Former Owner Evans Linked With Move For Derby
Sunday, 10th Oct 2021 12:13

Former Town owner Marcus Evans is reportedly interested in taking over currently-in-administration Derby County.

According to The Sun on Sunday, Evans has “shown a firm interest” in the Rams, while Burton chief executive Jez Moxey is similarly said to be considering an approach.

Ex-Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is also claimed to be looking at a move for the Championship club.

Evans sold his 87.5 per cent stake in Town to Gamechanger 20 Ltd in April for around £40 million, although he retains a five per cent interest in the incoming group.

TWTD sources have previously indicated that having left Town after 14 years, Evans is keen to take on the ownership of another club.

It’s reported that Derby can be purchased and brought out of administration for £25 million.

Evans and his Town management team are understood to have enjoyed a close relationship with Rams owner Mel Morris.

He'll probably take Big Mick there from Cardiff if he bought the club too.

Can a person have a 5% stake in one club and then buy another club??

How can Evans and Ashley pass the fit-and-proper ownership test?

That will be a hell of a shock to their fans systems, after years of extraordinary spending.

PutneyBlue, If the Saudi regime manage to pass the laughable 'Fit and Proper' test, then surely anyone can.

To be fair to Evans he would, in my opinion, easily pass the fit and proper person's test. Unfortunately that test is not about whether the person is a good fit for a club and would make the right decisions, it is about financial probity and assurance of a person's financial affairs. After an initial investment which did not produce what he had hoped for, Evans just paid the bills and kept us afloat but as we all know that was never going to restore our fortunes so we were let down. The same could happen to Derby so for all sorts of reasons they should stay clear of the Evan's empire unless they are happy to have a team of loanees and average players.

God help them - no fan of Derby, but surely they've suffered enough already?!? Wouldn't wish on anybody and Evans should be banned from ever being involved in football again…………..!!!

Ashley would probably be an ideal owner for Derby in the Championship, it's if they get promotion that's where the issue would be. Unfortunately, ME would be the complete opposite hence look where we find ourselves!

Sounds about right, but a clubs debt for a fraction. Charge the full amount. Charge interest. Run the club into the ground.

Even I don't dislike Derby enough to wish that on them

Can't stand Derby, run Naaaarwich close at the top of my loathing list. Delighted therefore to see that our former lord and saviour may sprinkle his unique talents over the club and suffocate all remaining chances of survival. Doomed? Yeah, hope so

Some really over the top comments on here. Didn't he write off a debt owed to facilitate our takeover. Initially he offered good funding to managers who let him down. He wasn't a great owner but there are far worse and Derby just need to consolidate and keep afloat at the moment. He took us to the playoffs and we wanted a different style of play and he made a bad appointment in Hurst which sealed our relagation. He kept us afloat and lost fortunes during lock down and wasn't so long ago he paid around 500k for Vincent Young while in LG 1.some people need to have some balance and put it in perspective

Blimey Eddie do you think that's a balanced view. Just ask yourself why if he so out of pocket you think he would repeat the same mistake. If he liked losing money and liked football why did he sell up at Ipswich. A decent forward in the champ is what £30 mil ????

If it means he has to sell the 5% share in us he still holds I'm all for it!

The fact he still has any connection with ITFC after running us into the ground over the 14 years of his inept ownership was the only downside in the takeover for me.

Derby - all is lost! Go broke and start again, at least you'll be slowly rising back up rather than a slow and steady rotting process into nothingness 🤣

Boss man, yes I do think that is a balanced view, I've stated he was by no means perfect and got us relagated with a bad appointment of Hurst but also listed positives..... That is what a balanced view is not hysterical moaning saying he should not pass a fit and proper persons test and rip Derby like some on here

No Michael101, you're right, if ME bought Derby he would have to give up his stake in ITFC.

chortle!...you'd think Evans would have known better after losing nearly £70M at the 'helm' here.
