EFL Confirm Town Squad List
Thursday, 9th Sep 2021 11:31

The EFL have confirmed Town’s squad for the first half of the 2021/22 season.

As reported last week, following the closure of the transfer window, clubs were obliged submit their squad within 24 hours with the EFL publishing the lists a week later.

League One sides are restricted to squads of 22 outfield players aged 21 and over on January 1st this year.

The additions of Bersant Celina and Samy Morsy on deadline day took the total of Blues players currently at the club who fit into that bracket to 24.

As expected, the men missing out on places are out-of-favour left-back Myles Kenlock, 24, who has continued to train with the U23s, although without featuring in a match, and Ben Morris, 22, who is in the early stages of his comeback from his second ACL injury. It's expected that if all goes to plan the frontman will be loaned out in January.

Centre-half Corrie Ndaba and Brett McGavin, both 21, are out on loan at Salford and King's Lynn for the season respectively.

All the squad count as homegrown players >under the EFL’s rules, except Scott Fraser who came through the ranks with his hometown club Dundee United in Scotland.

Centre-half Luke Woolfenden counts as a club-developed player, the only one amongst the seniors, with the EFL dictating that either the 22-man squad or the matchday 18 must include at least one or face having to name only six subs.

There is no restriction on goalkeepers whatever their age, while Rekeem Harper, Louie Barry, Idris El Mizouni and Bailey Clements are all on the list of players aged under 21.

The OCD in me is taking issue that Joe Pigott is not listed in correct alphabetical order.

Maybe 22 is his luck number! :-)

I think we need to start using his full surname Wozencroft Pigott

I really don't know what Kenlock has done to deserve this. He's not going to be a premiership left back but he's more than good enough for league one. Is there some behind the scenes stuff we don't know about? Has he been caught drink driving(again Norwood)? Refusing a breath test? Sending threats on text to a woman? Or something not as bad that has made him unacceptable? He's now in a position where he can't get games to be match fit for the U23's, the new regime said there would be no paying off of contracts….but if they were why not do it early in the summer so he had a better chance of finding a club? There may be good reasons to treat him this way but they aren't apparent. I'd rather have Kenlock in the squad than Jackson.

WHO is hopeful Nolan, Jackson and Norwood will actually make a meaningful contribution this season ( doubts arise about fitness, commitment and technical ability – and footballing intelligence ).
Let's trust in PC ,there's lots and lots to prove !

On paper a large and talented squad, but, as Brian Clough pointed out, football is played on grass.

I'm very glad that I don't have to pay the wage bill!

SuffolkBoy… Nsiala and Nolan were signed off the back of one good league one season, Donacien and Jackson off the back of one good League Two season as with Norwood. None of those players are good enough for the next level and haven't convinced me they will be significant at this level.

Suffolkboy, 100% with you on that one.

So Woolfenden knows he's on the bench at worst. If he's injured or suspended then we can only name 6 subs...

So this means that Sheeran won't be coming on for the last 2 minutes of the last game of the season when we've already won the title by 12 points?

cooper4england, there's still hope for sheeran as the squad is only until january!

parisblue, i think we can put one of our under-age u-21s on the bench (eg el miz/clements/humphries) instead of woolf

If Myles Kenlock is stranded in no man's land, I feel sorry for him.

Monkeyblue, regarding Kenlock, I have some reasons as to why he isn't required and so does the manager.
He gets forward to attack but never gets back to defend.
In the last 5 years he always gets on the wrong side of his winger and hopes that pace will save his brain.
1 cross in 10 gets past the first man, are they enough reasons to sacrifice him?
Also if he is so great why has no other team shown any interest in him?

Monkey Blue: I can understand why Kenlock does not make the squad with Penney and Coulson now ahead of him, but I agree with you that on a personal level, it's a pity. For me, he's always put in the effort, and has often played quite well when driving forward. He did make mistakes too, but he wasn't exactly alone in that in the teams he was part of. It is a bit odd that he's not been snapped up by another L1 or L2 side. While he may not pull up trees, he's surely a pretty solid option at these levels.

Surely we should release Kenlock from his contract or at least loan him out, although I am sure Ashton has already tried the latter

kenlock can be loaned out to non-league now.

he's too good for that level, but needs to show that by his performances there, he has no other options until january

Monkey_Blue - Because compared to Penney & Coulson, he just doesn't have the talent, no club has shown an interest in him to sign him, so that should say it all really...

The 1st team looks really strong in print, "just" need to get wins and build confidence.
But also I am really hopeful with the prospects of Dobra, Chirawa and Simpson. Have only seen bits and pieces of them, but Chirawa has scored some cracking goals.

I have to say that I have been unimpressed by Penney so far, maybe it's just me that thinks that?

Ashton will need to make a call on Kenlock. There is no point having him sitting around collecting wages. If he is completely out of favour best to do a deal on winding his contract up early. I suppose kenlock will be on a decent wage so a non league club would only contribute a small percentage.

Perhaps negotiations are now taking place ?

If i was kenlock, i would make town pay up the whole contract in full or just sit and wait. No team showed any interest on the wages he is on, so he has to sit tight until january. Why move for half the wage - you only get one career, so take the wage and bank it.

Kentish tractor, it leapt out at me. I bet he did the list, counted them and thought "blast I've forgotten Piggott, then stuck him on the end"

Nsiala and Nolan were probably the most improved players during the previous regime(s). Jackson would be a great player if he could be coached to time his runs better to stay onside (I remember David Johnson II having the same problem until he learned better). Kenlock is frustrating because he has talent but doesn't think quickly enough for this level. Hopefully there is a new culture at ITFC. I used to work for an American company whose thoughts on culture change were “If you can't change the people, change the people.” We've done that. Pre-season is now over. The season starts on Saturday. Time to get results. COYB
