker wanted out as soon as Hurst came in.

I know it's not comparable, just happy that we are trying to make logical sensible transfers. They may not shout premium signing or bargain basement but there seems a theme to me. That we only looking for players with a point to prove, HAVING PROVEN IT to some level in the past.

Looking forward to this season

Fair point wilnisfan, just hope the remaining bomb squad are all moved on to help balance things up. Ashton seems to be working well and in a logical fashion as obviously Cook wants the new players in asap to integrate them in his ways.

Blimey! We're on a bit of a hiding to nothing tonight. Everyone (me included) is expecting a solid win. If we don't get it, the reaction is going to be interesting.

This has probably been mentioned by someone else on the forum, but whilst we are spending transfer money surely we've shed some of the players who were on decent salaries and reduced the volume of first team players we had meaning we've been able to re-balance the wage bill a bit? Long comment short, we're redesigning the team whilst being shrewd and ensuring the books are in good shape. At least I hope!
