Swindon Linked With Blues Loanee Barry
Wednesday, 22nd Dec 2021 13:39

Swindon Town have reportedly shown interest in Blues loanee Louie Barry, who looks set to return to parent club Aston Villa in January.

Barry, 18, has made only four starts, just one in the league, and two sub appearances for Town having signed on loan in August.

The former West Brom and Barcelona youngster’s last appearance for the Blues came in the Papa John’s Trophy tie against Colchester in early November with his previous action a month prior to that in the same competition at Gillingham.

Now, according to The Athletic, Swindon have shown interest in the England U18 international with his Town departure and then a move to either League Two or the National League appearing on the cards in January.

If joins the Robins, Barry will join Blues striker Tyreece Simpson at the County Ground, the 19-year-old having scored nine times during his loan spell up to now.

Would really love to see McKenna use Barry against either Gillingham or Wycombe. Given McKenna's success with youth players - this could be a good idea to consider.

I must say I was excited when we signed Barry on loan, but he's not lived upto anywhere near the hype and came with him?

As look VERY ordinary every time he's played, maybe our ex manager or playing style didn't suit him?

Blimey!...he's going down the ranks, rapidly!

Unfortunately, his time with us won't be considered as his most positive development experience. He never really got a chance to prove himself, but maybe he didn't deserve it. A victim, perhaps, of our having brought in too many players all at once.

He's been back at Villa for a while now, just nothing was announced.

He joined us at THE worst possible time for his personal career development.

Our Club is under transition and we all know what's happened Ian the last few months.

The large amount of senior players coming in, meant that he was suddenly up against the likes of Edwards, Celina, Fraser etc for that first team shirt. A tough ask for a kid.

He'll be better off at another club and Swindon sounds ideal to me .

Barry could be a real asset now that we have a technical manager. We could see him flourish given the opportunity as he's a massive upgrade on Chaplin.

Doesn't feel like he's been given much of a chance here.

Players don't just walk into the team on reputation alone they have to earn the chance. I think its another case of a big time Charlie coming from a big club thinking he's already made it in the big time. He needs to realise a footballers career is very short and needs to buckle down and grab his chance with both hands. We don't know what goes on behind the scenes and what ive seen of him he hasn't done enough to warrant a place in the first team. Fans sometimes get this image of a player being some sort of world beater after reading the reports in the media. Im sure the lad has got ability but you also have to work hard to make it happen.

Just a bit-part player in a bloated squad of attacking options where we only played one striker. Wonder where it all went wrong...? :D didn't seem to take his chances and the fact Swindon are sniffing around would likely suggest there was some consensus that League One might have been a bit much, too soon.

We have good links with Swindon. It's not unlikely that there is a bit of cooperation going on here regarding what next for Barry.
