Warburton: If It’s the Right Thing to Recall Macauley Then We Will
Tuesday, 23rd Nov 2021 19:53

QPR boss Mark Warburton has responded to on-loan striker Macauley Bonne’s weekend comments in which he stated firmly that he doesn’t want to be recalled by the West Londoners in January.

Bonne, 26, has thoroughly enjoyed his loan spell with the Blues, his hometown club, who he supported as a boy, and made no secret of his desire to remain at Portman Road However, Warburton says the situation isn’t entirely down to what he wants.

“Macauley is our player,” he told West London Sport. “It’s as simple as that. He’s gone out on loan to play games and get experience.

“Right now we’ve had some injuries to our strikers. If it’s the right thing to call Macauley back then absolutely we will do. If it’s not the right time then we won’t.

“We don’t want to unsettle a player on loan, but QPR pay his wages and he’s contracted to QPR, so we’ll do what’s right for QPR — and of course what’s right for Macauley as a player.

“If the loan is working well and we don’t need to bring him back then we won’t bring him back.

“However, on Friday night we only had one striker available. If the situation is such then we’ll act in the best interests of QPR.

“Overall, it’s about the club and our team and doing what’s right for QPR. So we’ll see what the situation is as we get towards January.”

I always knew he wouldn't stay with us as soon as he started banging in the goals, but I hope I'm wrong

So his currently *not* banging in the goals is actually a good thing then Vancouver ... ;)

Always knew there was a silver lining to that somewhere!

Unfortunately this isn't a surprise. We're not in charge and neither is the player - if they want or need him back they'll recall him. Presumably we'll need the moneybags out to change the situation

Fair to be honest from qpr,we would feel the same if 1 of our loan players where doing the bizz.qpr are paying his wages 2.

We if they sell him to us for a couple of million, they could buy a player who wants to be there, rather than have Bonne sitting on the bench in a sulk!

Correct @herfie. I was surprised Bonne made those comments and think they were very naive. What employer, in any walk of life, wants their employees telling them what to do in public.
Sure it brings a warm fuzzy feeling to town fans to hear him speak so passionately about the club, but this was ill judged.

To be fair he's gone off the boil and QPR won't play him anyway, he's their player what do we expect then to say, “drop back when you feel like it”? warburton is simply stating the obvious, it's their call. At the moment we have bigger problems

Bonne's comments will actually make it more likely he'll stay so I don't think he was naive. Nobody wants a player on their team who doesn't want to be there. It will certainly not make it more likely that he'll be recalled.

I know it's not necessarily the same people saying it but there are complaints when managers are guarded and professional and don't blame individual players and there are complaints when players speak passionately and guilelessly and say what they feel.

I'm happy with passionate players and bland press conferences. I think it's the right way. :)

Silly boy making those comments Warburton holds all the cards and if he is bloody minded will recall him just to sit on the bench to teach him a lesson.

Nothing Warburton said is unreasonable…. He's manager of QPR, Bonne is a QPR player. We have zero right to kick off about what the players club decide to do. Warburton isn't paid to get us promoted.
