Two Let Off
Two Let Off

Two of the five Bolton players have been let of the charges made against them after the play-off semi-final second leg at Portman Road. Mike Whitlow and Claus Jensen have had their charges waived, although Whitlow still faces suspension over his sending off.

The players were charged with misconduct after having to be restrained by stewards when protesting over the second Ipswich penalty. Town hat-trick hero Jim Magilton was also charged with misconduct after an incident with Paul Warhurst just seconds later. He has asked for a hearing with the FA.

Richard Wright has been joined as a Celtic target by both Mark Bosnich and Jose-Luis Chilavert. It seems there is a lot of idle speculation in that direction now that Martin O'Neill has taken over.

Barnsley have denied any Town interest in Craig Hignett. Chairman John Dennis said: "Two Premier clubs have asked about Craig. I don't want to reveal who but, contrary to rumours, Ipswich are not one of them."

Barnsley have turned down a cash plus player offer from Nottingham Forest. Hignett is likely to fetch about £1.5 million. Town manager George Burley was quoted last week as saying he would be interested in buying Hignett but only if the deal with Martijn Reuser falls through. Something that, according to the player earlier in the week, looks unlikely.

It seems increasingly unlikely that David Holdsworth will be becoming a Town player. The Birmingham skipper has said he wants to play in the Premiership with the Brummies and dismissed rumours of interest from Town as merely that: "At this time of year there is always speculation about players moving here and there. It's Ipswich at the moment because they have gone up to the Premiership.

"By the time I get back from holiday it will be someone else. As far as I am concerned, I am a Birmingham player and that is what I will continue to be."

Trevor Francis has apparently doubled the asking price for Holdsworth since Town were promoted and so the story had already seemed to be cooling off.

Former Town man Chris Swailes looks likely to be moving to Swindon from Bury for £200,000.
