Accrington Boss Confirms Burgess Fee Agreed
Saturday, 14th Aug 2021 18:45

Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman has confirmed that his club has agreed a fee with the Blues for central defender Cameron Burgess.

News that Burgess, 25, who was left out of the Stanley side which beat Cambridge United 2-1 today, is on the way to the Blues broke this morning.

“Cameron is a great lad and we appreciate what he has done for us,” Coleman told the Lancashire Telegraph.

“I didn’t want him to go but the chairman, Andy Holt, has done the deal for the right reasons and Cameron can earn a lot more money at Ipswich so you can’t deny him that.”

Speaking to his club's official website, Coleman said he thought chairman Holt ought to have demanded more money for Burgess with the fee understood to be £750,000.

“Me and Holty are generally on the same page a lot of the time," he said. “This one wasn’t my decision. I would have held on for more money and I certainly didn’t want to lose him because I think he’s worth more than that. But we have got a decent fee for him.”

He added: “Cam will be earning a lot more money. Ipswich can pay a lot more money than us, undoubtedly a bigger club than us. Whether they’re a better club, that remains to be seen.

“But you can’t deny Cam the opportunity to earn three or four times his wages here and he leaves with all our best wishes.

“He’s a great lad. He went through the pain barrier on Tuesday to play a game for us, he was prepared to do exactly the same today. I think that tells you everything you need to know about the lad and Ipswich are getting a good player.”

Definitely needed to bring him in. Good height to.. I think our pairing will be Edmundson & Burgess.. Wolfy is still making silly little mistakes and I can see him being dropped if he doesn't gain confidence in the next 2 games.

90z would agree in general but thought Woolfie and Donacien had pretty decent games today overall. Missing our penalty(soft) was key and the ref evened it up by giving them a soft one in return when we were very much the better side.

Bedsitfc. Stop showing ur total football ignorance. A manager who's managed 3 clubs. All 3 clubs promoted as champions. Just grow up and give the guy a chance to get this team playing. And remember, we prob wouldnt have signed several of these players without cook being here. Said that he was one of the main reasons they came here. Of course theres things that need to be improved, and they will be. But for gods sake give the guy some time before slagging him off. Imagine if John cobbold hadnt given sir bobby the time when fans were calling for his head? The good thing is, that the new owners wont listen to those ridiculous fans calling for cooks head, just 2 lge games into the season,(pathetic), and he will be given the time

Always accept that defenders will make the occasional mistake. But Woolfys lackadaisical approach does not inspire confidence. We need a strong spine and feel that Toto n Woolfy are not the answer.

Blues1 just because Cook has seen teams promoted before dosnt mean he is beyond criticism ,he could fail for ever more, he has done FA by way of results since he arrived ,for whatever reason, if people dont agree your opinion so be it .I dont, and if im wrong i'll take it on the chin later, Cook needs to give the fans some hope, and something to cheer about so far he has been all wind .

Prediction Woolfy will be dropped as his mates have all left and he is sulking Nsiala is another sick note like a Nolan . Not impressed that Edmundsen is not playing yet . Seems we have more injuries than ever. About time this expensive new medical team starting earning their money. There is definitely something wrong at the club with all theses injuries, perhaps the footballers are all soft?

Foe those of you who watched the game today I thought Woolfie and Donacien did OK. it's a long season and we will get injuries so strength in depth is important. This is a good signing, still think we need another goalkeeper to compete with Hladky. Oh and after his performance today sign Akins, what a player and what a game he had and we don't have a player of his ilk.

I've seen the guy play, so don't hold your breath. Okay but not a commanding central defender, plays as the back up but that could have been how the manager wanted him to play

Geeze really? two games in this season and some lunatics are calling for Cook to be sacked.

I do dispare at times. Cook like everybody else is open to critisism but with a totally new squad with what we all recognise as improvments all over the park, people that are playing for the club, manager and their teammates ,commited and above all wanting to be here. And yet some are still unhappy.

Give the team and manager 10-12 games in then make your feelings heard. Back the boys to the hilt its obviously much better than under Lambert just give them a little time.

Blues1 I have downvoted you, not because I necessarily disagree with your opinions, but due to your language. “Total football ignorance … grow up … pathetic”. You may be a splendid fellow and very knowledgeable about football, but you do not improve your arguments by being aggressive and rude.

Blues1 is absolutely right. Paul Cook IS the man to get us up into the Championship. 2 league games although the results havnt gone our way we have had more chances/shots so far than we may have had all last season !! Give the guys a rest and we will improve and gel together. coyb
