Morsy and Armin Make Debuts as Cook Makes 10 Changes
Tuesday, 14th Sep 2021 19:06

Town boss Paul Cook has made 10 changes for this evening’s Papa John’s Trophy tie against West Ham’s U21s at Portman Road with Sam Morsy skippering on his debut and young centre-half Albie Armin handed his senior bow.

Tomas Holy is in goal with Kane Vincent-Young - the only player to have started Saturday’s 5-2 drubbing by Bolton Wanderers - at right-back and Matt Penney on the left.

Luke Woolfenden and Armin are the centre-halves with Morsy and Tom Carroll - making his first Town start - in the middle of midfield.

Idris El Mizouni makes his second start of the season on one flank with Louis Barry set for the other with James Norwood and Kayden Jackson starting in what looks like a front two.

Jon Nolan is among the subs for the first time this season, while youngsters Cameron Humphreys, Zanda Siziba and Elkan Baggott are also on the bench.

Town: Holy, Vincent-Young, Woolfenden, Armin, Penney, Morsy (c), Carroll, Jackson, El Mizouni, Barry, Norwood. Subs: Hladky, Baggott, Humphreys, Nolan, Siziba, Chaplin, Pigott.

West Ham U21: Hegyi, Okoflex, Alese (c), Ekwah, Ashby, Chesters, Laing, Longelo, Swyer, Appiah-Forson, Baptiste. Subs: Kinnear, Dju, Rosa, Diallo, Perkins, Forbes, Casey. Referee: Charles Breakspear (Surrey).

Don't see how making so many changes helps the team to gel.

Personally I would have started the same eleven from Saturday and told them to try harder!

Don't understand what Cook is up to!

Thought he was picking strong line up but hasn't so what will he learn whatever the outcome!! He must know how badly we've done in cup comps so why not use match to develop squad.

Very confusing given he said he would field a strong side and that we needed time to gel… It's quite contradictory…

That said, this is very much a Mickey Mouse tournament and would hate to see any injuries impact us. Either way, let's support the boys and stay positive. Focus on the league which is the priority and that is where we will judge Cookie…

Of course he made 10 changes; he hasn't got a clue what his best side is yet. Don't worry, we are only 5 weeks into the season, plenty of time to get 22 players to gel. FFS!

So what are we going to learn from team selection then? Answer is tap all.

Big Cook fan but just dont get the logic when we have centre backs who desperately need to play together, Saturday we will go in cold again and unless the guy has been given a guarantee until Xmas, saturday looks to me like a game he just has to win....

10 changes suggests to me he does not have a clue as to who his preferred starters are. Week in, week out we swap and change with the same (winless) result! It does little to convince me he knows how to take this club forward. Seriously concerned!

One word “Clueless” Why was Norwood not on the bench ahead of Jackson on Saturday?
Piggot not playing ahead of Jackson enough said!
