Town Confirm Bonne to Stay For Season
Friday, 14th Jan 2022 22:34

Town have confirmed that striker Macauley Bonne will be staying at Portman Road for the duration of his season-long loan from QPR.

Bonne is the Blues’ top scorer on 12 goals having joined his hometown club in the summer.

There had been speculation that Rangers might recall him with that facility open to them, however, following discussions between the clubs, the Blues have confirmed that he will remain in Suffolk for the rest of 2021/22.

“I’m happy to have secured the second half of the season at this place," Bonne told iFollow Ipswich.

“There was a lot of speculation about what was going on with me coming into January. I won’t lie to you, it did affect me a bit, not just goals-wise but off the pitch as well.

“It’s been hard work. It’s not been easy keeping me here. It’s a big thank-you to everyone who has helped me out so far.

“I’ve come here to start and finish something. I’m not going to jump ship halfway through a season, that’s not in my nature. There’s only one aim now, and that is promotion. I couldn’t have seen myself playing football anywhere else this season bar Ipswich Town.”

Boss Kieran McKenna added: "Macauley has been a vital player for the club throughout the season. He is someone that has a lot to offer to the team on and off the pitch, so I am delighted that he will be staying with us for the rest of the campaign.

“We can continue to focus on the important games coming up, starting with Bolton tomorrow.”

This is fantastic news. Well done Ashton and thanks to QPR for seeing sense.

Now let's secure Walton and bring in one or two quality signings or loans and we are in great shape to gatecrash the playoffs.

This hasn't just made me twitch, I've got a complete BONNE on over this!!

I now think a permanent deal is on the table but the price for MB will depend on how many goals he ends the season with, which if I'm being honest you can't blame QPR for that, so basically we have first refusal on him!!

Hopefully knowing this will settle him down and will start finding the onion bag on a regular basis!

refereeing to interview video. Get it that it's tricky, but questions are always the blooming same. Ask players something different to mix it up a bit

Despite his impressive goal tally in the first part of the season, he is not the clinical finisher that you would bet your house on every time type, & maybe is more in the 'scorer of great goals' than the 'great goalscorer' category, as he does have some belters in there. However, his hold up & link play, as well as his attitude, work rate, strength & intelligence make him an excellent centre forward at this level and hopefully beyond.
I like him playing off Norwood & finding the runners pushing forward; his assists will be just as valuable as his goals over the next few months.
This confirmation is great news and adds to the positive atmosphere around the club at the moment, hopefully he'll celebrate it in style against Bolton.

This is great news and by what he's saying he seems desperate to play for us, well done MC great to see players with his type of attitude as he's dropping a division, let's have a couple from you later to celebrate COYB

Good news. Still possible player of the season at this point (alongside Walton and Aluke). Unless of course Norwood scores every game from now until the end of the season!

Great news but several times in this article Bonne references ‘this season'. I'm a little nervous he might see himself elsewhere next year. Hopefully he'll stay with us and we'll be in the Championship!!

Whilst it's a little disappointing for the fans that we haven't tied Bonne down to a permanent contract, I think this works best for us for now regarding the balancing of fair play rules. Bonne can feel settled for the rest of the season and concentrate on what's going on on the pitch rather than off it.
Here's hoping that he will refind the goal-scoring form of the beginning of the season!
He's still very much on for 20 goals this season.

What is happening about Norwood? The last I heard his contract was up at the end of the season and he was on the transfer list.

His style of play reminds me of Mariner. Players around Mariner scored a lot of goals, especially Warky, because of how Mariner played. Whether Bonne gets 20 or not, others around him will benefit from his play and goals will come from them too. I'd rather have that than rely on one main goal scorer.

Think this is more important than Walton staying. Nothing against Walton staying of course but I think we'd find it easier to find a equal replacement for Walton than for Bonne.

Think he still has more than a year left on his contract so signing him on permanent would have been expensive. If we were to get promoted then we might see town push the boat out to get him. Think wages at the minute would stop a permanent deal so makes sense. Someone mentioned Norwood Town have a 12 month option on hid contract if they want him to stay beyond this season.

LenBrennen don't think there's many clinical finishers at this level. Norwood has been clinical this season but overall his conversation rate is about one in three or four people have short memories.

Absolutely brilliant news, not just a good player but someone whos heart is in the club! Now can we get Walton signed on a permanent too and Bonne signed up in the summer. I love my club!!
