Accrington Chairman Holt Issues Apology
Wednesday, 26th Jan 2022 02:38

Accrington Stanley chairman Andy Holt has issued an apology for Saturday’s post-match comments regarding Town skipper Sam Morsy.

Holt tweeted “He’s a shit house is Morsy” following the match referring to the Egyptian international’s clash with Stanley midfielder Ethan Hamilton which led to the FA handing the 30-year-old a four-match ban, starting with Tuesday evening's 2-0 win at AFC Wimbledon.

In a statement issued via Accrington’s official website Holt, who after continuing exchanges of views with fans announced later on Saturday evening that he was leaving Twitter, apologised for the comment: “On Saturday, I lost my patience and made a derogatory remark about an opposition player on my Twitter account.

“I am not for one minute defending what he did. I am however apologising for any offence I may have caused him, his club or others by my public remarks.

“As a chairman of a football club (that I don’t want to be), I am allowed to have opinions, but I accept I should not voice them as I did.

“In the end though, I am what I am, no excuses. These situations have come with the territory with me all my life.

“I didn’t want to own a football club and I am used to saying things as I see them. I do not claim to be always right but at the time of making statements I always think I’m right.

“I hope I don’t do it again but cannot make any promises. That’s how I roll.”

some are being offended very easily, which is concerning. Think you need to take a look at yourselves, not worth it!

He'll be sorry when Morsey gives him a solid right hook!
Let's see how he rolls ... on the floor!

It's interesting to read all the faux outrage on here, aimed at Holt, when it was in fact our own player who, by punching an opponent in the face, mark him out distinctly as the only villain of the piece.

The intention behind these remarks is clearly not to make a sincere apology but to ward of getting into and further trouble.

I wonder what the reaction on here would be if a unlikeable opposition player punched on of ours in an off the ball incident. Somewhat different, I imagine.

Churchman's crate. He didn't throw a punch ! AS did the classic “ Platoon” dive. A Complete cheat.

Read McKenna's comments . He was stood directly in front of thf incident , 2 yards away .

Coming up against odious characters like this is one of the penalties you suffer for playing in League !.Take heart that we have the potential to get out of League 1, Andy Holt doesn't.

You can't make a silk purse out of a pigs ear.
An uneducated bloke who made a bit of money and now thinks he is something and people should respect him.

If you are going to apologise do it and mean it.

Go and tell your bunch of angels that you don't want to be chairman of this S@@t club who are never going anywhere

I'm being lazy here and haven't researched the full story, but; 'I don't want to own a football club'??? Who is this guy? WTF?? Is it 'don't want to own it' like when you inherit your Grans parrot after she dies? If you're not interested in owning a club (so why you do is beyond me), probably best you don't voice your opinions on something you ultimately have no interest in, the results of which have led to a 'mountain out of a molehill' scenario. As I say, not researched who/what this bloke is, but first impressions is he's a complete weapon!

Remember the milk advert? “Accrington who” nasty team of cheats and an owner to match!

Apology not accepted! Anyone thinking that's a punch is as off the mark as anyone who thinks abusive language is ok on social media!

He would not have gone down if there was an advantage in him staying on his feet, cheats. As Arnie said KM was right on top of the incident.

Holt knew exactly what he was doing. This is disingenuous to say the least.

I used to like Accrington but their shenanigans have made me revise my opinion of the club.

In one breath fans castigate footballing executives/owners as being stale, boring and full of corporate-jargon, yet in the next are criticized as ''bringing the game into disrepute'' when they speak from the heart like every fan does. Holt didn't say anything egregious and there was no need for an apology at all.
