Jackson on Target But U23s Lose at Chelmsford
Wednesday, 4th Aug 2021 21:46

Kayden Jackson netted his first goal of pre-season as Town’s U23s - also featuring Flynn Downes, Myles Kenlock and Brett McGavin - fell to a 3-1 friendly defeat at Chelmsford City.

The Clarets went ahead in the sixth minute via former Norwich frontman and one-time Blues trialist Simeon Jackson.

Town’s Jackson levelled in the 12th minute, beating former Blues academy keeper Jacob Marsden.

But ex-Town U18s striker and 2005 FA Youth Cup winner Charlie Sheringham put the Essex side in front for a second time just before the break and Adebola Oluwo increased the home team’s lead in the 64th minute.

U23s: Bort (Ridd), Alexander, Kenlock, McGavin, Smith, Baggott, Curtis, Downes, Jackson (Manly), Page (Agbaje), Crane (Valentine).

Would have though Chelmsford would have been Kayden Jackson's level although after this even they won't be interested shame

Should be banging them for fun in against a team like Chelmsford. Worrying for the price we paid for Jackson why its only the one. Not going to impress too many potential buyers with that. Hope his confidence is up with his first one though as it'll be in everyone's best interests.

This is exactly why Jackson and Downes are not in the first team squad. Two highly overrated players who think they are bigger than ITFC.

Not a great result. Hardly inspiring.

Jackson did score more than 10 goals in 2019 so I don't see why he can't score that again.

So Downes, Kenlock and Jackson just don't seem to be able to win or do much against any opposition for any manager or team at this club. Which is a shame really.

That's why they are in the under 23's..... garbage all three of them.

no surprise , again people will say only a friendly, but we should be capable of showing something better than we have in them. Disappointing, and i fear things may not go too well when the real deal starts .

I was excited when I heard we were signing Jackson from under the noses of Peterborough and how McAnthory was saying how it cost him £4,000 for the medical as Peterborough always seem to buy good strikers.

Looks like they dodged a bullet there and saved themselves £1.6 million paid plus a ton of wages

O Lordie! Sad days. This is a team game which is worrying. Senior players should be leading from the front and I would have expected a much better result. PC must be disconsolate after these preseason games. Its gonna take a whole lot of patience from everyone if this continues. COYB

Iv asked before, does anyone know what mcgavin has done to be exiled? It's not like he was a major part of our terrible team and hasnt really had a chance to impress or disappoint since PC took over?

Sorry but I dont get this. So jackson scores in the game and yet its him rather than the others involved who gets all the stick from the majority on here? A striker can only score goals if chances are created. Or do u lot expect him to do it all on his own? Dont get me wrong, I'm not saying hes a great player but it's ridiculous that hes the one being slagged off while the others get away with it? But then, a section of our crowd love to have a scapegoat. Even at u23 level it now appears.

Struggling to think why Jackson is still here?

Dirtydingusmagee. What are you on about. This was an u23s match. What the hell has that got to do with the 1st team? Not 1 player in that lineup that likely to be anywhere near the 1st team. And before u say it, no it may not be all guns blazing at the start of the season. As all sensible fans realise, we are a work in progress with so many new players. And it may well take time for it to gel. As the owners have already alluded to. it may take time. We dont have to start like some fans expect, winning week in week out. Blackpool failed to win any game in their 1st 10 last season but went up. So let's be a little patient shall we? Rome wasnt built in a day.

I may be in the minority, but I rate Jackson as a striker, but like all strikers you have to give them service...even Harry Kane !!!
One up top and lump the ball forward is no good to anyone. From what I have seem from Jackson so far this season has made some great runs and had good movement and when has the ball looks to make that telling pass.
I am not sure why all this negativity towards him, apart from it seems he was a Hurst signing !!!
Jackson is an option that gives pace and energy that the current strikers do not provide.
OMO he needs to be given a chance and with such a small squad, will be needed !!!

Unhinged_dynamo - I think you are asking the wrong question. Maybe ask what did he do to earn the first team spot? He is not exiled, he is just an U23s player who needs to show more to earn the first team spot.

I suspect Chelmsford's players have had a lot more minutes than the bomb squad

OK - must come a point when you give McGavin and Kenlock frees or terminate contracts by mutual consent I would do this at least two weeks before the end of the window. Best for them and club -- fresh start. Otherwise they hang around for another year. Not sure how much ITFC will get for Downes and Jackson - certainly they will not get what was offered last year. Given the number of strikers Town have got, I wouldn't hold up Jackson's departure for money. To date - all fees in besides Dozzell and Liam Gibbs have been "nominal".

Downes, Kenlock and Jackson proving a point to Cook they are not good enough. Yes Mcgavin is a little bit unlucky but Cook would have seen enough of him in training games which are very high intensity affairs.

Jees.

Under23 or not that is a woeful result, surely.

Three former first team players. Gulp.

One thing it proves, which is something we knew about all three, is none can change a game.

Downes, what's happening mate.

And our first team beating the mighty Dartford 1-0 is a great result. Dartford are about 8 places above Chelmsford in the football pyramid.

Like Blues1 has said many times, it is all about minutes and not the result. The under 23s have not had many games at all.

Perhaps the under 23s are missing Butcher more than anyone thinks.

And for those who went to Melbourne, Downes had an ok game.
