Downes: Thanks For the Help and the Memories
Thursday, 12th Aug 2021 20:16

Departing Town midfielder Flynn Downes has thanked everyone at Portman Road for his 15 years at the club, admitting that the last year has been tough and adding that “you only ever see half the story”.

Downes completed his move to Swansea on Tuesday, signing a four-year contract with the Welsh club.

Writing on Instagram, the 22-year-old said: “Just wanted to say a massive thank you to Ipswich Town for the last 15 years. It’s been my home and a second family since the age of seven.

“To all the staff over the years and the players at this club, thank you for the help and all the memories.

“To all the fans, who have always been right behind me every step of the way, it’s something I’ll never forget and I can’t stress enough how much it has meant to me.

“I wish I could have helped this football club get back to where it belongs but as everyone knows, It’s been a tough year for me here mainly off the pitch but… as a wise man once said.. ‘you only ever see half the story…’

“Thank you for everything and I wish you all the best in the future 💙🚜”

Good luck to him. A big miss who would have had a spectacular season for us had he stayed, no doubt. Will follow his career from this point on - the type of midfielder I always enjoy watching.

Definitely used as a bargaining chip by PC to generate cash and fund his much vaunted complete change of personnel !
It's a shame as FD looked like becoming a real professional asset ,but it's not to be at ITFC !
Best of luck young man ,have a great career ,take every chance to learn and improve AND many of us will be watching on !

We should all be grateful to FD. A great young player who has played a big part in financing our coming season…

Good player and I would have liked him to stay on but clearly he needed to move on. I don't think he'll ever be a world beater but definitely a decent championship player if he can control his emotions.

Always loved FD's all action, aggressive style of play, he always gave 100%. Even in the friendlies, where a couple of years back he squared up and head-butted someone (Col U?). After that I couldn't get "It was only a kiss" from The Killers Mr Brightside out of my head every time I watched FD, it would've been a great song for him. Good luck Flynn.

Well written by the media crew at Swansea City no doubt. Sorry, but from what I hear from the other half of the story, this lads got a nasty streak in him and his behaviour on and off the pitch is questionable. Whilst I wish all our players and ex players well, this one needs to sort his head out to reach anywhere near his potential.

Good luck Flynn. If he kicks on and develops into the player he has the potential to be, we could resign him for big bucks when we're in the Premier League in a few seasons :-)
