Blues Among Clubs Linked With Preston Defender
Monday, 17th Jan 2022 14:33

Town are reported to be among a number of clubs showing interest in Preston North End central defender Jordan Storey.

According to the Lancashire Post, Sheffield Wednesday have made an approach regarding the 24-year-old, while Town and Sunderland have also made enquiries.

However, no one has yet been prepared to offer to pay a proportion of Storey’s wages which is acceptable to the Championship club.

Having been a regular for most of 2021, Storey has dropped out of favour over the last few months and has been on the bench for only one of new manager Ryan Lowe’s four matches in charge.

Yeovil-born Storey came through the youth ranks at Exeter City during which time he spent spells on loan at Bideford, Tiverton and Dorchester before joining Preston on a four-year deal. The 6ft 2in tall centre-half signed a new deal which runs to the summer of 2025 in September.

Following Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at Bolton, manager Kieran McKenna was asked whether the Blues planned to sign anyone to replace Toto Nsiala, who joined Fleetwood last week.

“It’s one number that we’ve lost from that position,” the Blues boss considered. “We still have four in our current set-up.

“Janoi [Donacien] has been playing as a right centre-back, we have George [Edmundson], Luke [Woolfenden] and Cameron Burgess as well, so we’re not short of numbers as such.

“But it’s a position in terms of profile and qualities there might be something we look to add in the next couple of weeks possibly.”

I think we need cover, would like to see a youngster given a go but only if good enough.
Left or right Footed ?
Hopefully better than the last one on loan from Preston- was he called Joh Earl ?

This would be a good signing, we have a lack of height in the squad, and would be nice to start winning more balls in the air .

Josh Earl plays (I think ) quite regularly for PNE now … so maybe he's keeping this player out of the side ?

Assuming we accept our squad is bloated enough, we do have enough mature, experienced defenders in the Club, so I find it sad that we do not have at least 1 youth player we can drag from the U23s for the bench. Appreciate Ndaba is on loan at Salford and has been injured (but was doing well), but what about Baggott ?

the last one we had on loan from preston was josh harrop; who may have been lambert's worst signing (stiff competition!)

Question is: Can he score from corners/set pieces?

Woolfy and Burgess are both 6'4", Edmundson 6'3". We don't lack height in central defence. More important is, is he any good, does he fit KMc;s style and is the Lancashire Post a reliable source?

Not sure why we would bring in a loan, unless he's going to play regularly. We still have enough loans in the squad.

The view in Preston is he's a bit lightweight.

I'd LOVE to Baggott get a chance.

We need a CB that can really read the game , and have more in his locker than just hoofing it. Good CB's ( especially in teams playing higher up the league - our goal) need qualities , such as pace, mobility on and off the ball, an array of passing , and dribbling skills . That's a CB with a different
“ profile” to those we currently have , but qualities I'm sure McK is after, whether we ( or that player is league one or not).

I don't think Town will be limiting their horizons any longer …. Signing Walton is just the start I feel !

Never seen the guy play but reading how he cannot get in the team since Ryan Lowe took over who uses a similar system to McKenna just thinking if he would fit in here now.

So why do we need to loan a player who Preston clearly don't need. I agree Penny not up to the standard required but what is wrong with Vincent Young. Was impressed with Coulson but looks like a sickness. No use sitting in the treatment room

What we really really need is a competent keeper and Walton is not the man.

Would rather see one of our U23s be given a chance in the first team instead of bringing in any mediocre loan players. If we are serious about our academy, then we cant keep overlooking them.

This is the type of loan signing that Lambert used to make; not wanted by a Championship side, no-one wants to pay his full wages, but signed by us to make up the numbers
