Morsy Excited to Be Part of the Project
Friday, 3rd Sep 2021 19:06

New Blues signing Samy Morsy says he’s excited to be part of the project at Portman Road and says there’s no chance he would have dropped a division for anyone other than Paul Cook, who he worked with at Wigan and Chesterfield, having been happy with Championship Middlesbrough.

Morsy, who skippered the Spireites and Latics and is expected to be handed the armband at Town, became the 19th Blues senior signing of the transfer window shortly before Tuesday’s 11pm deadline.

“Not a chance,” the Egyptian international told the club side when asked if he’d have moved down a league for anyone other than Cook.

“We’ve been very successful together and I think he’s built a very exciting squad.

“I loved my time at Middlesbrough, the manager, the staff, the players and the fans have all been amazing with me.

“When it was time for me to leave, I couldn’t think of a better place for me to move to than Ipswich.

“There were a couple of options but then the big pull for me was knowing the manager; his style of play, his record.

“I don’t want to be dropping down a level but hopefully it is just a season and then we can get this club closer back to where it belongs and striving to do well.”

Morsy, who will wear the number 55 shirt, while new keeper Christian Walton has been handed 28, says he was impressed by the signings the Blues have made this summer with Cook using one of those additions to persuade him to make the move to Suffolk.

“It’s massively exciting, you just look at some of the names,” the 29-year-old continued.

“The manager rang me to try and convince me and said 'We’ve just signed Celina’. My reaction was just ‘Wow!’ and he said 'Yeah, wow!’. It’s a project that I'm excited to be a part of.”

Welcome Sami. An other player who has expressed his desire to play for Town, and even dropping a division for it. This is the kind of committment we've been missing from the majority of our players in recent years.

I love the quote at the end expressing his excitement that Celina had just signed - really hope the pieces are starting to come together now.

Why can't we just go back to numbers 1-11 on the players shirts? Then each number meant something. 55 ffs.

To all the Cook doubters - how many times has it been said that the manager has been the pivotal factor in then joining the club? Enough said.

Until Cook improves on his record of 4 league wins in 21 we should all remain doubters. Praise will come if and when the results start to improve, and frankly if we can't win games at this level with a squad like we have then incompetence will be the only reason. Players are fed what to say when joining a club because it makes supporters on forums feel special. The proof of how interested these guys really are comes on the pitch. We can no longer use the lame excuses that have been spouted for the first month of the season. Time to prove yourselves Ipswich. Gel or be gone.

He'd be excited if an ice cream van pulled up outside his house. Let's face it were hardly the dream club for anyone these days ……. Let's see how excited he is in March.

He Chepstowblue, I think the team need time to gel. I think the gelling process is a really important part of building a team. If I'm honest I think that each player we sign needs time to gel with the team and the team needs time to gel with their new team mate. It's all a bit like making a good strawberry jam, it's all in the gelling. So let's all get behind the gelling process and hope that the team starts to gel soon but if they don't quite gel in the next match then let's be patient and give them some additional gelling time.

An absolute warrior and a great addition to the team. My best mate a wigan season ticket holder said he wont talk to me anymore :-) He will galvinise the entire team and drag them all in the direction we all want to go.

For me probably the best signing so far.

Bazza8564 Your comment is one of the things I've grown to hate about this site and probably society in general. People are all equally entitled to their opinion and you are not in charge of who can and can't be here or be an Ipswich fan on the basis of them simply not agreeing with you. Snowflakes aplenty on here.

So many players have joined project Ipswich because of the draw of playing for Cook again but can Cook succeed where so many managers in recent years have failed? Time will tell.

As a season ticket holder it's abundantly clear to me that the club has assembled an excellent squad of players who are more than capable of winning promotion. Thus far the football has been exciting but the setup questionable. I'm going to remain patient but with this squad of player we have to be winning matches. Poor substitutions and players apparently not knowing their responsibility (midfield) is a constant worry. The defence and keeper unfortunately get the blame but the setup has to be right
