Nsiala Set For Permanent Move to Fleetwood
Thursday, 13th Jan 2022 09:22

TWTD understands that central defender Toto Nsiala is closing in on making his Portman Road exit to Fleetwood but on a permanent basis rather than on loan.

Last night it was reported that Fleetwood were looking to sign the 29-year-old on loan, however, we understand the clubs are in discussions regarding a permanent switch which looks set to be completed before the weekend. It's believed the move will be a free transfer.

Nsiala is out of contract with the Blues in the summer, Town having taken up a one-year option on his previous deal in May, and his impending departure comes as no surprise.

The DR Congo international was signed in the summer of 2018 by Paul Hurst from his former club Shrewsbury.

Nsiala, who spent a spell on loan at Bolton in the second half of 2019/20, has made 71 starts and six sub appearances for Town, scoring once.

The exit of a senior player will assist the Blues as they look to make loan pair Christian Walton and Macauley Bonne permanent signings.

Town were understood to be close to their FFP limits following their summer business and the departure of Nsiala - and probably one or two other fringe players - will free up some room as they look to do those deals with Brighton and QPR. Discussions on both fronts are ongoing.

When switched on he is a good defender, good enough for League one. Makes mistakes, but so does most defenders at times. Certainly improved with time here, looking more and more assured. Could still be a good move for the club, more room for incoming players. Walton on a perm must be top priority!

Give me a decent defender over a nice guy every day of the week!

Best of luck Toto. There is a really good centre back in there somewhere. Because of our history, I think our expectations are higher and we are less forgiving than a Shrewsbury or a Fleetwood. Passing out from the back was never his forte and he was a penalty waiting to happen but his positional sense and his long balls into the inside-right channel got us on the front foot.

Wish him luck but have to admit he isn't good enough at this level and don't think he has the ability to improve that much. His distribution always poor and a half decent forward could always turn him with ease and leave him hence his last ditch fouls that he committed fairly often. Even with edmundson next to him he looked a weak link I imagine our forwards will look forward to playing against him

Very glad to hear this. Irrelevant of anything else, you can not behave the way he did after the Charlton match and get away with it. His days were numbered from that night.

All the best Toto. But perhaps in future, act more professionally.

Nsiala always wears his heart on his sleeve and nobody can question his commitment and defensive tenacity. Unfortunately he is not capable of playing in the current system adopted by MCK. This move will be good for his career. Good luck Toto . He's a great character.

Likeable bloke, he always gave 100%. I wish him well.

Yes agree with the commitment side but feel he's a bit limited as a defender and often decision making is a bit doubtful. If a permanent move is on the cards wish him all the best!

If he was world class he wouldn't of been ours in the first place so I don't know where some of the animosity towards him comes from? a few too many errors here and there but overall solid enough. Good luck toto

Liked him as a guy, his reaction at Charlton was fair enough and I would have expected any Ipswich player with backbone to do the same. The fan who ran on the pitch and for some reason DECIDED TO PUSH WALTON THE PEACEMAKER needs his head looking at.

As a player, not particularly sad to see him go. One very good game out of ten. Always a mistake lurking.

I wish him well. No problem generally with his effort and commitment and athleticly strong but looks very uncomfortable with the ball and can't play it out from the back which is why this is the right decision.

Old fashioned body on the line defender, but without the technical ability required in football today it will only get you so far. Thank You Toto for your service, best of luck with the Cod Army

Paul cook called him one of the defenders in the league
Not for me
Looked OK at Derby away when I first saw him but this was too high a level for him
Better this season but he's not a ball player and has no chance of being part of the ambitious future for the club
Good Luck

Bit short on cover at the back without Toto, playing 3 CBs?
Burgess and the kids...
I'd assume we'd be looking for at lead another CB on loan, if not permo.

If it's a budget decision to get him the books to sign up Walts or Bonne (or both) then this makes the world of sense. Nice guy, hard working player, unfortunately only recently looked like he was fitting in. Edmundsen should be the standard for our defenders, Toto isn't up to that.

Echo earlier comments in wishing him all the best! Timing is good for us as we will get a fee.

I thought Toto was ok in a 4 at the back at this level.
Agricultural but more dependable than the "mistake-prone" reputation - our PPG with him in the side is actually above the average.
That said, if KM wants to play 3 ball playing, stepping out CB's then he's definitely not right for that. No brainer to get rid with his contract nearly up.

If you'd told me a few months ago that this article or the comments would be about Nsiala and not Woolfenden I'd have been very surprised. Good luck Toto, your heart and commitment were never in question, nor your desire to throw your body on the line. Limited yes, but very brave. Forget about the cretins at Charlton. I hope Woolfenden is now prepared to seriously up his levels of consistency, as up until 2 or 3 games ago he was also a liability who I'd have offloaded in an instant.

I'll miss Toto. Comes across a nice guy. Technically not the best, but very strong.

Signed by Hurst & rated by Cook as one of the best defenders in the division. Says it all .
When he played I was always worried a penalty was coming. So not worried to see him leave

Good move for the club and enables some progress towards sealing a deal for Walton.

Only kenlock, Jackson , and Nolan to go then.

I hope this move goes ahead and it works out for Toto. He seems a genuinely nice guy who unfortunately hasn't got all the qualities that McKenna islooking for from his players.

We also need to sell a few players in order to buy that quality we need.

Never been good enough a walking liability in my opinion, should never have been anywhere near the first team, nice enough guy though good luck to him

I lovely bloke according to the comments on here from those people that know him well, poor distribution and liked to give away a penalty, it's good for town that he's moving on. I hope he remains a lovely bloke.
