Blues Linked With Brighton Keeper Walton
Sunday, 29th Aug 2021 09:45

Town are reportedly showing interest in Brighton keeper Christian Walton, along with Nottingham Forest and Derby County.

According to Football Insider, the Seagulls have made the 25-year-old available late in the window having reduced their asking price with the Blues said to be readying an offer.

Earlier in the window, Forest and Derby were keen on Walton along with Norwich, Swansea, Bournemouth and Luton but with Brighton asking too big a fee. The Premier League side are understood to prefer a permanent deal to a loan having received plenty of requests regarding the latter.

Walton was widely tipped to be on Town’s radar this summer having played for Paul Cook during a loan spell at Wigan Athletic during their 2017/18 League One title-winning campaign and also the following season in the Championship.

Town were always expected to sign two keepers during this transfer window with Cook believed to have told both David Cornell - who is now with Peterborough - and Tomas Holy they could move on.

Vaclav Hladky was signed from Salford in June and has played every League One game so far but has had a difficult start to his time with the Blues.

Wadebridge-born Walton, who is 6ft 5in tall, was a schoolboy with Plymouth’s academy before moving on to the youth set-up at Brighton.

A former England U19, U20 and U21 international, Walton has made six starts for the Seagulls and has had spells on loan with Bury, back with the Pilgrims, Luton, Southend and Blackburn in addition to his time with the Latics.

I think there may be a queue of ITFC fans waiting in their cars to drive him to Portman Road. He'll only need one car though, so the others can fight about who gets to drive Hladky in the other direction...

After yesterday , great doubts about Hladky , so I really hope this happens . The uncertainty in defence has spread from the keeper , to others not trusting him to come for crosses . Get Walton in asap .

Certainly Hladky is not cutting it [at moment at least] he is a worry ,so this needs to be sorted,Walton would be a good signing imo.

We certainly need an alternative to Hladky who frankly is no better than Holy, and arguably worse, from what I've seen so far.

If we do get someone it's going to cost us though at this stage of the transfer window!

Sign him up asap....

Gk performances so far have been far from impressive....

Hladky clearly needs more time to settle down at the club.

On paper signing the league 2 golden glove seemed the right thing to do but the first 5 games proves otherwise with the goal record. Think this signing would be welcomed by the whole fan base! COYB

If we sign Walton, we will have 3 senior goalkeepers, which is excessive. Does that mean Holy will be sold or loaned out?

Radlett blue

Holy was told at the end of last season he could leave so if we can sell him or loan him out I imagine we will. We might even pay his contract up depending how long is left.

We do need a new keeper, however how much do we know about this guy? I have not heard of him until this morning. If we sign somebody new then he has to be better. Sadly my trust in Cooks transfer policy is waning

I share ,or begin to share, ‘mutters ‘doubts about the policy, principles and character assessments of those PC has bought and brought into ITFC .To date there's been much uncertainty about fitness, stamina and technical abilities – who is actually doing the close vetting ,and why are things awry at all ?
PC has been let loose, virtually indulged to choose a squad - and dispose of another - without showing us yet that he's anything more than an empty barrel making a lot of noise !?
The wisdom of his choice ,both of words and personnel ( not only players) can rightly be called into question ,and it'd be a real surprise if the new Board are not asking penetrating questions ,AND demanding answers !
How long this malaise will go on will surely be determined by action from the top of ITFC .
But COYB ,please !

must say mutters, some of the new players have not shown anything special despite the hype at the time.Fitness needs to improve thats for sure, had assumed these aspects had been looked at prior to signing but it makes you wonder, but fitness can be achieved [hopefully].Im of the mind we have decent players but Cook needs to up his game he has plenty to say but we have heard it all before, its results that speak loudest ..

I've been saying since the first game of the season that I'm worried about Hladky, he is too small and doesn't command his area, and even on low strikes he isn't particularly quick with reactions. Although Holy has had some dodgy moments, last year we didn't concede many, and at least Holy commands his area. Let's hope we get this Walton, should be our 1st choice and Holy as the back-up. Stop these gifts we are giving to other teams and we could be in the top 6 instead of where we are now.

Need a goalkeeper who is vocal, can command his box and deal with balls in the air (but I thought that was a gimmee anyway)

Surely Walton has got to be better than what we have at the moment ( he can`t be worse) so go get him Cookie. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Yes agree we do need a keeper but it would help if we had a settled defence. Bart struggled in his last season with a poor defence but now he's one of the best in the championship.

Since Bart, we haven't had a good goalkeeper at Town and as he proved for three seasons in a row, they are worth their weight in gold if they perform well.

Think Holy deserves a chance but after the careful measured signings of the past few months, it's all feeling a bit desperate atm.

Walton is a very dodgy area in Liverpool. Hopefully this guy is far from dodgy, we don't need another dodgy keeper!

A new keeper is so clearly our number 1 priority now. Hladky seems to be a carbon copy of Holy......really nice guy......terrible keeper (Based on the evidence so far, which may be a little unfair in so few games, but there are clear signs that he is very poor).

Linkboy13 added 15:58 - Aug 29
Yes Hladky has the potential to be a very poor keeper. Holy has proved time after time he's not good enough. Looks like one of them will go out on loan probably Holy.

Regencyblue.. i think it will cost us more if we dont sign a decent keeper! Havent rated Hladky in any game i have seen, get Walton in asap

Whilst Hladky has not been the keeper we were looking for. All these last minute signings and 'linked withs' are beginning to look like Hurstesqe desperation.

I'm losing confidence in Cook knowing what he is up to.⁷

Much needed. Holy is not good enough for a promotion-hunting League 1 side and Hladky has been shocking thus far.
