Swansea Linked With Downes Move
Friday, 6th Aug 2021 18:07
Swansea City are reported to be the new frontrunners for Blues midfielder Flynn Downes.
As reported on Wednesday, AFC Bournemouth recently ended their significantly advanced interest in the 22-year-old, while Town turned down an offer from Peterborough earlier in the summer.
Now, according to the EADT, the Swans have made an approach for the former England U19 international, who has been training with the U23s having made it known he wants to depart this summer.
The Welshmen appointed former MK Dons boss Russell Martin as their new manager earlier in the week with ex-Town first-team coach Matt Gill as his assistant.
Town are likely to want a seven-figure fee for Brentwood-born Downes, who was the subject of rebuffed bids of £1.2 million and £1.6 million from Crystal Palace last summer.

Good move for both parties.
Good luck to him and hope he kicks on! - Get it done

At this point £1m, with up to 20% sell on would be good business.

Would be great if we could get a million plus to add a couple more of good quality, especially defensively.
I do think it would be decent business as every time I’ve watched him live or on ifollow he has flattered to deceive.

Needs to move ,unfortunately ,as he’s lots of growing up to do ,both personally, as an individual and most certainly if he is to realise his potential on a football field .
Talented , physically strong , he is too often over- committed and lacking the mature judgement and timing which his other attributes ought to make an easier task .
New surroundings, stronger players around him ,and real and consistent competition for a place should help this young man grow into a presence to be reckoned with !

Should have gone to Palace last season. It obviously affected him last season and he no doubt fell out with Cook early on.
So I hope this comes off. We get a decent fee and Flynn gets to kick start his career again.

Realistically, can we expect to get a Million for a player who can't get on the bench in pre-season games ? May be well worth more BUT under the present circumstances can we get it?

Obviously Matt Gill had a big part in this. Hope this comes off and he can carry on with his career.

Sad how things have turned out. Hope all those that were in our rotting squad go on and do well.

1.5 million, job done. A nice few quid towards bringing in our new captain.

the sooner this saga is ended the better for all, good luck to him, imo he will always be a fitness worry. His head was turned by Palace, and he was really a goner from that point .

Like Doz, Downes deserves a fresh start somewhere else and Swansea seems like as good a place as any so hope it happens soon although I would’ve preferred Bournemouth.

If it's clear he doesn't want to play a part in our new revolution, cash in and move on!
£1M or thereabouts seems like good business for someone who is surplus to requirements, just going through the motions in training to pick up his wages.
While he is undoubtedly talented, his progress here has stagnated to the point where he is of no consequence to us going forward.
I'd wish him all the best and cash the cheque!

£550,000 bid apparently plus add on's.

We seem to be in the sad position that he doesn’t want to be here and the manager doesn’t want to play him. If he moves then we lose his salary and gain a fee, hopefully one that we can use to buy a player who wants to play for us.

I personally like Downes (if his mind is right and wants to be here, who knows?)...would have liked the new faces to be built around him as the holding midfielder, if he goes it's a total clear out in midfield, almost unheard of in modern day or even back in the day football.
