Town Closing in On Aluko Signing
Friday, 6th Aug 2021 16:28

TWTD understands Town are closing in on the signing of Nigeria international forward Sone Aluko.

We understand he is at the club this afternoon and is the third player manager Paul Cook was talking about this morning at his press conference.

The 32-year-old is a free agent having left Reading at the end of last season.

Born in Hounslow, Aluko started his career with Birmingham City having been brought up in the second city.

Loan spells with Aberdeen and Blackpool followed before he joined the Pittodrie club on a permanent basis in September 2008.

After three years, Aluko left and moved on to Rangers, where he spent the 2011/12 season before moving on to Hull City that summer.

In July 2016, 5ft 8in tall Aluko moved on to Fulham but was at Craven Cottage for only a season before moving to Reading for a reported £7.5 million on a four-year deal. He spent a spell on loan Beijing Renhe in China in 2019.

Following his Royals release this summer, Aluko, whose sister Eniola won 102 caps for England, has been training with Derby and played in their friendly at home to Real Betis, which was watched by Blues boss Cook.

Having won England caps at U16, U17, U18 and U19 levels, Aluko switched allegiance to Nigeria and played for their U20s and U23s before winning seven full caps, scoring two international goals.

Town have already completed the loan signing of Aston Villa forward Louie Barry, while Michael Jacobs is also expected to complete his move from Portsmouth later today.

We understand Hayden Coulson's long-awaited loan switch from Middlesbrough should be completed early next week.

Disagree ChrisFelix..I would have loved to have a player of Finidis quality, just need to know how to use a player of that quality.

As Norwood is banned, if he needs a lift to Wigan, i am happy to oblige. I am off up there next friday but only going as far as Halifax (sowerby bridge where Ed Sheerhan is from), so he will have to make arrangements.

Linkboy13. Hes 32. Thsts not old for a footballer nowadays. Years ago it was very much the twilight of a players career but with player fitness so much more looked after nowadays, hes got a few years left in him yet. And let's face it, theres been torn fans last season who wanted Murphy back, at 37 so this guys well under that.

Another Evans era signing, can't see where he fits in that forward line, unless he's cover for Burns on the right as I'm sure that's where he played primarily

OK did not see that coming.... instead of playing 7 -2-1 like we did under Mick or what looked like 0-0-0 under Lambert we're going to play 1-2-7 under Cook..

The best form of defence is attack.

Imagine if we sign Carrol too

Blueyswede. Finidi was awful here. Even said so himself he wasnt good enough here, some years later Had 3 decent games. Was used in the position he played. As a winger so not sure what you mean by using him correctly. We did.

@ChrisFelix - Yeah, who would want someone who was one of the most technically gifted players to wear a town shirt in the last 30years... fills me with dread

Really impressed with our signings but this one is bizarre.

Chaplin is left footed and played left wing for Barnsley. Barry's preferred position is up top but more likely to play on the left. Jacobs is a right footed left winger & we also have Dobra who can play either side. Why sign another left winger (whose also way past his prime?)

think I'm getting greedy and think we still need a Crooks type midfielder/stopper. Looking forward to season ahead with a bit of patience

ok he is 30+ but he has been playing at higher level, reckon he will have enough in him to be useful from bench if not more at Lge 1 Level. Some seemingly think Messi is a possible signing now and wont be happy with less lol .

We go seasons with no strikers and people moan, we then sign a few and the same goons moan, give Cook and Ashton time, I hardly think they need telling we need a defender or Two, just enjoy it for once !!

So we now have Pigott, Norwood, Bonne, Barry, Aluko and Jackson (have i missed anyone?) who play up top and a preferred formation of 4 2 3 1.

I cant help feeling Jackson will be gone very soon.

Jackson to Wigan ?

Delighted to see all these arrivals, but find it difficult to understand how our wage bill can be within the league's restrictions.
