On-Loan Simpson Nets First Senior Goal
Saturday, 28th Aug 2021 19:32

On-loan Blues striker Tyreece Simpson netted his first senior goal to see Swindon Town to a 1-0 victory over Mansfield at the County Ground.

Simpson slammed home from close range from a cross from former Blues loanee Jonny Williams in the 59th minute. Ex-Town men Elliott Hewitt and Oli Hawkins were in the Stags side.

“It was a great feeling,“ Simpson told swindontownfc.co.uk. “The fans were buzzing and I just feel like all the hard work I've been doing is finally starting to pay off.

“It was such a relief when the ball hit the back of the net and just to hear the fans roar was amazing.

“I feel like that first goal was a long time coming, and now hopefully they come flooding in. I've had the chances, I'm just grateful that one went in.

“As a striker it may seem like I'm not bothered and not scoring, and it is always in the back of my mind that I'm not scoring because, at the end of the day, I'm a striker and that's what I want to do and that's my job. But, obviously, you've got to help the team out when you can.

“From here we keep on building, cut out some of the silly mistakes and keep on progressing. More goals will come and we'll keep building from here.”

Regarding Williams's cross, he added: “It was decent. You see it in training and he's got that bit of magic.”

The 19-year-old, who is with the Robins for the season, has started all six of their games so far.

Great finish by Ty today ! Last week against Salford he had an assist and almost his first senior goal with a lob from a tight angle. In the hearts of the Swindon fans already if you delve into the Swindon forums. This is great news for Ipswich and especially for Ty such valuable experience for his development. He has started all six games and those good performances now backed up with a goal which will probably mean more to him than anything being a striker hopefully the first of many.

Excellent goal! Same old story isn't it? All who left went on to perform better, and what we have continues to rot! My biggest fear is coming truth, a wholesale change won't make you a good team unless you buy a Chelsea or Man City! What could have done was to strengthen our weaknesses while keeping the core! In fact, the previous team was an above mid-table team. I think now is the worst in our history! 21st in League One! Cook may have done it before but I don't think he is the man to do the job here! His records so far speaks for itself!

So pleased for the lad. Surely Johnny Williams is too good for league two.
