Town Place Norwood on Transfer List
Thursday, 11th Nov 2021 10:47

Town striker James Norwood has been transfer-listed ahead of the January transfer window.

The 31-year-old last featured for the Blues in early October and has been a conspicuous absentee from squads since then. In the league, he has made just two late sub appearances this season. His only 2021/22 goal came in the Papa John’s Trophy tie against West Ham’s U21s

Norwood has been training with the U23s for a number of weeks with the Town management having become increasingly frustrated by manner in which the striker has conducted himself off-field and in the last couple of days the decision has been made to make him available for transfer in January.

The frontman is currently appealing a drink-drive conviction, while his involvement on social media has often raised eyebrows since he was brought to the club on a free transfer in the summer of 2019 by former manager Paul Lambert.

He recently deleted his Twitter account but remains on Instagram and last month posted pictures from Playford Road while at U23s training.

Norwood has had a frustrating time at Portman Road with injuries hampering him in both his full seasons with the club.

In 2019/20 the former Forest Green Rovers man netted 11 times and last season 10, top scoring for the club on each occasion but in disappointing seasons overall.

Norwood, whose Town deal is up at the end of the season, is likely to interest former club Tranmere, where the manager from his previous spell at Prenton Park, Micky Mellon, is back in charge, along with a number of League One sides.

No real surprise. I wish him well.

Pity. He could have been a useful member of the squad and provided a bit of bite up front. But through a combination of injuries (not his fault) and generally unacceptable behaviour, he managed to screw things up.

No Surprise really is it. I like Norwood as a player, but he's personal life with the 2nd Time of being done for D. D hasn't done him any favours.

I also wish him well.

Good! Should've terminated his contract the minute he got his SECOND conviction for drink driving.

Good riddance really. He's a natural goalscorer who could be a huge asset to us but it's pretty clear he's not serious about his career which is a shame. I'm sure he'll go back to being a good big fish in a little pond at Tranmere where he can get away with being an arse without any repercussions for his behaviour.

No surprise and I wish him well although he is his own worst enemy.

He had a great chance here and blew it big style.

Best solution all round.

Really not bothered by this get all the bad eggs out of the club another one given a chance by Cook but a remnant of a sh!te time with the previous hierarchy. Should've probably gone straight after a second drink driving conviction.

Some nutty comments from the nutty comment brigade... he is ipswich of last season and cook hates them all! Norwood has been injured a lot which is not his fault, he has been an idiot off field for sure but can't we just wish him luck for the future.

good luck to him, but selfishly hope that we don't sell him to a top half league one team; he may yet do well at the right club...

Rate him as a player, although his finishing often leaves a little to be desired. Probably one of the top earners at the club, so if he isn't going to feature then he has to move on.

Good lucks Nors you drunken hooligan!

Look, yes, he hasn't helped himself with some of the things he's done off the pitch. But has anyone considered how hard things have been for him since his move here. His gf left him soon after he arrived, now mullens has moved from Cambridge hehe'left living alone. And on top of that, he's been injured for much of his time here. Have any of those fans slagging him off even considered how that may have affected him? No, of course not. Just happy to have some1to slag off. Of course I'm not condoning some of the things he's done but do have some consideration of his position. And I wish him well for the future. Hopefully can get his career back on track. But certainly hope he doesn't go to a rival as he'd be bound to come back and bite us.

Can't lie and have to say am gutted, but do get it. But this surely means our new transfer team must have sorted some kind of agreement in place for Bonne in January.....Now that would sweten the pill!

Best for all concerned I think, he is well down the pecking order these days anyway, not always fit and cant act in a professional manner off the park. No great loss.

Met him a couple of months back, nice fella, but its obvious watching him on the pitch he isn't able to manage his frustrations, and is always going to be behind Bonne and Pigott in the pecking order, and thats never going to be good for this sort of player.

Have said for a while that he and Jackson would both be terminated end January if no-one comes in for them, they can then move on as free agents, but im guessing if push comes to shove both would be allowed to leave on frees. Doing this creates a bit of headroom in the salary position too which has to be healthy as we look to strengthen.

Would imagine there will be investment again in January if we are position for the push for the top, cant imagine GC want to spend any more time in this division that they have to.

Good luck to you Nors wherever you end up, shame is hasnt worked out for you here fella.

Sad really. I like James but this club is not for him. Time to move on and recruit someone else.

If you turned up for work not fit you'd be sacked

I think we will probably cut our losses on Jackson and Norwood and as been mentioned above will free a big wedge from the salary bill.

I can see him going to somewhere like Portsmouth and doing the business, but hey, I don't think he is as bad a boy as some would make out but his injury situation hasn't been good for this club, I will wish both players all the best for the future and a shame they couldn't make their talents work more effectively during their time here.

I can see us making a move for Bonne on a permanent and perhaps identify another up and coming striker to add to the squad. Having said that Tyreece Simpson has the number 9 shirt at Swindon and by all accounts with a handful of goals is generally impressing there, so that's got to be good news.

I was pleased with his signing and always felt he had goals in him....which he did.....but injuries and off the field issues have played their part in his transfer listing.

All the best. Wouldnt be surprised if he returns to Tranmere.

FrankMarshall added 11:56 - Nov 11
He would have gone for free in the Summer so a sensible move by the club. Ideally a permanent signing if possible.

Only scenario where I could see him staying was if Bonne went back to QPR.

Would Norwood (or Jackson) ever get a look in with the current squad? No chance, neither are good enough, so ship them out. With wage constraints we can't afford to have hangers on cluttering up the place.

I think He's only himself to blame for how his career at Town has gone. In years to come He will look back on this opportunity with regret, I feel sure. So often players with skills on the pitch don't follow it up with the professionalism required off it.

So, good luck to him in his next venture, but Town are bigger than any player and this Club are fast moving on . So best for all parties I think .

Priceless assessment of a striker.

Shame. One of the best strikers in the league. His goal scoring record vs games played is outstanding. Always gives 110%. Has a nasty side we have lacked for many years.

pennblue added 12:17 - Nov 11
All I can say is thank you for your efforts on the pitch and your goals. You always put in 100% effort, unlike a lot of other players did last season.

Hopefully, you can get yourself properly fit and have a good couple of seasons somewhere else, just don't score against us!
