Norwood on Target as U23s Win at Watford
Tuesday, 30th Nov 2021 14:56

Striker James Norwood started and scored for the U23s as they beat Watford 4-1 at London Colney this afternoon.

Norwood was the only senior player involved with Myles Kenlock not included, suggesting the left-back may well be in the squad for tomorrow’s Papa John’s Trophy tie at home to Arsenal’s U21s.

Young defenders Albie Armin and Elkan Baggott, and striker Tete Yengi also weren’t among those to make the trip, perhaps indicating that they may also be in tomorrow’s 18.

However, Cameron Humphreys and Zanda Siziba, who have previously appeared in the Papa John’s Trophy this season, both started this afternoon’s game against the Hornets.

Tawanda Chirewa put the side coached by Kieron Dyer and Bryan Klug in front in the 11th minute before Ryan Cassidy levelled for the home side a minute later.

Norwood, who has been training with the U23s for some weeks and is set to be made available when the transfer window opens, restored the Town lead in first-half injury time before a Derek Agyakwa own goal on the hour made it 3-1 to the Blues.

Humphreys added Town’s fourth in the 76th minute to seal the win for the young Blues, who move up to third in Professional Development League Two South.

U23s: Bort, Agbaje, Stewart, Smith, Humphreys, Alexander, Healy, Chirewa, Ward (Crane 80), Siziba (Morris 70), Norwood (Bello 83). Unused: White, Bradshaw.

What a waste. Now is the time to change up our striking options, and we have our top-scoring striker of the past two seasons playing with the kids because he upset people on social media... this club.

We miss Norwood's goal threat and physical aggression in our 1st team at the moment.

BonneNIL.... Not just that. The drink driving showed utter contempt and lack of respect to common sense, the law, and the club.If he grows up and starts to show dedication to his job instead of behaving like a moron id happily see him back in the squad. Fell into the trap of trying to become a bigger name off the pitch than on it. Needs to start from scratch again and be a little bit more professional in his attitude.

Yep! A re-assessment of his own value and values would be much to his and everyone else's advantage . It's a serious question of whether he's got it in him ,or whether now ,together with questionable fitness , he's truly burnt his boats at ITFC .
More options and styles/ attributes up front would be useful ; though like others I'm not sure PC is really the man manager and driving force we'd expected .

I think you will all find that Norwood's transfer listing is a lifestyle thing related to diet and drinking. He undoubtedly has ability but given an opportunity many would love he decides not to buy into the clubs new ethos and behave like he's Gascoigne. Personally I think it's a great pity as I think he could be our top striker if only he stopped being so daft. Looks like the club have given him plenty of opportunity to change but his lifestyle adds to his injuries too. He needs to show a little more respect for the club and most of all himself.

Think we will sign at least one more striker in the window but quite honestly who would want Norwood???

Like others before him in the game he just can't be bothered to apply himself as long as he's got enough in his pocket for a few beers he will be happy, what a waste as he when on song has proved to be a goal scoring machine.

Couldn't have put it better myself chepstow blue. Unfortunately there's people on here who think he's some sort of hero. Could give him some sort of leeway if he was twenty one but not thirty one will he ever grow up i doubt it.

A real shame IMO.
Yes, his drink driving wasn't good and his social media interactions haven't done him any favours but he is a quality striker!
People questioning his diet are off the mark, he got himself to great shape in the summer - unfortunately for him and us , his hamstring put all the good work to waste!
I'd love to see him back in the matchday squad.
His goal to minute ratio is superb and at the very least he'd be a great asset to bring off the bench!
Watch him go and get 10+ goals for someone in the 2nd half of the season!

Hope this isn't just a keep for scenario to entice a move, I hope he has had time to think about his actions and willing to fight for his well-being and ultimately place back in the match day squad but unfortunately I fear the latter be the case, either way keep at it Nors 💪🏼

Should be on the bench at least. Wonder who will be gone first, Norwood or Cook?

Norwood has done far more to be ostracised than Kenlock. When you get caught the second time it's just the second time you got caught, not the second time you did it. D drivers are scum.

Monkeyblue emnever thought I'd agree with you but you're 💯 right.
On another note there were meant moaning about norwoods finishing last season when playing now he's the messiah to some. I think league one is his maximum level for me and unsure on that. His social media shows his contempt for the club and people within the club for the most part so I won't be gutted when he goes. Shame as he has maybe some wasted talent there but contempt for the law and the club he can do one for me now.

BeattiesBackPocket…. I've been of the opinion for a long while that Norwood is a big time Charlie but misses far too many chances to justify his cockiness. His goals per minutes stats disguise the number of sitters he misses. He's a league one striker who acts like he's some kind of superstar.

Algarvefan …. ‘who would want him' ? - you'd see plenty of Club's will for little, or nowt !!
Many Clubs have the odd ‘loose cannon' on their books, and they tend to be the most valued in terms of abilty !!
Whatever, Norwood is still the Best and most potent Striker at Portman Road, with ability, aggression, and work rate.
Not at all unusual to see that from a loose cannon, I've seen it MANY times in Football at all levels, and had them play for me.

As others have said previously this is a terrible waste

I actually like him showing some personality on SM there's absolutely nothing wrong with it too many robots in football these days. In terms of ability he could play for a team at the top of League 1 or even bottom end of the championship. It's obvious he won't play again this season so even a loan deal that covers his wages would be a start. If we played a classic 4-4-2 I honestly think he'd complement Bonne / Piggott / Jackson very well COYB

Henz10 I don't disagree as Bullard was a huge joker but the difference is when you take to social media to disrespect the club and manger that's a different thing and the guy has yet another drink driving charge first one can be a mistake second just shows he constantly does it with no respect that he could drink and drive and kill someone's kid so for me the guys a moron

Blueboy1981 I guess we'll see all these championship clubs come in for him if he's has good as you say?? He misses a lot of chances too many for championship level
