Cook: I Have Never, Ever Wanted to Disrespect Any Footballer
Friday, 24th Sep 2021 11:32

Town boss Paul Cook has responded to former Blues midfielder Teddy Bishop describing his summer Portman Road exit as “almost disrespectful”.

Bishop, 25, had been with the club since the U8s before joining the summer exodus, moving to Lincoln City for a fee understood to be £220,000.

“It was kind of expected but it was brutal at the same time — almost disrespectful,” the Cambridge-born schemer said ahead of last week’s game between the Blues and the Imps, which his old club won 1-0.

Cook said: “We had that difficult summer. I read an article in which Teddy Bishop said it felt a little bit disrespectful. I can guarantee you I have never, ever wanted to disrespect any footballer in my life.

“Football’s a tough, tough industry. I’d like to think through my career, I’ve made a lot more friends than I have enemies.

“It was just this summer I felt it was something we had to do. How easy is it to deliver bad news? Is there a nice way? I don’t think there is.”

Ha getting the sack is unpleasant I would say, but football is tough but well paid, and for somebody injured for 3 years to say he's been disrespected speaks of his ill discipline and professionalism and childishness get over it 99% of us would love to have had Teddys ability

Complete change was a must and impossible to do it without a bit of upset. Genuine good wishes go to all that it effects, from all all decent Ipswich Town supporters.

The way you took our club by the scruff of the neck and shook it into place was why I instantly became a Cooky fan and then when the Texans moved in with the management team I knew you were the man for the job, I am convinced that you will be here longer than any other manager and will enjoy your time in the Prem with us, onwards and upwards. And thank you Marcus for setting all of this up, I am in seventh heaven when I think of what I am eventually be able to watch. Cheers.

Lots of fans willed Teddy to realise his potential, doubt he could have had any more support. If he can honestly say he was a success or achieved his goals here, then maybe he can feel a bit aggrieved. So often was found wanting in games and whilst this new squad is still coming together, I think we've already seen more potential/better performances in these midfielders. I actually think Teddy has done well to be picked up by Appleton, he should focus on that.

Disrespectful says the player who, like many players at our club in the recent past, just didn't do enough.

TB has certainly got a point here ,and is in no way being either grumpy or disrespectful either .
Certainly a clear out and up was appropriate ,but PC ‘s behaviour was at the least very odd , peculiar and not at all the way to show respect for what was his team at the time .
To blatantly disregard his players leaving the field yet personally acknowledge each of the opposition was truly unbelievable behaviour ,endearing him to no one and amazing many.
A schism within did not need to be evidenced in this public manner ,and was inexplicable !
TB has at the least a reason to feel mildly aggrieved ( though we'd have loved him to develop his potential too !).
But COYB , the way is forward and with positive intent – let bygones be just that !

With all I've heard regarding Bishops attitude and arrogance I'd say the disrespect was shown in the other direction. From him toward us fans, past managers and owners that gave him the opportunity for a very good career.

Talented player but too rarely showed it. Hardly disrespectful, more like necessary.

I understand Teddy's upset but I'm not sure what expected.

Ted, you're not in my plans, if suitable offers come I'm we will be looking to sell you, we've let your agent know so he can start working on fixing you up with something. Thanks for your time and we wish you the best.

PC had to have 20 of those conversations.

Feels to me like some players who had been consistently under performing expected a leaving do, a magnum of champagne, a round of applause for relgation and 2 further years of utter inadequacy and smoke blown up their jacksy on the way out (not just Ted either seen this from at least one high profile other).

You didn't perform to the level required, you're being let go. That's football and with it come the risks and rewards

Well said Legoman

On Teddy, what a player - wish him all the best and hope he comes back one day fitter and stronger. But Cooky knew what needed to be done and the slate needed to be cleaned. Just the way it was, and Teddy, talented as he is, wasn't changing or winning games for us.

Hopefully one day he will as he can play at a higher level if he's fitter and stronger.

He was disrespectful and showed no interest in working with players and critsised them to the media. As for shaking our club into place???!!! We are near the bottom of the league on an appaling run and we're over the moon to scrape a 1 nil win over Lincoln

Lego. How long are town fans going to keep brown nosing Evans?! He nearly killed the club, made it a laughing stock and due to his epic, chronic failure the only way he was going to get a sale was to waive the debt!! Wake up ffs, you should be giving him 2 fingers for the last 13 years of shame he subjected us to, not brown nosing him!!

Surely the way for these players to prove Cook has made a mistake is to go and do it for their new clubs. I'm not seeing that happening, Downes, Dozzell and Bishop have hardly set the heather on fire with their scintillating form, so in this instance, I think Cook has probably called this one about right! Time will tell!

Unintentional.

Lets face facts. bishop never lived up to the hype. No goals ,no assists, one or two good passes a season does not make a good player. Good luck but until you harden up and become a man you will fail. good riddance.

Agree with Barry above, none of the players who departed over the summer are really making a name for themselves at other clubs but realise it's still early days.

A complete reset was required and thats what we got. Cook and Ashton did what they needed to do.

Some players will believe they were treated poorly and disrespectfully but it works both ways, when players choose to go themselves they don't always handle it well either.

Cookie must have see something in at least two players who if fit are playing regularly.
Namely Janoi Donacien and Toto Nsiala.
There must have been a spark of something about them. And boy is it paying off
